Confirmed by Gainsborough chairman

"I would like to announce that we have agreed to sign Greg Young from Alfreton. This will be completed on Friday.
An excellent replacement for Boycey, with a huge amount of experience, he promises to be a great asset for the club and we wish him all the best here at Trinity"

I love playing second fiddle to pub outfits....

Doncaster to Gainsborough.......easier travelling than getting to most clubs

Gainsborough........loaded club - good wages

Gainsborough........play-offs last season

It all stacks up

Gainsborough aren't a pub outfit.  They are a well established club that have been in this league for years quite happily but now have a millionaire.

Fair enough about these one horse outfits like Eastwood that are playing well above there level due to a manic money man but Gainsborough aren't one of them.

They will have offered him a mint and he'd be mad not to take it.  I presume Senior may rock up there as well...

.....and it hurts, but we are where we are and these clubs are not pub outfits. We have a great history, but history counts for little when it comes down to it in todays money market.

Sad, but true.

There's not a club in this league aside from Chester and Halifax that we shouldnt have more clout or pulling power than.

I absolutely agree...............but what do you do when a club has a chairman with an unlimited pot.......the guy might be a 'no great shakes' businessman in himself (nightclubs etc), but he is married to a woman who is co-owner of a major retail DIY and junk shop that made £65M profit last year.
To be fair, if he was like the Fleetwood guy / Crawley mobsters etc he would have invested far more and won the league at a canter, followed by promotion to the FL next season as well.

I hate clubs with 400 supporters having much greater spending power than us but what can we do other than hope an investor comes along on our terms ?

It's always amazed me that we never seem to get any businessmen investing in the club given our location.
We are sat right  next to one of the richest areas in the UK, yet godforsaken towns in the middle of nowhere seem to have no problem.

Maybe that's one of the problems?  "Godforsaken towns in the middle of nowhere" will generally not be areas as well off as the areas around Altrincham.  Therefore local people who are successful are much more likely to have been raised within the community so are more likely to want to contribute and support the local football team (I say this not knowing who the supporters of these clubs are but with the impression that at least with Gainsborough, the bankroller is someone local)  Being, one of tne of the richest areas means that people will be attracted there because of the area rather than of any connection with the location itself.  Also, these communities are generally relatively isolated - those within them will live their lives inside them for the simple reason that people are much more comfortable generally interacting with those from similar backgrounds and in similar circumstances.

So we just have to hope that someone with a pre-existing link to the club makes it...
