Title: best grounds in the skrill north
Post by: Barry Howard was my Hero on April 19, 2014, 06:59:38 PM
Not been to them all but I thought Vegas and  Gainsborough were good, Telford was a let down for me, pretty soulless and generic , looking forward to chorley next year, it's years since I last went there.

Are there any other decent grounds I should pencil in for next years ?

I thought Edgeley park was a great ground with loads of character, just made better with yesterday's weather.
Was also impressed with Telford's and Hednesford's grounds too, both well built grounds that retain a bit of character you often don't see with new stadiums these days.

There is something about BPA that I quite like.

NFU is another odd little ground stuck away down a road then a walk past allotments and a park.  A view of the Humber Bridge and some lovely scenery around the area (avoid Hull!)

Depends what you're looking for. If, like me, what you want is an honest, homely non-League ground then you might like Leamington - Ferriby & Guiseley also fit that bill but may or may not be available next season; in terms of what might come up, I haven't been to Chorley for years either but it was a good ground. Ashton United & Stourbridge are remote possibilities for promotion that might be of interest. If you want something that reminds you of the Football League then I'm the wrong person to advise you as those are the kind of grounds I don't generally appreciate; if I wanted that sort of ground I could walk to Ice Station Zebra (aka Boundary Park) in 20 minutes.

Well I liked Eastwood, because it's only up the road. Stockport County held League One matches in 2010, and holds 10,000 ish. Super ground.

Other good ones ... Boston, Gainsborough, Stalybridge. Yep, Stalybridge prob fave..great backdrop.

I particularly liked Hednesford (though they seriously need ball boys), and Leamington (except for the car park !). Gainsborough has character (and excellent food).

I hate the club these days, but Colwyn Bay is a tidy little ground.
