Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Long Term Altrincham FC Support
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:49:30 PM »
I am one of those ex-Alty Junior players, who due to the free tickets and free season ticket am now a huge fan, every week I attend home and away games (every one bar Bath and H/Y). I used to go in the main stand every week , however it wasnt the best atmosphere, then one game I stood in the Golf Rod end and the difference in enjoyment was HUGE.
i love attending games, and I know many of the players from my age group(alty juniors) do attend most home, and  some away games. I see a lot of young alty juniors players there as well.

Thanks to 4 free season tickets - the club has a life long supporter so based on the maths alone - a loss in £200 (four junior season tickets) - has resulted in an extra ticket bought this year - an extra fan on most away trips - and all the season ticket money in the future.

How about Rocky Robin going down to BTH on a Saturday morning to the Under 8s football session every couple of months, the kids would love it and perhaps give a few kids season tickets away - at this point in the season it would only cost about £18 maximum in lost revenue per child, but it would only take 1 child to persuade his parent to take him and bingo, £15 in the till. Perhaps give out a handful of programs to that days game and some of those naff stick on bugs with Alty FC on them ?

Perhaps best to wait for the team to turn things around a little first !?!

Please be aware that Altrincham FC currently runs many junior sides (successfully) in the local leagues......how many kids come and watch the club on a Saturday ? I don't know the numbers, but I suspect only a small group. Some volunteers / level 1 coaches running the junior sides are big Alty fans and will be providing lots of encouragement to the kids to come along on matchdays. It's not like nothing is happening already.

My 2 lads go to BTH on a Sat morning where Chris Bullock and John Halfpenny run the Alty Under 8 and  below stuff prior to the proper teams taking over at Under 9. Chris quite often plugs the Alty game, and my gobsh*te son will always shout out who they are playing. When he was mascot I got him to tell Chris who had him stand up and tell everyone.

But like you say, you'd think you could get a bigger following from them but no one seems that bothered.

Todays program was similarly bad - twice I was reading one of the articles and had deja vu, as I realised the paragraph had been repeated!!

No. About half the team have gone for 1 reason or another since the good season last year (I'm also assuming it was a fairly stable team from the season before with a couple of changes), GH had to be patient and wait for players during the summer season, at that point the forum mood was one of trust in GH and KM. The team only train part time (and I guess it is very part time) and it takes time for the team to gel. Budgets in the BSP are ever increasing.  All of the above is out of the managers control surely?

Everyone makes mistakes (bringing in unfit players etc), thats why there are rubbers on the end of pencils - I think GH is trying hard to rebuild a team and is still trying hard now with approaches for another striker and seeing if Colin can help out. Hasn't he also brought in some extra training time?

The only disappointment in GH for me was when he threw the towel in the other week out of frustration and sat the second half out leaning against the wall and his public negativity. In his minor defence was his bereavement and that team orders on who takes free kicks just werent followed.

It would be interesting to know KMc's views on the team, manager and situation?

At some point the team should gel, all we have to do is hope it happens before its too late for this season.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: alty born and bred?
« on: September 13, 2010, 12:42:07 PM »
Born and Bred in Blackpool for 24 years, then Stockport for 7 and now Timperley for the last 4 due to the wife being a Timperley local.

There seems to be a few with Blackpool connections on here! I might have followed Blackpool but my dad never let me go due to all the football trouble there used to be in the 80's etc. I'm righting the error of his ways by getting my lads to support Alty actively.

Has it always been a 1 sided board? I was sure last season it was 2 sided so everyone could see - has the credit crunch hit hard !

and piss Alty ST holders off too !

Can I just clarify my comment is about making the gate £5 for all (which should not be done).

I fully support the Season ticket offer for £5 for other supporters.

I thought about a ST this year for me and the kids, but they cant go to the midweek games due to bedtime, which means I am doing it and cant go either! Therefore I pay full fare on the gate each week, which I am happy with. I even pay the seating price (and sit down), I can see no barriers to someone paying standing price and the sitting down ?

There's an update on the main site now.

Correct, a long term investor which would help us stabilise ourselves in the BSP.

investor - definition of investor - An individual who commits money to investment products with the expectation of financial return.
benefactor n. One that gives aid, especially financial aid

Ah, do we want the former or latter of the 2 above? I can see why there are no investors coming forward, in that football is very unlikely to make any form of financial return. If it would give me a return equivalent to ISA etc I'd be happy to invest as Im sure many others would be.

You'd have to have someone quite wealthy with a passion for the club to keep pumping money in ? Its either that or someone who likes to flash the cash and be the big man - which again would probably bring all sorts of issues.

Even so, attendances need to be higher and we still haven't got that injection of cash from an investor that's so desperately needed.

I've just checked historic attendances, and this seasons start is pretty much what it has been for the past couple of years at just over an average of 1000 per game.

I'm a new Alty supporter last year, and from what I understand the club has worked hard to pay off large historic debts and get to the great financial stability they have today - and all this on similar if not much lower attendances.

What has changed so much that means this attendance is no longer enough. Realistically it is not going to increase by any significant amount and is similar to many teams in the bottom half of the attendance table for the league last season.

Whilst I love saving money, is it perhaps time to raise the admission prices.

Why are we crying out so much for a substantial investor, would this then give us Crawley firepower and all the trouble of boom and bust?
