Might aswell start it early, considering how important the game is.
I think Gyasi and Linney will be cup tied...?
Byrne
Welch-Hayes J.Jones Baines E.Jones
Marriott Lundstram
Kaja Cashman Sinclair
Hulme
Subs Pringle, Hugill, Quitirna, ( defender) & Oyedele/Osborne
I think we can actually have more than 5 subs
-
Given the importance of this tie, I would hope Gould is on the bench
A physical challenge, collision with a player or post, a red card for Byrne and it could be a long afternoon

Very good point for this game .

Chesterfield put out a much weakened side in their sole Trophy game, a defeat by Coalville Town, and Gyasi wasn't in the squad - so he should be available.

Gyasi played in the Trophy when on loan at Gloucester.

Gyasi is cup-tied for next Saturday's FA Trophy tie, having played for Gloucester City in their 5-1 defeat at Gateshead:

Two of us going on the day, I'm sure Parky will play the best 11 available. Good opportunity to progress with the right attitude of approach.
-
Agree the team in the opening post aside from Byrne.
Its a decent 11 either way and should have enough to progress.
Bracknell 1-2 Alty (Kaja Baines)
-
I see the club have put a coach on for this at £35 a seat, info on the website

I’ll add this is the biggest game of the season to date and latter stage trophy games don’t come around too often so if you can get there then do it
-
Byrne
Welch-Hayes J.Jones Baines E.Jones
Marriott Lundstram
Osborne Cashman Sinclair
Hulme
Subs pringle, Kaja, Gould, Oyedele Junior
plus 2 others.
Fitness aside, I'd play the same side as Wrexham.

Good shout that Hashtag, Don't think it will be far from that team/squad.

Are we allowed to have seven loans in the squad? (admitted only three in the starting line up) I thought the rules said only five (could be wrong!)

Not sure if applies for the FA Trophy, hopefully the club know

Think it applies to all FA competitions as it's an FA rule not National League

As I understand it the rule is that a maximum of 5 loan players may enter the field of play. If I'm right, you could have more in the squad provided you were VERY careful with your substitions. Not ideal though.
-
It says max 5 on the team sheet. I'm guessing the team sheet includes subs?

Imagine we may see the bench containung a reserve or youth player

I think it’s 5 in the match day squad. Admittedly I’m taking that from my experience playing football manager and trying to put a 6th loanee on the bench but given the attention to detail they put in that I suspect it’s a reliable source!
-
So, to be clear, we're going to have to put a couple of contracted players on the bench instead of a couple of loans.
As said above, it will probably be a couple of youngsters.
There'll still be plenty of firepower and experience on the bench.

Our starting XL against Wrexham should be enough
Can still only make 3 subs

Well, if we can field 40 players, I would expect us to take the tie to penalties at the very least.

Just my opinion and in the 1st half Osborne did OK but can't be sacrificing one of the decent wingers for him and Cashman needs to be our no.10.
As Parky said on Radio Alty ( top interview by the way ) we still lost to Wrexham.
Sinclair should keep his place. Kaja or Junior out wide would be a much better selection in my opinion.

Bracknell playing Tiverton Town Tuesday night… I’m guessing that’s Phil & Neil’s night out sorted!

Yep, they said yesterday, well Phil did, he and Neil are going to watch Bracknell as we have little intel on them.

Seat on coach booked and online ticket purchased really looking forward to this one hopefully a good turn out from the Alty faithful would be fantastic if we can get 200 plus down there a fantastic opportunity to progress to the quarter finals I am sure PP and NS will do their homework on them tonight stay professional for the full 90 minutes and I am sure we will be to strong for them.
Prediction 3-1 to Alty.
Hopefully 200 plus following making a right noise.

Its going to be reallt important to try and back together for this one. The noise is going to be so important. Even when its a bit nervy.
-
0-0 HT, 0-3 FT
James Jones from a corner just after the break settles our nerves.
Jordan Hulme grabs a deserved goal after 60 minutes of wrestling their defenders.
Egli Kaja wraps it up from the bench with 5 to go.
-
Just bought 2 tickets, numbered 184/185 so assume that's adult ticket sales to date.

