Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Wrexham Match Thread

They dont seem to start games well but they come good in the 2nd half.  I'll take better than last year be nice to get a goal or at least be more than 2 mins before they score

That was depressing. The BBC text service went straight from "Wrexham v Altrincham" to "Wrexham 1-0 Altrincham" as I remember. Poles apart though. Hundreds of thousands on one player at Wrollywood...

Tough as it gets. They haven't been as dominant as i thought they would be. I think we will be defending for long periods. The front man is going to have to hold the ball up much better than last night

                              Byrne

Barrows.    J. Jones.  Cooper.  E. Jones

                    Osborne.     Lundstram

          Kaja.      Conn-Clarke.  Colclough

                             Hulme

No score prediction but this wont define our season.

Good luck to all

Kaja starting? We don't shy away from controversies on this forum (mostly)!

Good luck to all.

Just for the record, on the stroke of half time, I have been positionig myself by the memorial wall on the stroke of half time and making a dash for the CSH the moment the half time whistle blows. Mostly, I have just about managed to get served and finish my drink for the start of the second half. I did a similar thing with the fan zone at the Oldham match on an admittedly busy night and missed a minute or two of the first half, with a shorter queue than I had been standing in all those times in the CSH. Still, hopefully things will improve. That has to be the aim - to get as many people as possible served at ht without missing game time. And indeed ultimately to help overturn this fatuous alcohol ban in view of the pitch at all NL games and preferably some FL games.  After all we don't have this requirement in other sports, or for that matter in NLN games such as Darlington vs. York, to the best of my knowledge. Alcohol watching sport for all, and if some spectators are a problem, punish them not the decent majority!

A good solid performance with a really good work rate.  I thought it was a strange decision to sub Jordan when we needed to retain possession and hold the ball up? Admittedly he may have been tiring but still the better option

Yeah, trying to refrain from being negative about Dinanga because he has improved a lot, but he has been poor in the last two games.

Think we need Jordan up top against Wrexham with Kaja out wide.

I'm just pleased we've managed to get Jordan Marcus and Ryan all on the pitch, and with Egli fit again, let Wrexham do the worrying.

Also pleased to see us grind out a win after two long away trips. How much difference has being full-time made?

In truth, a pretty nondescript game of football which was illuminated by a superb strike from Chris Conn-Clarke.

After a bit of a shaky opening 10 minutes or so, we enjoyed plenty of possession but it was all rather pedestrian and we never troubled their goalkeeper.

The second half witnessed greater urgency from Alty and I thought that we warranted our victory overall.

An impressive turnout from Oldham (there were certainly some Latics fans in the main stand, too) but they were mightily disgruntled at the final whistle (and with good reason).

I thought that their approach was all very negative. They lacked any threat down the flanks and there was a persistent absence of creativity. John Rooney contributed next to nothing.

Having said that, I was encouraged to see a much more convincing display from James Jones alongside a solid Jake Cooper. The imposing Josh Lundstram stood out once again.

As our Radio Robins/media darling Laurence Howarth sagely mentioned to me after the game, for Oldham Athletic this evening had distinct parallels with that afternoon back in August 2013 when we demolished Stockport County 3-0 at Moss Lane. The relative depths to which they have plummeted in recent times were never better illustrated than by tonight's wretched experience for their travelling supporters.

Anyhow, I look upon this result as overdue revenge on their CEO, one Darren Royle Esq., for that utterly miserable and wet afternoon in Guiseley back in 1996 when I had the misfortune to watch him lumbering down the wing with all the grace of a wounded bison whilst wearing an Alty shirt, as we crashed out of the FA Trophy.

In the words of Morrissey: "Beware, I bear more grudges than lonely high court judges."

Do we still have ever Altrincham supporters going in the "away" end, like the Barnet match in 1991 (maybe I should try it as a stand against segregation - I loved that Bromley match last season!)?

I agree about that Stockport game. And Oldham will have to up theit game if they don't want to end up like Stockport.

Surely noe Darren Royle had some good games. Well one good game. Or one good goal. I think. How did he end up in that position at Oldham anyway?

I had no end of mither with him. I wasn't going to say anything, but then he came and  accosted me in the ground and asked to see my "ticket". I understand you need to have new starters sometimes, but I suggest not on reception on a busy night.

