I am setting up a new initiative to encourage women to feel comfortable going to spectator sports.

As I know Football and Alty FC best, I am piloting the idea at this Saturday's match v Gloucester City.

I was interviewed by Brian on Radio Robins on Boxing Day, FCUM Radio on Sunday (I am 41 mins ish in) https://fcumradio.podbean.com/e/this-club-is-my-club-2nd-january-2017/

I will be on BBC World Service next week and the Sale & Altrincham  Messenger this week and next.

If you would like to pass on the details, the Facebook Group is here;  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1178445935584034/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel

And the Altrincham Sports Social Website is here;  https://www.meetup.com/Altrincham-Sports-and-Socials-Meetup/

This is hoped to become national, with little old Alty at the forefront and beginning of the organisation, which I hope will continue to be run by local people at each club in different sports once I am no longer around.

I think this will be good for Alty as well as all clubs eventually.

Please spread the info if you can.

Women are comfortable going to spectator sports. Try going to the Ice Hockey at Altrincham and you will discover there is a 50-50 mix. If you go to the Rugby there's plenty of women there too.

I know a fair few who aren't made to feel that comfortable WHILST THEY'RE AT games. Strides have been made to make grounds a safe space, but it is only because of initiatives like this.

All it can do is help.

Cheshire Alty.  It isn't just about women going with their men folk.  I have been contacted by a woman Leicester City season ticket holder who doesn't like going on her own when her husband works away. It would if she could meet up with other women season ticket holders on those match days.  A Man City season ticket holder who has been going for years would much prefer to meet up with other women rather than sitting on her own surrounded by men.  She would just like to improve her match day experience.

How many male Alty fans like going on their own and being on their own all match, every match.  Making friends is a big bit about what this is for.  For a lot of women, that is finding other women to go to events with.

Fair enough. Your original post didn't make it clear you were focusing on individuals. Good idea.

Hello!   :)

This isn't an Alty thing!  As I say above, it is the beginning of a national network.  No criticisms whatsoever of Altrincham Football Club, in fact, we are one of the better clubs.  However, it is an issue, I can send some academic papers to you which were commissioned identifying the issues but without solutions.  What I am trying to do is come up with a possible solution using money I was given, due to my health situation to get the ball rolling.

This is a pilot, a trial, if you like to see how it works using the club I know best as it's easiest to organise it before trying this idea or anything like it, following feedback from tomorrow, elsewhere.

Does this help?

Has Phil Taylor or Keith been in touch or Darren Gregory (I know he has connections with the junior girls set up) ?
