Alty to sign Greg Young?
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:32:52 PM »

According to the Halifax Town website central defender Greg Young has left the club this morning and is expected to sign for Altrincham. Any thoughts?

Been doing the rounds this for a couple of weeks now, don't know too much about him to be honest other than he's had 6 months out with a knee injury. If he can fill in at full back, preferably left, then that would be a good addition. I think.

Presume he will provide cover for centre back and left back.

Looks like we'll be ordering some of these soon

Surely he wouldn't just come here as cover. Would you not think he'd be looking for first team football?

Well, from what I can gather he played a hell of a lot during the seaon Halifax reached the play offs but has struggled since having a cruciate ligament injury.

"Am I being thick? i don't get the Spitfire thing."

Companies give either carriage clocks or pictures of spitfires to employees when "retiring them" or they are " letting them go". said the taxi drver to the school teacher. ::)

Greg Young is a quality addition to our squad and likely to be long term replacement for Darren Tinson I think. The end for Karl Munroe? In the season Fax almost went up he looked like a magnificent centre half. The injury thing is a bit worrying though, let's hope it's not another Gareth Whalley.
You have to wonder how much of a part Chris Senior is having in getting these lads to come to Alty.

They must have found money from somewhere - that's 6 signings in a week or so.  GH been looking down the back of his sofa?

The reason its 6 in a week is just  because of the transfer window.

Whatever peoples criticisms of GH, he would have changed things sooner had he been able to.

Greg Young's cruciate ligament injury was sustained playing for Halifax against Altrincham on New Year's Day 2007.John Laidlar's match report states:-

Five minutes into the half Thomson escaped censure when he held Young's shirt and as the big defender went down he appeared to twist his leg and had to be stretchered off, to be replaced by Jake Wright (51 mins).

Ironically it was Jake Wright who was stretchered off on New Year's Day 2008 playing for Vics.

Also a number of you will be interested to know that his girlfriend was a "Soccerette" on Soccer AM on the day that Halifax played Hereford in the 2005 Nationwide Conference Play-Off Final.

Young at heart of Alty defence?
By Connor Murphy
Comment
ALTY have bulked up in defence after signing former Halifax Town defender Greg Young until the end of the season.

The 6ft 1ins centre half had his contract cancelled by the Yorkshire club this morning before arriving at Moss Lane to finalise his move.

Young becomes the sixth player to sign for the club since the beginning of the January transfer window and follows Halifax teammate Ryan Toulson, who earlier arrived on loan.

Despite starting 13 games at the Shay this season, including 10 in the Blue Square Premier, Young became surplus to requirements after manager Chris Wilder announced his intention to make major changes.

The 24-year-old started his career at Grimsby Town and has also spent two different loan spells at Alty's bitter rivals Northwich Victoria, making three appearances at the Victoria Stadium last season while he recovered from a cruciate ligament injury.

Meanwhile, former Robins midfielder Steve Bushell has also been released by Halifax, signing for Blue Square North promotion challengers Hyde United.

Yes but that's an increase to the squad - so that's more wages out (assuming we are paying some/all of the loan signing's wages and Whalley and Potts weren't on 3 grand a week each ;D).  A big change in the outgoings one would assume

Brian,

Are you sure that the Jakes are the same ones? I thought that Jake Speight was stretchered off on New Years Day this year?
