Title: Guiseley March Thread
Post by: robininstockport on December 27, 2018, 09:53:14 AM
Wynne, Richmond and Song in for Thompson, Williams and Harrop. Hancock back in the 10 slot. Even 3 points won't undo the dreadful Christmas we're have but it would be a start. Believe they were shocking yesterday but not a good hunting ground for us.

Guiseley 0-1 Alty. Song

I agree with Wynne and Richman coming in. Not sure about Sang.

A win would be useful. Thinking of going, will be my first visit there.

Certainly need a response after a poor showing in the previous outing.

Fully agree with the above changes, Wynne has definitely earned the right to another go for me on the basis of a v good showing vs Stockport in the Trophy & given Hulme will presumably come straight back in on NYD then Sang for me warrants a start to judge him fairly. Guiseley got an absolute shoeing yesterday against a side we’ve beaten three times this season so let’s get at them and get that important first goal. Do that and we should win against a side who must be low on confidence.

My first game since Chester away so hoping for a similar performance and result. Looking forward to a few pre and post match round the A1 drinking circuit that is Leeds city centre.

Totally agree. Though Harrison could also come in for Jones.

The only way Jones doesn't start is if he's injured or when he signs for Wrexham

Great memories of a half-cut Alty side (after beating Emley on the thursday to win the unibond) looking at each other bewildered (or still pissed !!!) and Mick Carmody trying to rally the boys by shouting "is any f***er bothering today.

We lost 0-2 and nobody could give a donald.

Just had a look at the Guisely forum. They seem to be OK with taking a leathering by BPA because it was mostly their ex- players that delivered it. Onwards and upwards they say overlooking that we've beaten BPA three times this year. Should be an interesting match.

They looked half decent at our place, but they were in the middle of an eight match unbeaten run at the time. Their win at basement club Nuneaton last Saturday was their first in the league for eleven weeks. Yesterday says it didn't give them the required boost.

Despite our poor record at Nethermoor we really should be able to bring three points home, and give ourselves a fillip for New Year's Day.

In a shock move tomorrow I see it is actually possible to get the local service to and from Guiseley via Leeds. 1403 or 1433 out and the 1727 or 1757 back. Hallelujah.

Am coming to this. Seen Alty there before. It was a night game. Someone fouled Duncan Watmore and some local old timers got upset when a well known Alty fan called Guiseley 'A rich man's plaything'. Bovril spilt everywhere in indignation. Finished 1-1.

Was that the game where Hughesy wound up Walshaw who was off the bench and warming up ? "Eff off now, I'm bored with you" was the final put-down as I recall 😂

Frustrating to only draw...would have gone 3rd with a win but we really are conceding too many at the moment.
On the bright side 2 scored a fightback showing spirit.
Im hoping jordan's return will see the start of another long winning run.

Agree with this. Very important for us not to lose today and it was a lovely strike from Connor. Not sure why Parky left it so late to make a substitution though ? Chris Sang was a willing runner in the first half , although no goal threat at all, but was clearly knackered after 60 mins and contributed nothing for the final 30 mins. Surely Harrop deserved more than 2 mins.

A game we really should have won for me.

First half not many chances but the ones there were fell to us. Second half and we took the lead via a very controlled finish from Hemmings and that really should have been it. Sang had a great chance at 1-0 to make it safe but their GK (who tbf despite looking about 14 had an excellent game) made a good block. Their equaliser from the opposite end appeared to be just an unmarked near post header from a corner, nothing crafty about it at all, really unforgivable to let in a goal like that. After that Guiseley came into it and it developed into an open game and at 1-1 about 3 mins before they took the lead Hemmings slides in and crashes a shot off the bar, inevitably they go down the other end and despite a great initial block from TT the rebound is swept into the empty net. At that goal Guiseleys bench is on the pitch and they are going mental. Our equaliser was a brilliant composed finish by Hampson, he resists the temptation to smash it first time and cuts inside before placing a low angled shot across the GK. Both our goals were hit from the same place and into the same corner.

Overall though we were streets ahead of them and that was a game we really should have won. Hemmings was class today and should have had at least 2 goals but his feet are so quick and he’s a top player-my clear MOTM. About 150ish Alty in the crowd of 791 I’d say.

Don't know what was more embarrassing, conceding 2 or not scoring 5. They both basic and dreadful. Hemmings was both hero and villian, did loads of good work then should have converted another 2.

The FA Trophy experiment has ruined my Christmas.

Will be delighted to welcome Hulme back but White has been a big a miss

What do we have to do to win at Guiseley ? We were far the better side, but didn't make it count. Frustrated tonight.

How did Harrop get booked and their 5 didn't. And why did Bignot run on pitch when they went in front.

Karma on the Guiseley fan that walked past us at 2-1

Deserved more than a draw but we needed to tAke our chances. As others have said culmination of the woodwork and goalkeeper thwarted us today.

Defence needs to tighten up.

Onwards to the Stockport game. Hume returns and Wynne in goals please

I think Guiseley are probably the happier club after today's match. After a heavy home defeat, they wisely did replace their goalkeeper with a young, but very competent, loanee, and came close to winning the game against a team in the playoff positions, although that wouldn't have really reflected the play.

We certainly had the chances to win the game and, although Ashley Hemmings was guilty of the worst miss since Tom Peers at Blyth, he was once again our best player, and shouldn't detract from all his efforts.

I too would like to see Hulme and Wynne on Tuesday but I suspect we are much more likely to see the former.

Defend corners.

Improve our set pieces. Love JJ but keep him away from corner taking, awful.

And put Wynne in and sign another decent keeper.

I was wrong about White. We do miss him.

Still loving this team! Keep going boys.

I have to agree about the short corner routine. I’m struggling to remember a single time it has been successful, or anything meaningful coming from it. Hemmings crossed in a couple of good ones yesterday which looked a lot more threatening ....meanwhile the opposition yet again score with a header direct from a corner ...to add to the one at Stockport only a few days ago.

The boys must be acting on instructions...and whilst I generally applaud our style of playing and using the ball, there comes a time at any level when the ball needs to be chucked into the mix. Sort it out Phil!

No mention of hitting the bar on the goal line as of yet. Terrible miss.

But both goals showed something we've been missing the past few games. Shooting (Connors goal) and a mint deep low cross and hitting the box (hemmings)
