Altrincham FC First Team / Fao: Alty Beer Boys
« on: December 07, 2008, 07:52:48 PM »
Next Saturday you are at home (I think) and we are at Northwich in the FA Trophy.

Don't think much of a day out in Northwich to be honest, so I am planning to roll into sunny Altrincham for a few pints on the way there and on the way back. I think I will be getting in at 10 past 11 on the Metrolink and will have until 1.51pm before the train goes to Northwich from Altrincham which should leave plenty of time to get to their ground. I expect that the Porterhouse will be the first port of call as I am a lazy b*stard and my York scarf is on the wall (for good luck - we need it).

Likewise on the way back there is a 17.31 getting into Alty at 17.56 for post-match beverages.

So, Hughesy, Ballers, Gaz Warrington, Jimmy and the usual suspects, if you're up for a couple of sherberts then let's 'ave it as we've not done any beers since pre-season at Stalybridge. It is a unique opportunity for some pisstake seeing as you are above us in the league for a change!!!

I'll send you a brief guide via PM when I have a bit more time, York is full of restaurants these days, they seem to be opening all the time so it's hard to keep up!

You are seriously considering missing York v Alty here in the home of the Christmas Card picture scene?

You must be mad, you won't get a better away day this season than that. The atmosphere round town is rocking, the pubs fantastic, the people jolly and the opportunities for a great time boundless.

I think you should be kinder to fans of other clubs and should really be buying them beers and stuff, especially at Christmas time when it's "goodwin to all men".

Was thinking of coming along seeing as we went out of the cup last night, but as I can't find any train tickets cheaper than £80 (!) I think I'll give it a miss!

somebody should tell mr morton that blue star HAVE appeared in first round before

They have indeed and on York City TV in the Social Club bar at our home game with Mansfield Town we will be showing a piece from November 1984 when Newcastle Blue Star came and played York in the FA Cup 1st Round, the home side winning 2-0. Has shots of the players pre-match journey and meal and all sorts! Classic tash and mullet job from the Blue Star manager!

Nice one Phil, see your name in the program every week!

I am Yorklass74's fella from Red and Blue and a proper Alty fan! If you ever need a lift let me know, good win for York this weekend too

Dave

Nice one Dave, we'll have to meet up for a pint when our paths next cross. Seems to be a few Alty living in the York area, there's certainly a few York living over there.

You think those grapes are sour, you should read what I am going to write when you beat us!

Fair play, another good result for you today. Was going to come along but my liver is currently sitting in a jar at the end of my bed with a sign saying "do not touch until tomorrow" written on it.

I might come along to the game if I can get out of bed in time and don't feel too hungover.

Can I have discount?

The failure of Clayton Donaldson should be a sobering lesson to any player who has a greedy agent whispering in his ear.

I can't say I'm sorry to be honest.

Is the game segregated?

If so, you won't be allowed in their social club until after the match.

There's that crappy snooker hall in the corner near the away turnstiles, but we usually go down the road to the Kingfield Arms.

Why the boo??? He's a (tiny) legend  ;D  Don't get many strikers who'll score 9 in 4, even against the likes of Abbey Hey/Trafford/Staylybrige/FC Utd...

January 2nd 2004
York City 0 Scarborough 2 (Senior 85, Hackworth 90)

That's why the "boo!".

Thanks for the usual hospitality yesterday, it was a cracking day out in Stalybridge, which had a lot more going for it as a place than I expected.

As for the match I thought that both sides were poor in the first half and wasn't particularly impressed with the supposedly "much improved" Alty side - disappointing that Meechan got injured and that Lee Elam didn't show a bit more. Gave him a little jibe about "£500 a week for that?" when he crossed from a good position onto the terrace instead of into the box, apologies for that, I have a poor level of self-control!

Second half was a different story from an Alty point of view and, while Stalybridge were absolutely abject, the introduction of Joe O'Neill (hooray!), Chris Senior (boo!) and this new lad Johnson changed the whole outlook and generally the team lifted the level way beyond poor old Staly.

My prediction is bottom half from Alty this season, but nowhere near relegation. That said, it's only one game, so I'm probably talking bollocks.

I notice that a Barrow player was really badly injured yesterday at Kendal and obviously yesterday Meechan had to be helped off and Greg Young's face was a bit of a mess - you have to wonder if friendlies against lesser "rival" opposition are a good idea? It's good preparation I suppose but it seems to come at a high price. If it was up to me I would organise friendlies against fellow BSP teams so that both have an equal amount to gain and to lose by playing.

Cheers anyway, good luck for the start of the season.
