UC - I thought we looked tired against the 8 men, not shakey. I never thought Vics looked like scoring. I wonder if there are fitness issues.

coburn made two fingertip saves, one from shotton i think! their keeper played a blinder, specially in the first half hour when it like blitzkrieg alty. that has to be the most corners we had in a half all season. cahill very dangerous but i think colin little might be under pressure for his place when senior comes back. he let a golden opportunity slip when he chose to moan at the ref, rather than go with the ball. and for those getting too excited, we don't have all these guys til the end of the season.

i was very nervous when they had the ball in our box with all their guys forward at the end. i was just waiting for someone to go down under a challenge and get a penalty.

i thought coburn was fabulous. he looked better because the defence allowed him to be, as in turn they looked better because we had a midfield, and because we had a midfield the forwards had more of the ball. if we can play at oxford the way we played today we might get something. and if we'd had carlos logan on for the last fifteen minutes today he might have had a hatfull. that game was screaming for someone to run at the defence.

Agree that we needed Carlos to run at their defence in the closing stages - what hapened to him today? Have to say that Stuart hardly had anything to do, but does have a worrying tendency to remain rooted to his line when the ball comes over (see both the Vics goal and some earlier incidents). I thought that Scott Tynan at the other end commanded his box excellently and is far too good for this level.

I never stated we should crack open the champagne, I was merely congratlating a win, that is rare this season.

When they were down to 9/8 we had too much space and time, I do not think we were overly tired. We then panicked and hoofed it forwards.

Perhaps the loanees are not match fit ? Hence GH made changes, to save them for Satdee?

I thought Colin was good today and played some super football, he was unlucky with that super save at the end.

There goalie was class today. Stu still not 100% although he did a couple of good saves.

I understood the five (four really) were full-time players hence no need to worry about match fitness. GH was right to change players near the end to exploit a very tired and depleted Northwich side.

What was worrying was that you should (although sometimes difficult) beat ten men, hammer nine men and get a nice goal difference against eight men. Tactically shouldn't we have put more "up front" to get more goals, I thought it was not very adventurous playing the ball around the back-four at two-one, who knows what could have happened?

All-in-all and given the circumstances the new boys fitted in excellently and we looked capable of scoring more, perhaps (if it ever happens again this season) we should work out the tactics to batter eight or nine men!

Come on you Alty!

DT, my Junior team played Man City the other week with 2 players short all game, and it threw them tactically and we only lost by the odd goal, when we expected a heavy defeat.

I agree we tried to pass it around the back to much, but we got away with it.

Dave,

I understand but the boot was on the other foot this time! I am sure when you coach your team you press the importance of the "spare man", when you have three spare you should really be enjoying it! Northwich did work hard but even so pushing up should surely have reaped an even greater reward (Only in goal terms not points).

But three points all the same irrespective of the margin I suppose. ;D

Weren't we down to 10 men against Droylsden and with Sedgemore in goal? I think that was similar in that it threw their game plan - they decided to chuck on loads of strikers but didn't really know how to feed them the bal and so were totally ineffectivel :)

Well to be honest i thought we were "really enjoying it" after the second goal, i mean if there was stats if possesion in the last 5-10 minutes i reckon it would be 70-75% to us, ok we didnt score or put the game right out of reach which maybe we should have a done and a more synical team maybe would have done but overall we worked our socks of to get that second goal and when we got it we were cruising i thought.

Well Done Alty!

Lets have a good 08'!

Was I at a different game or did we threw Ryan Shotton up front towards the end, going 3 at the back, which lead to Joe O'Neills goal?

Ballers, you must have been at a different game or dozed off for 15 minutes! It was hardly "Blitzkreig" on the Northwich defence although you were correct Shotton did move up (as one of our two/three spare men) to give the "assist" for Joe's goal!  :D

It was a brilliant save by Tynan to deny Little near the end.
