Rare to look forward to a friendly, but very much looking forward to it.

When I booked last week we were already booking up a second hotel. Granted there may not have been many spaces in the first once, but still sounds like there’s plenty of Robins visiting.

This is sad but probably inevitable.

What this demonstrates is that wealthy people will invest in their own projects where they have a local connection (in this case Barnsley).

What hasnt happended yet at Alty is for this to happen at Alty. Historically it wasnt encouraged after the bad experience of Maunders,.....
However, lately, despite clear attempts to find investor(s) nobody seems to have come forward,.. I remain convinced this is exactly because there is so much competition in the NW and so many other options to invest in.

What are these clear attempts?

I haven't seen any public attempt, it would be nice to see adverts, media engagement etc.

Unlucky!

It's a busy summer for the Isle of Man, as they are also competing (as Ellan Vannin) in the CONIFA World Cup for "independent football associations" in the south-east of England.

Looking at their squad for that tournament, the vast majority are based on the island, but one player is from Bottesford Town in the Northern Counties East League, and I know one or two readers will be interested to see that Seamus Sharkey is a Sligo Rovers player.

I believe they're two different sides - Ellan Vannin are an unofficial team and not recognised by FA, but tolerated. I think because the Isle of Man has aspirations of following Gibraltar into European competitions

We've got 18 signed on now and I'd be surprised if we have more than 19 in the squad so assume just a goalkeeper to come in. I think Dwyer is the additional striker.

I think that's the case, too. Hulme, Peers, Dwyer. Do we really need a fourth when we are very likely to play one up front and have a midfield that should contribute its fair share of goals?

If Phil is anything like last season I would expect a few to leave in early August

A striker and goalkeeper still required.

Wish it was under better circumstances and certainly I'm sure as Andrew planned this wasn't the plan to aim for national coverage.

At least it says National coverage.

Cheers Ian, I'd forgot to add it was a football mad city.
Weak

Its precisely the degree of competition in the city that has for many years put off wealthy investors, history clearly shows us that.
I am not a defeatist as you clearly think, see my other post, I am a REALIST and local businessman who knows the hard realities.
We CAN succeed but not with a fractured and split/disenchanted fanbase  :'(

So the chairman should resign for the good of the club then....

If there was a better option I am sure he would.

Are you saying the chairman thinks that nobody can do a better job than him then? :)

It doesn't make him right.

Agree with both previous posters. I’m concerned that some of the posts on this forum recently appear to be advocating the desirability of NOT actively seeking investment. If this view is shared at board level, we face a difficult future.
This thread has taken a very strange turn. I can't see where anybody is advocating that we should not be seeking investment. Stating the difficulties is simply pragmatism. See my earlier posts on other threads about the need for a high profile FA Cup run, and the publicity it would bring. That scenario is, to my mind, the best way to encourage investment. Roll out the bandwagon !

Some say pragmatic, some say excuses and negativity.

Just remember there's a solution in every problem.

Over 75,000 people reached with a little level of creativity. Imagine what could be done to attract interest to our 51% with the same level of thought.

Will be announced at midday tomorrow. Looks like there's 15

I wouldn't be so sure; the number on the graphic just rounded up to 15.  ;D

You know we've retained off the field staff, and there may be a shiny or two to collect.

5 Hale businessmen (one now Jersey based) on the train back from a day of racing.
None of them knew of share issue, or where online to read about it.

All United fans who occasionally watch us.

We can't even tell the neighbours correctly.

Let's get a for sale sign up ffs.

I do not accept or back the status quo thanks.
And im sick of being told to and that there is no alternative.
If rowley did the decent thing and stepped aside we would fill the gap same day
Nobody is saying there is no alternative,... but it hasnt happened yet !
Are you really that naive you believe that by some magic a better option would appear the same day, really ?
Or would you accept anyone, no matter how incompetent or useless to take over just because you dislike him?

If the board genuinely desire to reunify the club's fanbase then there's manifestly already "a better option" as chairman in the guise of one Bill Waterson Esq.
Or we could always invite Mark Harris to return......!

If we're looking at current board members, why not have Mike Adams.
I reckon he might accept we need to accept more money coming in

Thank god ur not running one of my companies Jack :D

I know right, heaven forbid, you'd might even have to do things differently... scary!
