Title: A very good source told me at half time...
Post by: markecky on December 29, 2007, 06:24:42 PM
that Mr Shotton will be back for the Vics game.

Watch the official site for news.

And the two lads from Rotherham and two others.  I know no more.

5 new faces for Vics? We'll sh*t em!

Don't shoot the Messenger but the dice has been rolled in the last chance saloon I hear.

5 new players (including Shotton) would be a massive, massive boost and should encourage Alty fans to travel in numbers to Northwich. Is this the first thing we've had to look forward to for ages?

With 5 new players, this is most encouraging.... however, 5 players who have never played together before??? Disjointed is the 1st word that springs to mind....... that said we couldn't look any worse than we have done in the past 3 - 4 games, the last 2 in particular

How long for Ecky?

How long for Ecky?

Good question: reports say we have the 2 Rotherham lads for 1 month. Frankly, that is not going to be a great deal of use.

Surely if there any good then we will look for an extension to 3 months or the rest of the season.

Although I cannot see him putting 4 new players in on Tuesday, surely they need to train together first.

The impression that I get is that it can be extended if all partiers are happy because that's what happened with Taylor at Burton, Mills at Crawley and Kerr at Northwich

I can see him putting the lot in to be honest.  What do we have to lose?  Its hardly likely to disrupt our flow!

I am sure the loans will be for 1 month at first...last thing we want is to be saddled with someone elses duffer if they don't work out.

I'd play 9 new players if we had them.

There must be a good chance of getting Shotton for the rest of the season. Stoke don't seem to want him for the immediate future or they wouldn't have allowed him to be cup tied.

Yes, sorry wasn't including Shotton in that, I am sure he will be until the end of the season.

Yeah its, five new players that didnt face vics or stevenage today, and thats just the loan players that are coming in.No point in puting any of the other new players names on here, let maarmria have no idea who he's lining up against on tuesday, until the official announcement, that will give him little time to work out whos who. As for not playing together, who knows they may have a training session tomorrow, afternoon if the majority of players are still off work for christmas. If not tomorrow night, its not as if they'd be getting pissed otherwise.

So, we haven't re-signed Chrissy Adams then at least!!  ;D

im sure gh would have the sense, if we have some new players, to organise a training session and possibly a meeting so all the players know each other and how they all play.

Hmm, I'm delighted that Ryan Shotton is coming back but my slight worry is that good a player as he is, and a nice lad as well, even when he was here the defence has shipped goals, it's not as if we were watertight before he went back to Stoke is it?

Still, he's a better player than what we have and his throw ins will be useful. Moreover, he gives us some real pace in central defence which has been lacking somewhat since he left.

I'm actually wondering if Liam King may be one of the best signings. The past two games we've been exposed by not being able to cover ground in central midfield and ball have been played into opposition strikers too easily. With him being fitter (i.e. full time) and a centre half as well maybe he will be the protective midfielder we've lacked since Val was really in his pomp.

Along with a left back and centre forward, a ball winner in midfield is the type of player we have missed so badly for most of the season. It could make a massive difference.

Not necessarilly a ball winner, just somebody who can cover the 40 yards across the centre of the pitch really quickly thus stopping oppo strikers getting the ball into feet so much.

Anyway get Whalley to tackle if you want a battler  ;)

Ballers,

As some chap called Meatloaf once sang, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Shotton is a promising prospect but he's not exactly Alessandro Nesta.
