Crowds
« on: March 31, 2008, 11:13:52 AM »

After Saturdays turnout, I'm pleased to say that Alty will average over 1000 for the season once again.  Over 23,000 have watched our first 22 home games, so even if no-one turns up for the Salisbury match we will break the barrier once again - just shows how far we have come since the sub 500 gates in the last season in the NPL - and how much we've got to lose if we fall out of the conference.

Scary that there are a few 'full time' clubs that have not got as many through the gates as us.
Another reason why the wage cap is utter b*llocks.

Any evidence of the home support increasing, or is the increase only due to visiting supporters?

Our average gate so far is 1055 which is about 10% down on last season.

I think the gates might actually rise if we are going to have a boxing match after each game!!!!!!!!!

I think our home support has held up pretty well when you consider how bad we were at home uuntil the new year.

I agree with Gary, it sounds odd but I would say the away support has been much lower than last year.

I'd say the usual (not average ) home turnout is more like 800-825 now as opposed to 575-600 in the Unibond/ Conf N.

Averages are not the best measure, unusually large gates, eg FGR v Oxford, Weymouth v Torquay/Exeter influence those, although to be realistic we are not significantly affected by Vics, etc gates etc like this. Sadly we missed on home league gates V Chester, Shrewsbury previously and hopefully not next season v Wrexham.

There are two main reasons we are down 10% on last season, the loss of southport and morecambe.

Also the thinking of some conference fans is baffling, they will travel in their droves to stafford as its a "midlands game" but wont come the 40 minutes further to altrincham because its "miles away up north" this is shown in the 500+ that have been from oxford to stafford on a couple of occasions, yet we get half that number, and the 342 that travelled from torquay to stafford a couple of weeks back was down by  at least 150 on their visit to moss lane.
