Id sell the remainder of the lease on moss lane for a sh*t load of money, then I would re-locate the club at the now empty silver wings club on clay lane,I would use the already standing social club as the "Altrincham FC Sports & Social Club" with this having training pitches around it,it would be ideal for the many junior sides the club now has,i would have a n astro turf full sized pitch, some decent tennis courts and a number of 5-a-side pitches. Then I would build a new stadium, making the two ends behind the goals of simliar style to burton albion, complete with areas underneath with bar and cateing facilities at both ends.It would have two 2,500 seater stands on either side of the pitch, one with hospitality boxes and conference/function facilities underneath it,and the other with a bowling alley, gym for public use complete with squash courts and a sports eduction centre underneath.
There wold be a sizeable car park for matches days and for 7 days a week use by visitors to the other sports facilities on offer, and also a huge well advertised car boot sale on a sunday morning. And if there was any room left I'd put in a cricket pitch and practise nets and form "altrincham cricket club" in direct competition to timperley cricket club. If we could do that, then we truely would be a community club, and the club would be a place a lot of local people spent their leisure and socialising time, even before a football had been kicked.
And it would cost a damn site less than £15 million quid
Looks like it wouldn't of happened.
Timperley residents slam sports complex decision
Comment
PLANNING chiefs have backed a scheme to open a new sports complex on Green Belt land in Timperley.
Members of the planning committee agreed they were 'minded to grant' a development that is earmarked for the site of the former British Airways-owned sports club on Clay Lane.
Residents who opposed the scheme have slammed the decision.
Now the application will go to the Secretary of State for a final decision.
The BA club closed down in May 2006 and has suffered from extensive vandalism since. The site was acquired by the Sports Development Group (SDG) in August 2006.
Plans for the new facility include the demolition of the existing single-storey building and the erection of a two-storey health and fitness club with a swimming pool, gym, treatment rooms and changing rooms. There will also be additional car parking and a cycle storage area.
Existing access to the club will be closed and the new access will be shared with the adjoining Bowdon rugby club.
Objections to the plans have included an increase in traffic on Clay Lane leading to fatal accidents, that a two-storey building would be out of keeping with the area and an eyesore and that it was contrary to Green Belt policy.
Speaking on behalf of the SDG, Roberta Cameron, claimed that the building will be attractive, create new jobs and contribute towards the increasing problem of obesity as well as providing facilities for disabled members.
Councillor Ken Weston supported the plans. He said: "It's a good proposition and although it's Green Belt land sports facilities are welcome in those areas."
He went on to raise concerns about increased amounts of traffic on Clay Lane and the upheaval that may cause for residents nearby.
In spite of grave doubts surrounding the Green Belt land Cllr Phillip Gratrix expressed support for the application and said: "It is designed with sympathy for the area. The officers have made a good case as to why we should view the plans as acceptable in this location."
Cllr Tony Fishwick said that although the club would bring more people into the area this might lead to more accidents on Clay Lane.
A spokeswoman for the Ridgeway Residents' Group, which is fighting the scheme, said: "We can't understand how they can approve this as it goes against the council's own development plan.
"If this is what Trafford thinks of the countryside, then it is a disgrace.
"This type of development should be in an urban area and not the Green Belt."
Peter Noble, regeneration manager for the Altrincham town centre partnership, also objected to the plan. He said: "Clearly I'm supporting retail in Altrincham and don't want to see this competition from the Timperley area. The development is out of town and I support Total Fitness in the town centre, Trafford Community Leisure Trust and a new centre we're building within Altair. To have competition so nearby is a bit worrying."
