Some peoples favourite Referee, Amy Fearns ,nee Rayner, made history last night as the first woman to referee a Football League fixture when she replaced Tony Bates at Coventry City after 71 minutes.
-
she got a load of wolf whistles unsurprisingly
-
I hope she's spending today catching up on the housework.

Bloody hell, it's normally the ref that needs specs...

At the risk of being horribly misconstrued when Mrs Fearn is not in her Referees Kit she is actually very presentable

Horses for courses...

I don't think the photo posted does her any favours ? ::)

Horse being the operative word ;D
-
personally i'd rather she kept her kit on.
-
good luck to her.
taking on a refs job means she's got balls...

This is what happens when being politically correct is more important than fairness.
This woman's performance at Ebbsfleet last season was abysmal and comical and I dont think there was anyone among the Alty fans at that game that was not in hysterics laughing at her decisions - and she cost us at least a point.
Of course no one took this issue up with the Conference/Referee's body and she obviously got a tick, even though her performance was inept and unacceptable. So promotion is her reward for being incompetant.
And ATS came on this forum and defended her performance that night - And I was later told he wasnt even at the match!!!!
-
i thought she was the 4th official coming on for an injury so I'm not 1005%sure she's been promoted. could well be wrong though.
we all have bad days Redhill - I have bad days every week day - over the season did she show enough to justify a move up? unless you've seen most of her games it's pretty tough to make that decision.

Think you'll find that I DID NOT defend her performance on that specific match, mainly because, as you quite correctly identified, I wasn't there to see it.
I did what i would do under any circumstance and attempted maybe to explain the why's and wherefores of certain decisions as well as expressing my general support for a fellow official and my more specific support for someone who is still battling more than just the same system that we all do.
Incidentally Mr Redhill, have you always been absolutely and totally 100% faultless in everything you have done? You appear to expect this from the current Mrs Fearn or is it more of an issue of her gender?

In her defense, she is no worse than some male Conference refs (Joyce, who will somehow make it to the top level I think) so why not give her a chance. And when she gives a poor performance, she is usually bad for both sides, as she was at Ebbsfleet the other week.

She wasn't fourth Official on the game but the more senior of the two Assistant Referees and therefore the one who was identified as the replacement should the Referee become unable to continue.
-
good enough for me ATS - thanks for clearing that up.
give her a chance, we have seen some dross refs, opening up the role to 50% of the population has to be a good thing.
-
Let her have a go I say, as long as she has a whistle and stuff.
A woman drove a bus past me the other day. They're getting everywhere...

Was she on fire? :o :D

We're all human and prone to making mistakes. Fair play to her!