Hmm, the time at Italia 90 when Gary Lineker put all his penalties in the same corner in training knowing someone from Cameroon was watching springs to mind. I wonder if Bracknell might possibly try and keep something back from us...

It would be great to break the 200 barrier of travelling Alty fans!

I dont care how it happens, but this is a must win. I still remember the gut punch of Bath Citys goal at the same stage in 2015.

In tribute to the great man instead of the come on alty chant.
Should be
Johnny kings red and white Army followed immediately by parkinsons red and white army and so on.

Just read on the official site that there is no restriction on the number of loans in a matchday squad in the FA Trophy. Could this mean a change in the some peoples team predictions?

Looking at the other teams left in this competition I think that it is our best chance to win it in many years.

Looking back we owe you a debt
We cannot repay and we will not forget
Johnny you're the one
Can't believe you're gone
You're the King of Altrincham

Brilliant 🤩

Looking at the other teams left in this competition I think that it is our best chance to win it in many years.
It just seems so obvious that we'll blow it.
They'll really fancy this based on our form and theirs.
Lack of replay plays into their hands too - if we got them back to our place, I'd fancy our chances more than a shootout on the actual day.
-
After witnessing our last two recent shoot out triumphs, I humbly beg to differ.
PS. I suspect it won't get to that however (one way or another) 😉
-
I've got very little reason for saying this (given I don't know anything about them or indeed a great deal about a number of our lads) but I do think we'll win this if for no other reason than, we are higher in the food chain than they are.
-
There seems a lot of negative thoughts around the result. I believe our recent signings promise good things and I think we will be too strong for them
-
Perhaps this is the first time we can really use our full time status and find ourselves the fitter team in the last twenty minutes?
One thing is certain; we will have to be 100% on our game, no complacency.
-
I'm growing in bullishness actually and, as you say, we really need to focus and bring our top game to the encounter but assuming we do we should be in the last eight this time tomorrow. 🤞🏆
-
We will win 4-1
-
We will win 4-1
Didn't someone on here, many moons ago, always predict that we'd win by that score and never got it right?
Let's hope you do! 👍🎯

Good old Vicky!
Who's that idiot in the shorts falling over on the Carsville?
-
Sorry if I missed this being confirmed elsewhere, but I see the match preview states we can use as many loanees as we like in the FA Trophy.
Will be interesting to see whether we stick with the Wrexham team or bring anyone in.
-
Yes. It was mentioned on the main site a couple of days ago. I remarked on it on page three of this thread in light of the fact that, as I understand it, only cup-tied players (Gyasi and Linney) are barred from playing, perhaps team predictions might be modified. It wasn't taken up.
We'll soon know now! 😉
-
Kaja in for Osborne, which I suspect is probably what the majority of fans would have liked to go for.
Quitirna on the bench - hope we get to see him.
-
Kaja in for Osbourne the only change from last weeks starting 11

Hope Quitirna has got his paperwork sorted. We don't want another James Robinson scenario do we? 🤞

What is the team please

It's on twitter.
Same starting 11 as vs Wrexham except Kaja for Osborne.
-
2-0! 😉 Fantastic!
Also Duncan scores on his debut for Millwall.

Looking good so far - just need to hold it together for another 45.

YESSSS! 3-1
-
Great result. Job done - and glad it was a two goal cushion or we'd have never heard the end of that Bracknell goal that wasn't given. Alty fans in great voice too.
-
Dodged a bullet there….phew!! Ref sounded poor…..we benefit from a “ghost “ goal there.
-
Excellent result.
Safe trip back.

