Title: Supporters Team - Tournament
Post by: bumble on July 18, 2016, 10:09:10 AM
We're travelling the short distance to Preston this weekend to take part in our 3rd successive WorldNet.

WorldNet is an annual tournament that has run every year since 1996 to bring together fans to play competitive, yet friendly, games of football. Organised by the IFA (Internet Football Association). It takes place at UCLAN sports arena. The group stage takes place on Saturday with the knock out rounds commencing on Sunday.

Our group this year contains Sheffield United, Ipswich, Barnsley and Southampton.

As well as this annual tournament, we take part in the IFA League and Cup playing friendly matches against other groups of fans. This season we played 12 games. There is no requirement to play every game, so if you fancy a regular 11-a-side match that fits around your schedule, and you're an alty fan, send me a PM or speak to us on match days.

We also have a weekly kick about on Monday nights - usually 7/8 a side - at Timperley Astro which you can attend as frequently or infrequently as you like.

Sadly, we fell short but a massively improved tournament performance.

We finished 3rd in the group winning 2 games and losing 2 with 2 clean sheets. A late goal meant not finishing 2nd.

This meant for the first time we qualified for the major competition alongside 16 other clubs inlcuding 4 premier league sides and 5 championship sides.

We faced Runcorn and lost on penalities 4-2 after keep quiet the golden boot winner. Runcorn then lost in the final.Runcorn had a 23 man squad vs our depleted 11 fit players.

After finished bottom in our group the past 2 years this was a far better showing.

As always still looking for players to join us, please don't worry about fitness or ability. We'll welcome anybody down who supports the club and has a good attitude.
