David James would agree with you about keepers - he mentioned how he would ponder if he should count a clean sheet where he hardly had a save to make. Lies, damned lies and statistics. Still, I tend to suspect that our improved record when Carmody played was significant.

Their Twitter feed is hilarious tonight. They mostly crucify Robbie Savage (which is perfectly understandable), and feel that Danny Whittaker has got the sh*tty end of the stick. Apparently he's still on the payroll as Youth team coach.

Once a classless club, always a classless club I'd say.

Don't tell me - it was a Savage decision!

I'd better also resist the temptation to quote the Wythenshawe Town fan on Robbie...

Sorry, you're right. 8,896 against County, which was their biggest league attendance of the season thus far at the time, and over twice the four thousand odd we got against them in the Conference North one season (also their biggest attendance at that stage).

I think that Colchester would have been the highest Conference crowd we'd have played in front of at the time (and possibly least friendly too!).

I suspect that there will be a rather big crowd if we play Macc in the CSC this season, especially if it is switched to the Moss Rose as has been suggested - though rather less than 8,000!

Was this the biggest league crowd Alty have played in front of today? And what is the biggest one apart from Wrexham? I suspect the Colchester game, at least in modern times. And it's hard to believe there would have been much more in the Cheshire league - though I understand there used to be some stupidly big crowds in cup competitions, even the Cheshire cup!

I'll resist the temptation to do a poll on how many seasons - if ever - it will take Macc to reach the National League.  ;D

I suppose they haven't bet the house on successive promotions? Wouldn't be the first club to reform and still manage to run into trouble again.

Job's a good'un - no cards or injuries!

Mark my words, they are a club who could be challenging for a Premier League place in five or ten years, Even if Marriot and Kosylo and everyone had been available and playing well, plus the players people talk about signing with that 300k that was raised, we'd have likely still been up against it today. A brilliant overhead kick, for heaven's sake - when was the last time an Altrincham player did any sort of overhead kick?

By the way, what was going on in the background first half?

Just for the record, on the stroke of half time, I have been positionig myself by the memorial wall on the stroke of half time and making a dash for the CSH the moment the half time whistle blows. Mostly, I have just about managed to get served and finish my drink for the start of the second half. I did a similar thing with the fan zone at the Oldham match on an admittedly busy night and missed a minute or two of the first half, with a shorter queue than I had been standing in all those times in the CSH. Still, hopefully things will improve. That has to be the aim - to get as many people as possible served at ht without missing game time. And indeed ultimately to help overturn this fatuous alcohol ban in view of the pitch at all NL games and preferably some FL games.  After all we don't have this requirement in other sports, or for that matter in NLN games such as Darlington vs. York, to the best of my knowledge. Alcohol watching sport for all, and if some spectators are a problem, punish them not the decent majority!
The final sentence is pointing out the beliefs of the masses. If you misbehave you don't get an arm round the shoulder and told you must promise not do it again. If I was the guilty party I would expect to serve the due punishment and not shift the penalty to everyone else. You can't even drink in the fanzone and look at the pitch!
You can have a couple of pints, come out and check the pitch is still there and go back in and drink some more. That's legal. Come on. It's farcical. Hit those who offend HARD and let the rest of us enjoy ourselves. This needs looking at again by the powers that be. Plenty of fans watch rugby, cricket and football. They don't become different animals when they enter a football stadium. The government needs to get a grip of the legislation irrespective of whoever is in power.

I forgot to add, Altrincham have been a force for driving change in football before (1986?) and hopefully can continue this tradition on issues including this one! It would be nice if the NL/lower leagues could adopt one or two of the things we value about the non-league game rather than us having to take on all the stuff we don't like about going to watch the big clubs. No wonder FC United appear happy to remain in the NPL (though I emphasise I would still like us to get to the FL - and push for the stuff we believe in and that attracted us to watching Alty).

Just for the record what was on offer in the Fanzone?

A wheat beer  (Erdinger?) that took an age to pour. Now I like a good wheat beer now and again, but perhaps not the time or the place, all things considered?

But Alty we love you?

Please don't go through Warrington. Bound to be bad. Watling Street is good enough for anyone (who's jumped through hoops to get tickets etc.).

Honest to bloody God, this forum!

We've bought up a young asset with potential, and sent him out at a higher level than previous to continue his development. Same with Roxburgh / Brockbank, I expected all three to be farmed out.

He isn't ready for National League football, nor did we expect him to be when we signed him up.

Some people will spin anything into a negative.

Good move for all parties and hope he smashes it.

This. And it is a testament to the progress of this club that we are loaning out a promising young player to an ambitious club who were until recently a bigger club than us (and our promotion rivals).

I was going to save this until January, but might as well settle the negativity question.

And for the record, in this difficult season of transition to full time football and with one of the lower (one of the lowest?) playing budgets in this league, so far as I am concerned anything above 21st would be an acceptable season. And a reminder, nobody voted for top half last time.

Parky had a dream

we might be able to get a new defender in then?

With Toby and Baines just a few weeks away, I don’t think we need more than 4 CB? Or are you thinking of cover on the left or right sides? Save the money in that area and get another striker and CDM.

13 points in the last 6 league games (I think) and above a former PL team. No need to panic just yet. Let's remember that literally nobody was expecting us to finish top half a few weeks back and yet here we are just three points off the top half. And there's probably loads of other things that need money spending on them.

We've raised 300k and had promised support from thr board.

If we've not managed to get a CB within 6 week we mihht as well call it a day

Unless we continue to march up the table with what we've got. ;)

Though admittedly it would be nice to know more about where this money has gone and the nature of the support.

P.S. you had it right at half time. Everyone get that quick-pouring pale ale can in the fan zone until things get up to speed...

1-0 up at HT, Conn-Clarke.

One letter off - and Toffee Apple one comment about Dinanga off. And I should add that I am very pleased with the outcome, poor as Oldham were.

I must admit I hadn't realised that Oldham (or anyone else) had such a poor scoring record away from home!

1-0 Alty Dinanga (Pen) 43'

A clean sheet? Blimey, that would be a turnup, especially without Mullarkey. Still, I suppose we managed it against Aldershot (and Sandbach).

I just noticed the Dinanga penalty bit too. A very bold prediction! And I'd love it to be right...

A big whoosh is needed, unless you're double whooshing

That takes me back! Hoagy's Cidespace-linked Conference forum, heated debates about crisp-flavoured sandwiches (among other delicacies), tongue in cheek posts commencing "off topic - Conference football", and nobody batting an eyelid - those were the days!
