Figgy Pudding hit the nail on the head about this multiple times on Facebook.
Clubs with a trouble element aren't exactly new to us. Grimsby, Tranmere, Chester and Wrexham have all brought big followings and to my knowledge there have been no problems this season. That's because they understand that no real Altrincham fan wants any trouble. We don't have the fan base for it. We haven't spent time in the Football League and developed some weird firm that thinks protecting their clubs honour at away games is some kind of necessity.
Macclesfield fans walked into the Tatton Arms yesterday expecting retaliation and they got none, it was probably the same on the streets before the game. A few kids gave them a bit back after the game and they did nothing.
I long for the the old rivalry with Northwich, where the game was heated but the rivalry for the most part was in good-humour. I don't enjoy the element of trouble and tension that this small contingent of Macclesfield supporters have been bringing to the Derby games.
Good to see GMP were switched on, but then again why wouldn't they be? A Police escort from the ground to the train station for a bunch of gobby pricks is a joke considering what happened to us in Macclesfield earlier this season. Not a copper in sight and we literally had to fend for ourselves / rely on Macclesfield's stewards. Funny how we recognised a few of the faces from that game in the crowd involved yesterday.
