Isn't there a site where you can play about with the league tables to exclude fixtures by a certain club?
It would certainly be interesting to see the league table without Crawley.

Having said that, I don't think it will happen. Someone will come in to save them.

I just can't keep up with all the chicanery.

A lot of Lewes players (over half the team, I think) were ex Crawley - they had a point to prove on Saturday and they did it!

What IS going on down there?

They probably won't pay up today now.

Perhaps we may have an extra week to get the squad fit eh?

That would be a fantastic idea - especially if it was a "winnable" onw.

Can't see FGR, for example, agreeing to anything like that - though that match would be perfect.

A mid-weeker from next year would be just as good.

oh and the tiny matter of a goal machine upfront only his second appearence and already has 6 goals to his name and a MOTM this may go some way to explaining the chancge in form.

Can he play a holding role up front too - and would he mind being called Joe?

I know I only speak for myself but I'm sure most Alty fans would agree that although angry about going out of the cup again at this stage, we're not at all 'angry' with a set of players who have run through walls for us this season.

You're right though, some of those standing in have shown a skill and commitment level deserving of a pace in the team when everyone's fit.

I've talked about this on another thread and suggested, basically, a 'horses for courses' approach with teams picked to suit the opposition from a quality squad where different players can offer us different strengths.

That way everyone gets a reasonable number of games throughout the season and the players will be fresher for when the midweek games resume in the new year.

What do you think?

It seems to me that Joe is an effective holding player up front but. important though that job is, you've got to get a few goals per season to hold that place down.
This is probably the reason why York let him go.
He's got plenty of 'motor' in him and I wondered whether he could be the medium term answer as a wide player assuming that Thomson comes in and does a job.
I know he's done this once or twice already (I can't remember the games off hand) but it's another option.

The other major drawbacks to that idea are that it complicates the whether we play Pottsy debate and the Scotty vs Peyton on the left scenario.

It's just
1.  a lot of matches with not much chance of a rest
2.  a lot of injuries with cover stretched to the maximum
3.  missing Colin Little big time

After the York game, we've got a fortnight to re-group and then push on till the new year and I'm sure GH will use this to get the squad back to its full complement.

One other thing I'd like to say is that there has been a lot of healthy debate on here about what is our best 11 with those standing in doing a fine job.
My view is that all the squad are good enough to do a job for us and the team and there would be no problem for me were GH to rotate players sometimes to keep the everyone fresh. The balance would be a difficult one but I'm sure our management team could manage it.
On a simple level to give examples; if the team we're playing are a route one side, play Talbs and Bandy. If they've got nippier forwards, Monroe and Rosey. etc., etc.,
That way those left out would know the ones who were replacing them in the team were doing so to meet a particular strategy.

I'm starting to go on a bit now, but does anyone see what I mean? - or agree/disagree?

1-0 to the Robins for me - away win and a clean sheet! How's that for optimism?

and the back of the messenger under picture of munroe it says "Robins celebrate win over southampton"! tinpot!

Could be a prophesy for the 3rd Round?

Here's hoping!

Altrincham FC First Team / Very Quiet ...

... on here for the last day or two!

Are we all bracing ourselves for a big push this weekend?

I quite fancy us for a (very) rare away win.

Ah the Everton away game ... happy memories:

Going to the kiosk to buy 40 cigs (yes you could do that in a ground then) for 20p a packet, giving the bloke a pound and getting 2 x 50p's as change instead of a 50 and a 10. I said I thought I'd been given the wrong change and was told "Don't get smart just coz you're f**king winning!"

Peter Eales giving Latchford the "kiss of life" full-on snog after one of his theatrical dives for a pen!

Taking my old Dad in his last year with his bad leg and him kicking his tea down the neck of the Evertonian in front when we scored (we were in the steeply-sloped stand where the person in front's head was level with your knees). THAT was absolutely p**s funny!  ;D
