Bryan leaves and we sign another defender
« on: November 13, 2009, 04:04:24 PM »

From the official site:

ONE IN, ONE OUT

Altrincham FC announce the signing of 20 year-old defender Andrew Owens, formerly of Stafford Rangers. Andrew is the son of a famous ex-Alty player, John Owens. As the son of a well-known father he joins Shaun Densmore, son of Peter, in the Alty squad. Andrew will take up sqaud number 27 which has been vacated by Antonio Bryan. The former Manchester United youngster has departed after making one start for the Robins.

I have to admit I'm slightly bemused at signing a defender when our midfield/attacking options look so weak.

Did Bryan leave, or did we get rid of him? I'm not too sure...

However, either way, we should be on the lookout for strikers! I can't see how we need another defender.

By the sounds it,Bryan has thought he is too good for this level, which I suppose a player who has been on Uniteds books should have that mentality. He looked good but needed fitness, was due to start Tuesday but rang up and said he was unavailable for the Cheshire Senior Cup against Witton  ::)

With Smith suspended, could be thinking bringing Owens in at the back and pushing Densmore forward back to his best position in right midfield, which I think we'd all like to see again

Or maybe GH is going to take another look at 343/352 again?  Shaun as a Right WB sounds tasty.

I hope he is as good as his old fella was for Alty - John Owens.

Have very strong memories of John Owens who was a superb player.

If it worked with Shaun, who is going to play for England after our game, then it could work for Andy.

Heres hoping

Hoping this works out in a densmore father son type way and not a royle or heathcote brother type way.

John owens was as classy a defneder as you'd ever see at this level...marvellous memories of a great player.

From John Laidlar's site: it says that Owens is "A centre-half or left-back," "with an eye for goal from set pieces," & "also appears to have a long throw in his armoury."

So we have cover at left back and a possible threat to & in the box.

Jezza,

I have to say that I think you are being grossly unfair in categorising Alan Heathcote with the abject Darren Royle.

Alan Heathcote once scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 win against Vics at The Drill Field and, therefore, is a genuine Alty legend in my eyes.

Just how many Alty players can match that...?
