Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Must win, did win, get in...

Full credit to Neil Tolson and the players today, a good performance, 4 goals, clean sheet and huge confidence boost. However, one swallow doesn't make a Summer and Aldershot were poor. We won't know who was right and wrong until the end of April, but I would bet anyone who was at Barrow, as I was, wouldn't have predicted that today and anyone who says they did, are lying. We're off the mark under Tolson, let's move on to next weekend.

Have we asked anyone? People aren't just going to turn up at the ground and say "here's some money".

I am fully behind the football club's community work, I proposed it to the previous board and work in community investment in my day job, doing voluntary work and fundraising. I have nothing against the sports hall, but would question what kind of revenue stream that will bring to the club. The hall is a charity in its own right and will surely invest its income within. Our caring 'board' doing right by Neil Tolson makes us look tinpot, we should want the best manager we can afford, which is what any organisation should want not just a football club. You say you don't agree with his appointment but thank the Rowley family for making it anyway. I don't know him personally but whether Grahame Rowley is a nice bloke or not has nothing to do with it, when was the last time we had a new board member from 'outside' the club? Why are we scared of attracting new investment?

The popular side issue has got ridiculous, I'm not precious about it but no other club would have that situation.

It's our club when the Chairman, wants it to be, usually when money or volunteers are needed, but also he's quite happy to show contempt to the fans at will too. Don't be fooled into thinking that things will change in the Summer and we'll suddenly remember we're a football club again, if I anted to support a tinpot family club with no ambition I'd have gone to watch one of the Tameside clubs long ago.

No I'm not suggesting he should go. I think he and the board have done a great job over the years but doesn't mean I'm impressed with his actions this week. You were suggesting how difficult it was to find a manager, I was just suggesting its not as hard as you think as managers will have approached the club. Its not my job to name names,  but its the Chairman's job to appoint the right manager. Lets hope in this case he has case you're right and he has done.

I'm a shareholder too, but likely 99% of us don't have the money to invest, however I'm pretty certain we wouldn't have had to go looking for a manager in Tesco's, Sainsbury's or wherever. There would have been a raft of them on the phone as soon as Lee Sinnott's departure was announced and I would hazard a guess a few CVs in the post as we speak, posted before Tolsons role was made permanent. This is all about giving a mate a job and nothing else.

I think the phrase here is, "be careful what you wish for". Those that derided Lee Sinnott, unfairly imo, may long for his return in 2 or 12 months time.

That statement from the Chairman, is embarrassing for the club. We gave him the job because he's our friend and we want to look after him? So if we go down, it doesn't matter because at least we won't have upset Neil Tolson. Unbelievable.

We need a new manager and quick, if we are to at least try and stay up. Surely the Chairman can see that?

If so its a tad bizarre. A new man should have been brought in,I fail to see how this will end well.

I bet he wouldn't be interested, why would he want/need the hassle. You're living in a dream world if you think it would work, he will have lost touch with this level of football, time moves on and we have to move forward. I bet the Chairman's phone will be ringing off the hook tomorrow with people interested, his job is to choose the right man at the right price. Not an easy task.

I hope he does, but can't see it I'm afraid.

Too be fair Clee wouldn't have made much of a difference, I'm afraid to say his time at this level has come to an end imo. How long ago is it since he's been 100% fit for a reasonable amount of time. This is a big Summer whatever happens, for a decent overhaul of the squad, we have some high earners who will be leaving us so all sorts of possibilities.

Thought like others it was a poor game today, both teams were poor. Find if frustrating to watch and why DR is not starting I do not know. We looked marginally better when he was on, but we need more creativity from somewhere. Bit of luck as well to get a win. lets hope it comes on Tuesday.

I disagree. I thought we looked worse when he came on. This is not a criticism of Damian at all before you all start kicking off. The fact is, when Crowther came off we went incredibly narrow and therefore went long ball which made us worse as McCombe and Pilkington were more than equal to the aerial challenge and had Rankine in their pocket all game. He should have been brought off instead, keeping the width and letting Reeves run in behind.

I agree, I was hoping we would have taken Rankine off, he was well marshalled, didn't look 100% and we kept looping balls up to him to ill effect

Lee and Neil will I'm certain be more frustrated than anyone why we can't turn these draws into wins, but there isn't a simple answer. They are working with both injury and financial constraints and are doing what they can. Iits crazy to want to sack the manager, let's all get behind the team and see where we are at the end of April. Who knows you may get your wish then? Let's hope you give the next manager whoever he may be more of a chance.
