Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stoke City Match thread
« on: July 26, 2022, 10:24:43 PM »

A Stoke City supporter has just told me that they are reportedly playing members of their first team against us.

Apparently, they have been "truly dreadful" in pre-season to date and so they were probably aiming for a confidence-boosting exercise ahead of their opening league fixture of the new season at Millwall on Saturday.

Yes, I heard the England team did the same against Aylesbury United once...

Certainly things to be learnt from King's Court and Costello's. And there are the people who did up the Gardner's Arms who came in with a reputation for turning places around (as I remember). These are the sort of people we want to be speaking to.

We're playing Maidenhead (who have competed in every FA cup competition ever) early doors?

I thought it ironic that after years of a certain sort of "United" supporter deriding Alty as a pub team that we found ourselves more recently with thousands of United supporters watching non-league football with Soccer Club and Salford (and maybe West Didsbury) - even some United supporters getting fed up of Premier League culture? (and I just hope we can hold on to our own long-standing supporters with recent changes - some may accuse them of wrong think, but people have deeply held views about the things that made watching non-league football and Alty in particular so special).

These new plans for the Fan Zone make me absolutely despair. Of course it makes sense on one level for the club to maximise revenue but if the intention is just to replicate the very poor beer selection from the CSH, that will backfire massively. It's so short-sighted not to see what value Libero and other independent food outlets could add to the matchday experience. More than that though, Libero seems to have done more than the club itself to at least try and get the Fan Zone up and running. So for us to boot them out now is really shoddy. Incredibly disappointing.

Don't Dulwich Hamlet do something of the sort with good quality independent food and drink at Champion Hill? There was even a suggestion that some people come there more for this than the football. Certainly they have been getting the crowds in so they must be doing something right! Worth learning from?

"Growing up as a young carer"

Says it all - one of the toughest jobs going and scandalously undervalued, but she's done it and done it well, as well as being a talented artist and interviewer of managers and all the rest of it. She's done things I can only dream of, and at such a young age. This club owes her a lot.

I suspect they wouldn't have been too many at Halifax!

Am I right in thinking that the Huddersfield cup match (1990), when it was quite packed on the steep Chequers End terracing, is the only time (at least since 1990) that perimeter fencing has collapsed at ML? And is the current fencing structurally significantly different to the fencing we had previously? And will the current capacity (5,000?) be increased once the fencing issue is sorted?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Improving the website
« on: July 19, 2022, 09:14:38 PM »
I suggest that it would be interesting to have links to some historical media reports and coverage of the club (eg some of those legendary John King interviews, the Wycombe FAT semi - or for that matter Wayno's expert prediction on that Alfreton match!). I don't see why the likes of Youtube should have these and not us (and it might make things easier for some of Parky's presentations!). I don't know if there are copyright issues or anything, but surely this would be worth pursuing if possible?

Let's hope things are back to normal next season. "Oh Ryan Colclough I think we should pay you some more".

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Website - Men's team squad
« on: July 12, 2022, 10:14:47 PM »
Really?  You think it’s unreasonable to suggest the the club website should have match reports from the preseason friendlies and a list of at least the names of the first team squad?  The club have come on leaps and bounds over the last few years but the website and the fanzine fiasco are not up to the required standard.

No one expects the club to get everything right all the time but we can point out shortcomings when we see them and the irritate us. Not being able to find the friendlies scores on the official site and having to go to an unofficial source on Saturday was irritating and given the ‘new website’ fanfare I’m providing my feedback on it.

Absolutely we must stand up for free speech, which sometimes means telling people things they don't want to hear.

That reminds me, who plays at Flixton these day? I'm sure I read something about it recently but I forget who it was.

And do they still sell Lancashire hotpot there?

That used to link to info on Lisbon trams.

Whatever happened to the mailing list? (I suspect I might be confusing some people here...).

After being told everyday the countdown to the pre season etc, I find it strange that the website has no news of todays games or teams etc.

If it wasn’t for the folk on the forum no information would be forthcoming on todays fixtures.

Pre season rant over.

A report on both games on the Alty Files site.

I would say though that it would be worth making a recording of the ever informative (apart from on a few of those trialists!) Radio Robins commentary available online, if indeed this hasn't already been done.

Speaking of trialists, the West supporters had a song for one of their trialists (there was singing at all three NWCL friendlies I've seen this preseason) - and a song about celery!

Was quite happy with our 2-0 half time lead, but then the outstanding Brad Jackson was taken off, and we produced very little in the second period. Apart from Jackson, I was fairly impressed with Ross Barrows. I wasn't taken with Liam Brockbanks though.

I was impressed that he produced a miss arguably worse than NcGoona. Admittedly there was a man on the line, but he had time to pick his spot from a good position. Apart from that he was good.

I didn’t go last season but have been several times before and had a great day out (three pigeons and all). Reading the comments about the stewarding last season I’m reconsidering going on NYD.
Did the stewards manhandle anyone or verbally abuse our fans? Can anyone be more specific please as to why some of those who went last season feel so strongly about not returning this season please? I don’t fancy going if it’s going to be an ordeal.

To me, it looked like the police/stewards were trying to fight and shove  our supporters. I was stood further along from them and got the knock on effect, which I could have done without. They made Ru$hden's stewarding seem reasonable.

Saying that, I don't suppose anyone sat at the front would be directly affected.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Alty at the Shay, oh what fun it is to see Alty win away.
Better not have fun or the stewards will kick you out

I can now get bladdered on New Year's Eve without having to worry about the following day's footy. I said I'd never do Halifax again, and I meant it.

How come Phil.
Disgraceful stewarding.
100% behind Phil on this.

Absolute over the top, unwarranted, heavy handed stewarding last August.

In two minds myself whether to give them £20 again - but have friends from this town and enjoy the visit to the town.

I actually have a friend managing Halifax, but I'm still not going after last year!
