Not the easiest start to season.
Thompson
Senior Mularkey Hannigan Fitzpatrick
Moult Pringle
Mooney Kosylo Colclough
Dinanga
This an educated guess on my behalf.
Torquay 2-1 Alty (Peers)
-
Thompson
Senior Mullarkey Hannigan Fitzpatrick
Moult
Kirby Pringle
Kosylo Dinanga Colclough
Mooney will be really unfortunate not to start but Kosylo and Senior down the right has to happen, and if RC is fit, he's starting.
Very promising but unfortunate 1-0 defeat.

We salute the already over 100 Alty fans making the journey from all points in the UK and a signal box in Devon (with sandwiches)
-
Don't forget the ham and pickle sandwiches Harold!!
-
no butties for me this saturday, will have lunch at home and then leave to drive the 30 odd miles down to the ground. No longer in the signalbox retired 7 years ago now. Will be two of us at Weymouth (in Novemeber)that worked Crediton signalbox as my mate wants to come and watch Alty.
-
Quite like the look of Andrew Flynn's 433 but I can't see PP going with that formation yet.
Obviously, goals will be the problem and for that reason I can see us being beaten. However, it's worth noting that Torquay have lost quite a few key players.

I'd like to think that's the team.... With Tom coming on late on to nick the winner! 😉
-
Think team could be...
Thompson
Senior Mullarkey Hannigan Fitzpatrick
Moult Pringle
Mooney/Kosylo Hancock Colclough
Dinanga
NB can't make mind up between Mooney/Kosylo... normally would say Kosylo should start but Mooney's pre-season form & goals means i think i would plump for him (otherwise Mooney would be very unlucky not to start)...
Subs: Kirby, Williams, Kosylo, Peers, Leitch-Smith
Score prediction: Torquay 1-1 ALTY (Mooney)
COYR! :)

Don't forget the ham and pickle sandwiches Harold!!
Harold's retired now, it'll be a few rich tea biscuits wrapped in clingfilm, a packet of Werthers and a home prepared flask of tea.

I am hoping to make Weymouth Harold. Also going to Wealdstone next month..

I reckon playing a fancied team is no bad thing to kick off the season.
The result could go well for us.
Personally I would be a happy with a draw.
I assume that the lads will be travelling tomorrow and staying over.
If any fans are going by car, leave in plenty of time, the M5 South has had 2 hour delays over the last few weeks thru Avon & Somerset due to pure volume of Grockles heading to Cornwall & Devon on holiday..

Gary Johnson pre game interview

I see Lee Johnson's dad managed to mention Altrincham this time. I wonder if Torquay'll be non-league for years...

will be good to see you Ray.
sunshine and showers for this saturday after heavy rain around 12 noon
-
Superb result … what a start to the season
Well done lads
Onwards and upwards.
-
Superb win today, well done to all the lads. Glad to see the supporters getting this reward for undertaking such a long distance journey. Congratulations to the club and thanks to Radio Robins.

Ditto

Fantastic.
Congratulations everybody.
-
Yep, well done to all involved today. An unlikely 3 points and an even more unlikely 3 goals!!!
-
Happy Happy Birthday to me!
thank you for making this an extra special special day for me! 😉

Don't look back Dinanaga !

Don't look back Dinanaga !
Are you here all night?
-
Excellent result and i believe well deserved.
Gutted no game Saturday, but we will be fresher than Halifax.
Only concern is the Fitzpatrick injury. Bit thin on the ground for full backs
-
we never looked like losing, the whole team were fantastic, tom and toby won everything that came into our box.Moony as soon as he was able to run at Moxey we were 1 up and never looked back,Not sure who scored their goal,it was given as an own goal.crowd was really noisey and out sang the Torquay fans. Nice cuppa in the ground also.

The ever-magnanimous Gary Johnson is duly impressed by the quality of Alty's timewasting:

He sounds a right cockney tosser.
He should learn how to put a tie on the scruffy T**t.

Heard worse interviews, but he really does come across as a bit of a bumbler and unprepared. I'd not swap PP for him.
-
Fantastic performance , everybody played well but I thought Tom Hannigan and Connor Kirby were absolutely brilliant. Think Connor must have run the equivalent of a marathon today.
-
Altrincham controlled and dictated the game for the majority of the afternoon. He’s always been a bitter bastard
-
Always good to hear a Gary Johnson interview after a defeat when he can't bear to mention the opposition by name.
Discussing the match after the game, we all had a different man of the match (Connor Kirby for me) which must be a sign of an excellent all-round team perfornance.
-
I can't make it until Halifax. Fingers crossed they can keep theier heads together
-
The trouble with older managers like Johnson is that they've started to run out of ideas and enthusiasm (think Jim Harvey). Torquay will probably get shut of him a dozen matches in when they realise that the Promised Land will remain tantalisingly out of reach again unless new ideas come into play.

"We was getting crosses in!"
Who does he think he is; Dean Saunders?
And looking at John Laidlaw's site; "Devon Live" were just as bitter!
-
Here's my favourite sentence from John Laidlar's match report on his The Alty Files website:
"After a brief but bizarre stoppage to remove an errant orange from the pitch, play resumed (12 mins) with Torquay pressing."

They should have pressed us instead of the orange, then Johnson wouldn't have got the pip....

Stop taking the pith out of Johnson.

they were eggs that were thrown over the away terrace end, about 4 in total,no oranges

You could see it clearly from the back of our section. A group of about 3 kids on bikes rode up to the back fence of the empty away terrace and tried to lob some eggs and fruit onto the pitch, most just landed on the roof but a couple got through to the pitch as TT was about to take a goal kick, very bizarre.
As for the game, that was a textbook away display by us, score early, take your chances and then professionally see the game out. Our ‘management’ (ie time wasting) of the game infuriated the Torquay fans which I think is a good sign of how we are growing at this level. Only shame Fitzpatrick had to come off early as he was looking good but I saw he walked onto the coach after the game so assume he’ll be fine for Halifax. Our support fantastic too, good numbers and very vocal. The race meeting in Newton Abbot meant it was lively locally too so cracking day out all told.

the commentary between Mark Simpson and Flynny on RR was great fun too!

Odd that the highlights don’t show any of our time wasting that apparently won us the match. It’s almost as if what happened while the ball was in play is all that really matters. Perhaps their manager should have a word…..
-
Based on the highlights Torquay got off lightly.
-
Great highlights amazing result well done lads !!
-
Looks like TT has had one save to make all game. Top performance. Hope we can sustain the same form through the season..

Maybe they should have a highlights package concentrating on the "game management"?
I remember the footage from the 0-0 draw at Cambridge United when they missed out on promotion - Stuart Coburn taking his time at goal kicks was probably the best part of it!

A great reward for the travellers, great numbers too. 120 plus
Come on Alty
-
The match report on the Torquay website states 140 away fans.

I would say that was the most we've taken there, even more than the first ever visit.
-
Have they ever actually taken that many to Moss Lane? :)

With Torquay conceding an average of practically 3 goals a game (even when they won at Maidenhead) maybe my estimate of "a dozen games" was too generous. If they lose at home to struggling Southend, their next match being at Chesterfield, he'll be lucky to make it into October.
