Frank sidebottom end
« on: July 28, 2010, 11:03:56 AM »

After the memorial I mentioned this on to Facebook to the organisers

I thought of the idea of naming one stand after the man

Possibly the golf road end ?

Just wondered if anyone agreed

I'd think that was not appropriate, and would ultimately question "why"...? Are things like this not reserved for those who have demonstrated an oustanding or very much appreciated commitment to the club in whatever form.

Is there not already a draw of some sort to have the Golf Road End Named after you.

No disrespect to Frank Sidebottom but I think that naming any part of the ground in his 'honour' would expose us to ridicule on an Olympic level from some of our less culturally aware adversaries

I quite liked some of his sketches/songs, but he did nowhere near enough for the club to merit a stand being named after him. There are a load of volunteers ahead in the pecking order for starters...

If we were going to name a stand after anyone I think Mr Jackie Swindells would be at the head of that particular queue!

Not to mention Carole Nash & Family, Geoff Goodwin and many others who actually put money in the coffers

I believe they are working on a statue of Frank to be erected in Timperley, a much more fitting tribute.

I wouldnt be surprised if his family want to do something with the club in future, such as a match/matchball sponsorship or similar in Frank/Chris's name.

Agree with whats been said, there is a long list of other names that would merit being considered for a stand first.

We should put a massive papier mache head on top of the telecommunications tower at the Golf Road end.
That would serve as both a tribute and a landmark for visiting fans to head towards!!

It will surprise me................not saying it won't or shouldn't happen, just that I will be surprised

I think Mr Heathcote deserves a shout, maybe on retirement name the whole ground after him, 100% on and off the pitch a legend wether you agree with his ideas thats another story.
