Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Alty TV GoPro cam - 1st Goal Vs Grimsby
« on: August 19, 2015, 08:40:52 AM »
Whether it crossed or didn't, it was a brave decision to give it by the officials. After the penalty that wasn't last week, I think the phrase 'evens itself out over the season' springs to mind  ::)

Since the midwinter purple patch ended with the win over Aldershot on Feb 7th, the team's record stands thus:

Played 17
Won 3
Drawn 3
Lost 11

Goals scored 14 (!)
Goals conceded 28

Remember that for a large part of this period we lost Densmore, which certainly contributed to the end of season downfall.

After the first 3 games last season, we had conceded 6 goals. 3 games in this season, we have conceded 4 goals. The concern without question is we need to put our chances away. If Reeves puts away those 2 early chances against FGR and Guiseley, we could had been looking at 6 points rather than 0. As LS says in his NLP interview, we need one to go off someones backside to get going.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Admittedly I've only been to Abbey Hey so far,but he was probably our best player then. Also have to remember that he probably didnt have a proper pre-season last year, and we've seen glimpses of what he is capable of (ie at Bristol when he put a great cross in for Reeves who scored but ruled offside). We need to see that more often, and I hope we do.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: New Keeper signed
« on: May 06, 2015, 10:44:17 PM »
With respect, Ian can't do anything BUT publicly support the keeper the club has just signed.

I'm happy to be proved wrong, but I don't see how anyone can interpret the signing of a 30 year old keeper, untried at this level in 4 years, as anything but a confirmation of the goalkeeping status quo.

The stat about clean sheets is a red herring. It's 28 clean sheets against strikers playing in THREE leagues below this level.  Tim Deasy won't have come across strikers of Conference Premier standard for some years.

You can spin it all you like folks, but if Tim usurps Stuart next season I'll eat my metaphorical hat.

Think the point Ian is trying to get across is 28 clean sheets at any level isnt bad going. And 30 for a keeper is hardly his best years behind him.

Its not a bad signing, although may not be a long term solution to replacing Stu I think will provide decent cover.

Chris Denham was another one of them players who, like Kyle and Broadie, you hated him being in the opposition team. I was happy when Denham and Perry played in a red and white shirt, and same would apply to Broadie if he came in.

Disappointed with Williams and Cav going, but not surprised by it.Did hear that Parton might be relocating back to Newcastle under Lyne. LS likes a squad of 18 senior players plus youth,so expect 6 in. Interesting few weeks ahead.

For someone who is a regular, my record of games missed this season is;

Lincoln (H) Lost
Braintree (H) Won
Foreest Green (A) Drew
Torquay (H) Won
Welling (A) Won
Dartford (A) Won

So it might be worth me missing more next season  ;) :D

« on: April 10, 2015, 12:09:36 PM »
I think in any ordinary season Griffin would win hands down. However, given the occasion, it being last minute and it being a spectacular, Lawrie has to win.

3rd for me would be Clee vs Halifax (I love a goal where the ball ripples all the way across the net when it goes in) or Richman, as the build up to the goal was just as good as the finish.

Point 4 in my original post Jimmy, how about a draw in the cup or a Watmore sell-on. Look at what happened to Burton?

If it can happen to the likes of Burton, Kiddy and Macc, why can't it happen to us? The club are on the up and providing they do not get to big too quick, there is no reason why this should not happen. I believe we have the infrastructure of the team, the management and the board to do this longer term. All we need is to believe this can happen. I happen to think it could, not necessarily next season but perhaps in 2-3 years time.

Also, where are the all the critics now????
I was a critic but I think he has done a decent job he has still made mistakes going back to 4 4 2 keeping perrybringing in Gillespie but a promotion followed by lower mid table is a decent effort

Saying that though, I think the majority of us were excited and satisfied when just prior to the friendly at Trafford we had signed him. There have been a few lows, but this season was all about consolidating our place in this league, and we have achieved that with ease. Next season I would like us comfortable mid-table from the start, have a cup run that could maybe propel us up the table later on in the season and roll the dice.

18/3/2000 Hayes 1-1 Altrincham             11th in table
6/5/2000  Altrincham 0-0 Kidderminster  21st in table

I wouldn't go getting complacent just yet.
Your going of places rather than points but agree recent form is a worry

Also add that 2000 and 2015 are different in that IMO this Alty side is better and the Conference is weaker. I'm 90% that we will stay up, and said since Aldershot that we will finish anywhere between 10th and 17th. A point on Saturday will still be good, just for psychologically getting onto 50 points.

Only worry is the number of times this season where leaving the ground after a game thinking we deserved something from the game and got nothing, last night being another example.

He'd hate this thread, as he hated being called Warby. But genuinely one of the nicest guys I've met at the club, was smiling and laughing as he told people about his health, a sad loss. RIP Pete

« on: March 09, 2015, 10:14:39 PM »
What next? Wrexham at home and 3 points. Use these 9 games to get as many points as we can, would be great to have a top half finish.

Also think a few players need to show in these games that they are worth a new deal. Crowther seems to be one in this bracket, and made a good impression yesterday.

And following Southport's win over Halifax, Welling move into the bottom 4. Have to keep the performances of these last 4 games where we probably deserved more than 1 point to make sure we get 3 on Sunday

Funny how it works for some and not for others. For me, I'm unable to get to Welling, either Saturday or Sunday, so to be able to watch the game as a regular away supporter not there is fantastic. It's been odd listening to Radio Robins when I haven't been able to go, so will be bizarre seeing it live!!

I wonder what the reaction would be if John King was manager and his nephew Jeff is on the bench. Somehow I don't think it would get the reaction this has ( yes I know Jeff has come through the ranks, just the point of being a relative of the manager)