I concur. Eye of newt and toe of frog came to mind.
-
Looked like we were in for a comfortable afternoon after the first goal - but we were pretty dreadful for the most part after that, they showed why they score plenty of goals, their 7, 9 and 11 all looked dangerous.
How that goal of theirs wasn't given, I'll never know - didn't it hit the roof of the net after the bounce?
Maxi Oyedele looked a class act when he came on.
Anyone could win it from here on in - let's hope we get a decent draw and not something like Aldershot away.
-
A good but hard listen with all the crowd around. That screechy woman was very irritating.
Agreed. It was like being held captive in Guantanamo Bay and tortured with recordings of one of those dreadful women from Birds Of A Feather.
After a desperately sad week for the club, it was a blessed relief to finish it on a happier note, especially in a competition which was so close to John King's heart.
-
Well done lads. Top result.
-
Just got back. Difficult bobbly pitch, spongy as hell so not really suiting our football style. Thought we started well and good goal by Sinclair. They responded, good strike of the bar, I was stood at that end and couldn't tell it crossed the line. The referee was 40 yards away and liner was midway down the line, so would never be given if did go in. Luckily Ollie picked lose ball up as there striker was going to pounce, we then go down other end and score. Good stuff.
Second half thought we were poor, they got a lucky deflection for a goal. We then had a couple of attacks and got it too 3-1 with Quintara scoring.
Pleased were in the last 8
-
The pitch looked short as well as bobbly - there really wasn't much room to play. I didn't think that the passing game really got together. We were easily the better side until they hit the bar (consensus seems to be it was well over the line), after which we seemed unable to string passes together. We looked a bit like a team that didn't know each other too well...
Although we weren't great, there was a good double save by their keeper from Jordan at the end of the first half, and Jordan had a really good chance, not quite dinking over the advancing keeper, early in the second. They had more territory, but I'd say we had much better chances. Wasn't an easy watch after they got one back - looked like a mis-hit shot to me - but it's hard to say they didn't deserve a goal.
As has been mentioned, Maxi looked a class apart when he came on. One of those players who looks like he has much more time than anyone else. We need to make the most of having him - he's too good to be back next season.
Job done. Not a great performance, but a good result. And nice to see two new goalscorers.
-
Well done lads, our first Trophy q-f this century !!! ( Boston 0-2 in 99 ) . Big shout out to the brilliant away support too 👏 Home draw now please , Farsley would be ok 🤞
-
We will win 4-1
Close but no cigar. I'll take it though!
Genuinely perplexed about that Bracknell "goal" in the first half. I saw the net ripple and everything!

Gave me flashbacks of my ex!

Sounded like we got away with that one a bit, but our extra class told.
Barnet our biggest remaining threat, though Gateshead could be a bugger!

Armando Quitima Junior, according to the team sheet, though the website has it as Quitirna, so presumably the person who did the team sheet misread the name.

And that's exactly the sort of reason why we shouldn't have goal line technology.
Seriously though, they were discussing on MOTD tonight how video game referees who don't understand football are making wrong decisions. And of course sometimes the technology knackers up, as with the sub at Stevenage a few years back. Mistakes are a part of football, why not just have the referee making them?
-
According to the NLP, our two unused subs were called Simpson and Dixon!
I suppose United could have lent us a couple more? 🙄😂
What an error-strewn periodical it is.
PS. I only buy it when we win! 😉

I'm in the red coat on far side. I wasn't sure it had crossed the line, linesman was running, so no way he'd be sure. Even from that picture, not sure 100% over line, great shot, unlucky it didnt stay in. Fine margins. We've had a few ourselves like this. Great talking point.
-
It's over the line.
Names' on the Throphy.
Anyone at home (except Gateshead)
-

I'll grant that it wasn't as easy for the referee/assistant to spot as it was for everyone behind the goal, but it was 100% in. It's touching the side netting and there's at least one square of the net between it and the goal line.
-
Sorry Ollies dad, but thats quite cringe to request.
Ollie was well beaten by a cracking effort. The photo is real. Did the ball 100% cross the line, it looked it, and the photos show that.
I'm sure moat refs would and should give that but the ref had a mare yesterday.
-
All getting a bit weird now. Pat Bracknell on the head, take the W & onto Bromley on Tuesday night.
I see the gate given as 516 too which is a bit poor given we had 150-200 there apparently but for the smaller teams you can understand a bit of a fiddle on the gate receipts for the big occasion.
-

The referee would only award a goal if he was absolutely certain that the whole of the ball crossed the whole of the line. Watching the short video clip on Twitter l don't see how any ref would give a goal in that situation.
-
Seen the video and no way could it have been given. Seen the photo and it defo crossed the line so we got away with one.
As for the 'fake' picture, no words
-

