Title: Important appeal by the club
Post by: Paul Cain's Chip Pan on October 31, 2010, 01:10:41 PM
From our official site:

CAN YOU HELP, PLEASE?
Yesterday's excellent result at Hayes and Yeading was achieved on the back of a rare overnight stay for the Altrincham players before the game. Normally, Altrincham's part-time squad travels to games on match day and returns immediately afterwards.
However, manager Kenny McKenna believes that a significant factor on Saturday's performance was the improved preparation that an overnight stay permitted. The players were able to have a training session on Saturday morning and that was reflected in their improved play.

So, Altrincham FC is asking if any of its supporters, either singly or collectively, could contribute towards a planned repeat of the travelling arrangements for this Saturday's vital league clash at Bath City. If you can help with a donation of any amount, this would be greatly appreciated. Please contact chairman Grahame Rowley by e-mail or telephone 07720 606897 to make your donation.

A good idea but it would be wise for the club to put the a paypal link on so people can donate easily as well.

If all the loyal Alty fans turn up on Tuesday and pay the £10.
They get to see a game, and help for the cost of an overnight stay.
We would get about 300 for this game, lets all get behind the team and see if we can get 700.
Hope to see you ALL there.

The club should offer exclusive naming rights for moss lane to one of the many chain hotel groups,in return for overnight stays for the team. Be it travel lodge or premier inn etc its got to be worth at least trying to broker this sort of arrangement. Most of these chain hotels have premises in all conference towns.

Putting 20 people overnight is going to cost £600 in a Travel Lodge so it's going to take a hell of a lot of nice gestures by fans to fund 10 or so of these a year and it won't happen just by asking for fans to 'dig deep'.

However, it may happen if it's marketed properly and incentives given. I am no marketing expert but if it's advertised as 'Sponsor An Away Match' or similar like it's done for home matches, players kits etc then there's a chance that businesses just 'may' dig deep as long as there's something in it for them in return. What could be given in return the club need to think about that but just asking for a few quid off Joe Bloggs won't work.

Alternatively, why not sponsor individuals away accommodation at the beginning of the season. Pick your player like you do nowwhen sponsoring his shirt etc.

The company/people who sponsor the away match could be invited to join the squad on the coach - just a thought.

I'm not putting a downer on it just saying that it could be done if it's thought about properly.

I think its being asked for as a one off gesture and in my opinion the team coach is no place for a supporter/sponsor.  What happens on team coaches should stay on team coaches.

Fair point. If it's a one off gesture Ive done my bit - gave £25 last week to ideas4alty but I'd rather not think like that.

If it improves the team's performance why not "sponsor an away game" and do a proper job...?

Lots of league clubs do it. Whether it's right or wrong it's a fact

The team coach is an extension of the dressing room. Things need to stay within the dressing room. All you need is a Fan who is a gossip or a stirrer to be on there and you've got potentially big problems. Any club with a professional approach is mad to allow it in my view.

I think the reason why this appeal has come out is because of the fixture change. An overnight stay which is clearly necessary for a saturday afternoon game wasn't required for a tuesday game and therefore wasn't budgeted for. This is an extra cost that we need to find money for.

The club need to stress on tuesday that the bucket collection is for this overnight stay and then more people will hopefully put more in the bucket than usual

Its a great idea. Although maybe the naming rights should go to a bigger cause, not that i can think if any off the top of my head.

What actually happens to the bucket collections,do they go the club via
TASC or straight into the club's account.I would think it would be better
if these went through TASC & were allowed to biuld up so that there is
always money available for this situation to help the club out.I'm sure
that in my SAFE days that we always carried an emergency fund for
this sort of situation,I know it caused some disagreements between
the club & the SAFE commitee because the club didn't think that we
should be sitting on moneythat they desperately needed but this
present situation with overnight stays would clearly show this to be
the right route to go down, with an emergency fund always available.

Whilst all TASC money raised does go straight to the club, thus providing an important continuation of funds particularly at times of few match the matchday bucket collections are for the sos scheme, ie set aside withing club funds solely for squad strengthening purposes. Altho as they now bring in about 50 or 60 quid rather than the 100 they used to it takes an awful lot b4 the manager can use them. On certain occasions the bucket collection can be allocated to specific things and announced as such.

GH was adamant that no fans would travel with the players on the bus AND HE WAS 100% CORRECT.

Allowing sponsors on the coach was just a thought and I said exactly that and it was only one of a few suggestions I threw out there. Rather than picking up on something you don't agree with, which is easy to do, why not be a bit more positive on other suggestions unless of course there all a load of rubbish which they may very well be... ;D

Anyway, it looks like I've totally missed the point as the appeal for funds for overnight accommodation for the Bath game is probably a one off due to fixture change as mentioned by Ballers.

what happened to all the playoff donations last year, surely that should have been kept for situations like this or did we spend it on something else?

That was spent on the fee for applying for the playoffs.

I've made a small donation this morning as well.

I really hope we can do this overnight stay as it clearly made a difference last Saturday.