And never mind "f". I'm arsed, and I paid a lot of money for a season ticket, in hard times. And by the way, if the company responsible can't guarantee an improvement for next season, I would tentatively suggest making alternative arrangements, my season ticket has still not arrived. Though to be fair I have always managed to get in. Eventually (tonight was the first time I had any sort of issue, when I went to ask if my season ticket had arrived and was faced with this jobsworth new starter (who to be fair had been enjoined by another steward to check everything carefully)).

(And yes, brackets)))))))))))))) :)

1-0 Alty Dinanga (Pen) 43'

A clean sheet? Blimey, that would be a turnup, especially without Mullarkey. Still, I suppose we managed it against Aldershot (and Sandbach).

I just noticed the Dinanga penalty bit too. A very bold prediction! And I'd love it to be right...

Hear hear. We can still win this. Four games unbeaten now. As long as we learn from our mistakes (and to be fair we were better second half) we have every chance. Salty Alty!

I'm not making a scene, I'm asking a civil question. The club probably read this website anyway. Certainly they always used to. Besides, aren't we supposed to get all our information from the internet now? I'll check the website tomorrow - though Monday is cutting it a bit fine for a match on Tuesday.

Do you know, in previous seasons, back when we weren't being mucked around, I have attended almost every Altrincham f.c. first team game, plus some reserve games (home and away) and training sessions (the ground and the gas works). Why is it making a scene to ask politely on an Altrincham f.c. first team forum what I have  to do to attend an Altrincham f.c. first team game? Seriously? I guarantee I'm speaking for plenty of people besides myself.

And I may also add that I tried phoning Gateshead about the league game but could not get through to them.

Alty for all.

If it's any consolation (and I admit it might not be) Wrexham only drew at Blyth.

We can't defend like that and expect to win games.

(By the way, Sunderland got promoted! :) )

Colclough has had a very heavy cold apparently.

Why malarkey is second choice rb is mind boggling.

Conn-Clarke was battered black and blue, received no protection from the ref and has little chance of playing Tuesday.

What position was Malone playing and why

Aside from the first 10 mins the first half was dire.

Improved when Hulme and sniffly Colclough came on.

Believe Mullarkey came off with an injury..

Bennett has torn a hamstring and gone back to parent club.

Poor day all-round but we are in the hat on Monday.

When was the last time a player scored 4 games on the spin?

Well at least I never "wined" about Dinanga. I always suspected there was a decent player in there and happily we're seeing that now!

Sorry old boy, but it was too good a double-entendre to turn down. And besides I really want to know. If I go, I leave after work at 4pm. But if the traffic is bad at that time there will be no point, hence my reluctance to pay in advance when it could be wasted. It seems a reasonable enough question in the circumstances. "Bloody rubbish Alty".  I ask a blasted civil question and all I get is a load of blasted cheek. It may not be an issue for internet geeks and keyboard warriors but I guarantee it's an issue for some. Carry on corp....

By the way, I see that South Shields beat Sc*nthorpe. Maybe we can lose there in the next round. :)

Oh, and "Don't [go]" - what a ridiculous thing to say. We should all care about people turning up to games. And anyway, I made it clear that I do want to go, just not to pay before I know if I can go.

Nobody I know objects to me raising the issue. What's the big deal? If you're not interested in the topic, don't read.

« on: October 15, 2022, 05:29:07 PM »
I for one am not paying in advance only to find the traffic's bad and I won't make it, and I'd guess I'm not the only one. Not all of us have a magic Allegro. :)

N.B. I said before the draw that we'd definitely lose if it was South Shelds away. Well we've got the next best thing now. Happy days...

P.S. In the queue today, someone asked me if this was the queue for paying by cash. Then someone else asked me if it was the usual prices. Just saying.

You honestly would be able to if we played Ayr United! Now if it was Wick Academy...

If I was a Canadian trucker (instead of a would be British one), I reckon I'd have some quite strong opinions on this. And I see there's been some quite interesting news on Paypal recently to say the least. I make no apologies for repeating, Alty for all.

And thanks to all who have contributed to this interesting thread, whatever their position. Free and frank exchange of opinions enriches us all and must be defended.
