Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?

Makes me a little bit gutted it wasn't a larger raise, and also shows that the "No one wants to invest in a club like Altrincham" rhetoric was indeed such utter bollocks

Indeed. It shows there's an interest in a well-run club like Alty who do things the right way (though I must admit that such schemes go somewhat over my head).

Onwards and upwards.

Just goes to show how players can prove people wrong sometimes, even experienced managers in some cases!

Altrincham FC First Team / Dinanga!
« on: October 07, 2022, 09:49:21 PM »
Looking at the control and pass for the first goal against Gateshead, and the run and finish for the second, it occurred to me that if one considered these moments in isolation without considering what else has happened this season, one would have to conclude that Dinanga was a class act. And I must say I felt that his goals had been coming, he has come close a number of times (including, I think, a disallowed goal pre-season), not least with the shot off the underside of the bar which would have been a tremendous strike. Now of course people have grown impatient with some of the things he has done this season, and with good reason. But he scored quite a few at Websfleet (or wherever it was) didn't he? Is it just possible that, having scored, and having become more accustomed to this level and playing competitive matches with these players, he could go on a scoring run, or am I getting carried away by a couple of goals? Certainly it would be a tremendous boost for the team if he did. And whilst there would still be a big role for Jordan Hulme (whose ball control in a tight spot is reminiscent of Gary Anderson at his best), just maybe Marcus can play an important part in this season.

(Now this is the sort of thing I really want to talk about  ;) )

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Budenberg Gauge on tv tonight!
« on: October 07, 2022, 07:29:15 PM »
They featured on Fred Dibnah's Made In Britain. Apparently they made a pressure gauge for his traction engine. I hadn't realised Budenberg were a part of such an iconic part of North-West tv history! I'm glad the building has survived at least as flats. I understand Budenberg had quite a historic bowls club as well.

Believe it or not, there is a minority group here in England, inevitably including football followers, who endeavour to pay by cash only as far as possible as a point of principle, and in fact possible reasons for this are not hard to find. Whilst there may be people who consider it acceptable to be prejudiced against this particular minority group (though I would hope and expect that such bigotry would not be aired on here), the point is that the decision for whatever reasons not to accept cash payments from some or all spectators by certain football clubs (and notably, of course, Wrexham) tends towards the exclusion of such football supporters, and I would tentatively suggest that reasonable efforts should be made by clubs (as has happened at Alty) to accommodate people from this group, the same as with other minority groups. I repeat, Alty for all. Alienate groups of people and they (and for that matter other people who care about the treatment of minorities) may leave for good.

Ha, it pretty much was that where I was working a year or two ago!

Is their club motto  ' We Wrecks Em ' .

"Wrexham wreck 'em!"

Headline after Wrexham beat Arsenal in 1992 ("the magic little man").

Incidentally, Wrexham should've gone down the season before.

*checks google* Oh there are places that offer printing in Alty, excellent. No man left behind.

https://g.page/mbealtrincham?share

You can probably fax Wrexham a letter of complaint while you are there.

Thanks for your snipe! :)

The point is, it is extra hassle, even if I do have a printer. Printing stuff off is what people do when they go to work, not for fun.

This sort of thing (plus what happened at Halifax) 100% excludes people, particularly from certain groups. I repeat, Alty for all. And do try and come up with something actually useful, I know you're capable of it.

Quite. Why should I bother with clubs who make life difficult for me, among others (and that includes Halifax!)? It just encourages them.

Don't forget that people for whom this may be an issue are disproportionately from certain groups. I repeat - Alty for all!

Well done lads, energy, enthusiasm & no little skill. Enjoy the trip home, well deserved.

Getting political? ;)

That sounded good, well done lads. Looks like we are running into a bit of form now, we have played a lot of fancied teams already this season.

Well done to the lads and Parky & Sorvs.

Next up Dorking this Saturday in our first meeting with them.

Onwards & Upwards

Dorking did actually go bust though to be fair this is pretty much an Accrington/Accrington Stanley situation.

superb! when did we last score 3?!

Seems like it was Frickley Colliery

(Now there's a temptation to get political if ever I saw it!).

Maybe judge Parky after twelve games this season instead of ten?

Seriously, if they finished the season now, I'd settle for it!

Now who's going to be the first to take a punt and predict a top half finish?

Maybe I'm getting carried away but that does feel like a turnup tonight after all the times we've gone to Gateshead knowing we won't win!

Hoagy used to do the pre=season "league table" in random order so that Yeovil wouldn't be bottom!