Indeed, of all the mistakes made or goals that have gone past Ollie Byrne this season that one was absolutely unstoppable and most keepers wouldn’t have stood a chance.
What’s the problem?
-
Trying to do his lad a favour and it’s actually having the complete reverse effect. Utter nonsense and quite sad. It was unstoppable, nothing Ollie could do.
-
Am I mistaken that the ball appears to strike the bar, not only once, but twice, in the video clip on twitter? It was a cracking shot and was really travelling when it hit the bar and came down to earth. It is impossible to tell from the clip whether the ball was completely over the line or not from the video footage. It all happened too quickly. The still picture is a screenshot taken from a video clip (possibly the same one on Twitter) and it shows signs of the distortion that often occurs when an attempt is made to 'freeze' the moment. I strongly contest that the still image is completely unreliable.
Returning to the video image, I personally find this to be the more accurate evidence, and I am sure that the ball struck the underside edge of the bar and crashed to the ground before rebounding upwards again hitting the outside edge of the bar and projecting outwards for Ollie to make a comfortable catch.
As for the net rippling, I agree that there was movement of the net, but this is not to be unexpected when the woodwork is struck so heavily that the goalposts judder causing the movement of the nets that was observed.
I am not convinced it was a goal. I find it difficult to imagine the ball bending outwards from the perpendicular to hit the bar a second time if it had crossed the line.
-
Definitely comes off the bar twice, how I’m not sure. No official could be expected to make an assured judgement on that with the speed etc, just glad they don’t have VAR in the Southern League!
-
Downloaded the videos, looked frame by frame, not a fake pic. Also, you need to look frame by frame so that tells you the margins.
Really odd rock to die on from ollie's dad.
-
Given the net ripple, I'd assumed (from the other end of the ground) that the ball had struck the underside of the bar, bounced back up and hit the roof of the net inside the bar - hence why I was certain it was a goal.
It appears now that it struck the bar again and bounced out - the sheer power on the strike must have moved the netting around. That said, it still bounced behind the line.
Many of us were shown an image of the ball clearly behind the line whilst the game was still in progress - it's highly unlikely the image would have been altered in that timeframe.

I am not convinced it was a goal. I find it difficult to imagine the ball bending outwards from the perpendicular to hit the bar a second time if it had crossed the line.
Simple science really though, hence why we see it happen (Lampard, England world cup final etc).
If the ball strikes the underside of the bar from a reasonably lateral angle (i.e. from somewhere out on the pitch), the part of the ball that hits the bar is largely the upper side - therefore it will 'roll' across the underside of the bar and be set into a backwards direction of rotation - and often quite a rapid one.
Hence why it comes back out.

Great win for the lads . Wembley here we come

any thoughts on the game as someone who went?

A still taken directly from the higher res version of the video below. Definitely not a fake - but absolutely no criticism of Ollie or the officials. Impossible to save and impossible for the ref to give it from the speed it all happened and the angle and distance they saw it from.

I thought we were the better side for the first half with a reverse scenario in the second half
They were no mugs and you can see why they are doing so well
I think the game came at a good time for us with so many new faces and gives them more time to gell
See you Tuesday x

Jordan looked to be holding his hamstring towards the end, will be interesting to see if he's fully fit on Tuesday or whether we have to put Regan Linney straight in.
Surely these other United lads have to feature at some point too - otherwise what's the point in the loan deal?
Would be keen to see more of Maxi Oyedele.
-
I would have thought that if we plan to play two number tens, as we did against Wrexham, he'd be a good fit for partnering Cashman.

Not really for this post but just read Coco was a sub again yesterday only came on after 75 mins? Must be tough for the lad after being number 1 on the team sheet for us

Be just as tough next season when Toby's marking him twice a year in the NL.

By all accounts, Toby has been impressive for Rochdale. Hope we got a decent sell on fee in there!

Imagine his agent sees Rochdale as a stepping stone - even if they do go down - to another efl club

Think the Utd pair are for emergencies only. lose a couple more players then we might see them.
Oyedele, looked good on Saturday when came on.
Hulme went down a few times, will be surprised if plays on Tuesday. Big opportunity maybe for Linney

Not sure who got the assist for the 3rd, but the body movement to go clean through was class
