Title: BREAKING NEWS - the 1st of many this season!!!!
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on September 28, 2008, 08:59:37 PM
BREAKING NEWS-------------BREAKING NEWS---------------------BREAKING NEWS------------------BREAKING NEWS

Taken from conference forum

Histon Football Club are rumoured to be in financial meltdown and on the verge of entering administration after losses of over a quarter of a million pounds were revealed.

The Cambridgeshire based side, who have sent shock waves through non-league football with their meteoric rise over the last few years, currently sit in 9th place in the Blue Square Premier League just a point off the play offs positions.

The club sustained losses of over a quarter of a million for the year ending May 2008 on a turnover of less than £400k per annum. With assets amounting to just £21,000 and key sponsors pulling out due to the current economic climate the club faces a worrying time ahead.

Despite the Stutes great start to the current season average attendances are down by over 25% and less than 600 people paid to watch their last home game.

Goalkeeping coach Lance Key was made redundant last week while it's understood players wages for September have not been paid.

A crisis board meeting is understood to have been called for Tuesday this week when a decision will be made as to whether or not the club will seek to appoint administrators. Nobody at the club was available for comment.

I do hope that some of our number don't start coming on here being all self righteous and holier than thou about this.

We should have sympathy with the supporters rather than gloating which, sadly, is the normal response of some people.

The Supporters will probably have had nothing to do with the Financial problems assailing Histon so to gloat is unfair

I blame the fans, it's all their fault.

FFS!  ::)

Are Histon properly part time or Vics part time?

Guttted for the fans, and for the players and club officials.

The real shame is how familiar this whole scenario is becoming. The fact that ATS points out some fans 'usual response' just goes to show this is happening too often.

I hope they manage to slash their playing budget etc and survive the season. Cant see AFC Histon being a realistic option here.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Put it this way ... if the banks have ran out of money we may finish 4th bottom this year and start in the Premership next season ;)

The way things are going, we won't just clear the relegation zone, we'll be heading for the play-offs!  :D

I can see it now... Alty beat 4 nil in play offs but are promoted any way due to opposition going bust.

Ironically we are probably one of the most finacially sound clubs in any leauge !! ( bar City and Chelski) lol

A nice feeling :D

Don't want it to happen to other clubs (not even Oxford really). Sadly, I expect it to happen. We're very lucky really that we got our debts paid off in time.

Anf Hughesy, just out of interest what have you got against Chicken super noodles, which have been left out?  :)

Perish the thought of anyone acting holier than thou........

Who gloats as a usual response when a club has problems?...name names!

I thought it was the supporters fault so eternal thanks to ATS for putting me straight on that one.

Oh we're up to our necks in gloaters herre...can we come in for a gloat they say and  We say OH YO0U HEARTLESS GLOATERS!!!
(just to cheer Gaz up this Monday am)

It's nothing to do with gloating, it's just a case of disillusion with clubs who refuse to live within their means!

Guttted for the fans, and for the players and club officials.

I'm not. The fans enjoy the ride, players don't give a toss and the club officials cause it. And that's in general rather than Histon specifically. It's a natural end (although I think this is a bit of a myth actually) rather than somewhere where people have genuinely been scrwed over.

Personally, I don't give a sh*t about Histon or clubs that find themselves in this position.

Actually, that's a bit harsh I do feel a slight pang of concern I just think I disagree with the automatic response that we all feel for the fans of the club etc and oothers. It's bollocks.

Its not bollocks on my part thanks. Im genuinely gutted for them.

If you support the club or work for it, be it as a player or secretary whatever, its not your doing when some deluded tit comes along with a 5 year plan for greatness and then gets bored and scared because the price of petrol has doubled, or because they forget that the plan has to be renewed. We could make a long list of clubs who await the same conclusion in the near future, fortunately we wont be on it and I celebrate that fact.

Do you think these clubs will learn from their mistakes and stop spending more than they can afford.

How many clubs will have to crash out of business because they've overspent and not been sensible about money before the people in charge (The league/the FA etc) actually do something about it?  ???

It's so bad for football and it's got to the stage where it's beyond ridiculous

I'm so glad we have sensible people in charge of our club - it's better to see us struggling but trying hard and surviving whilst living within our means than seeing us  right at the top but knowing that the money will run out

To be honest I think the clubs need to take responsibility. I'm glad that clubs are left to run themselves as they see fit. If they don't control spending then they'll go bust/get a points deduction/get thrown out of the league. That's the way it should be and that's why our board should be commended, we've been run correctly and as a result remain not only in existence but in the top tier of non-league football.

I do agree that clubs shouldn't be interfered with, it just seems to have got so out of hand, it seems like there's another club in trouble every week.  Surely at some point people will see sense!

Yep. And we'd all be supporting Vics if Alty had gone under!  I think NOT.
