"It was just two world class players going for a 50/50 ball."

John King's description of a crunching tackle on Ossie Ardiles in the FA Cup Third Round tie at White Hart Lane: 10th January 1979.

I know saying anything negative about Duncan is seen on here as treason. But surely it's about time he stopped emerging and emerged. Rooney was the best player at a better club when he was 15. Duncan is 20 now. How much longer will it take him to become a first team regular.

I don't think it's Duncan as such but Sunderland are wasting him by playing him in an under 21 side and buying loads of foreign players for millions of pounds. It doesn't work and is why England struggle. In the old days clubs only bought players when they were ready to play them. imo.

Worth considering that Dunc's football development may be behind that of the Rooneys of this world because he will have been concentrating far more on his education.

The way I understood it was that part of Duncan's arrangement with Sunderland was that that he'd be able to complete his degree. He surely can't train every day if that's the case. If you leave school at 14 with no CSEs you can probably embark on your full-time football career straightaway.
