From John Laidlar's report of the home game against Halifax on 4th March with the game poised at 3-3:-

"Soon, there was then a quite amazing incident when Senior chased a 50-50 ball and managed to poke it past the advancing keeper Legzdins. The keeper wrestled the striker to the ground then held him down for a couple of seconds whilst a colleague cleared the loose ball. Astonishingly Mr. West played on as if nothing had happened whilst his linesman, who was almost as close to the incident, likewise seemed not to see what unfolded before his eyes (71 mins)."

If,if,if...the table going into Saturday's game would look like this:-

ALTY        42 points
HALIFAX   41 points

and our destiny would have been in our own hands!

Oh Mr West of Beverley, not too far away from Halifax (well they are both in Yorkshire, anyway!) if only!

No point in clutching at those type of conspiracy theories. Besides Alty is much closer to Halifax than Beverley is (Yorkshire is a very big county don't you know).

I would have thought that playing from August until the end of December without a recognised left full back may just have had a slightly more significant impact on our points tally.

Or dropping 2 points away at Salisbury, when 3-1 up with 3 minutes left. >:( >:(
