Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Diversity
« on: June 07, 2020, 07:25:49 PM »
With respect I feel that those making the call for visible diversity on the board may be overlooking the possibility that there might be current board members who carry hidden diversity in the form of disabilities, sexual preference or religion.

Oh dear, JJ's deal just changed from being "too good to turn down" to being "too good to be true"

Altrincham FC First Team / Is this a figment of my imagination?
« on: May 06, 2020, 05:29:44 PM »
I’m not sure if I imagined this or it was a dream or something.  I have lucid memories of my dad taking me to watch Alty play at the Drill Field back in the early to mid-seventies on a damp, cold and misty mid-week evening.  I think that it may have been an NPL Cup tie and it was around this time that Alty seemed to be jinxed every time they played Vics, losing by the odd goal or getting a draw if we were lucky.
Anyway, one of the things I remember is that during the game a diesel locomotive hauling about 30 empty coal wagons came to a halt on the railway viaduct behind the ground and it sat there with the pulsating sound of the idling engine filling the air for the best part of the game.  Additionally, every now and again the train would edge forward a little and the empty wagons would all clank very loudly in a domino effect jolting every wagon from the first wagon to the back one (for anyone interested the loco looked like a Class 25).
So, back to the game, and the pitch was in a dreadful state, there was barely a blade of grass to be seen, just lots of mud, but this seemed to suit Alty and we raced into a 3 or 4 goal lead before half time.  Even more goals came in the second half and we were about 6-1 up when we all noticed that we could still hear the loco but the train was now shrouded in a thick blanket of fog.  Inevitably the fog engulfed the ground, the train was heard to depart and the referee abandoned the game after about 75-80 minutes with Alty thrashing Vics about 8-1.
The game was replayed and Vics won 1-0.  Does anyone else remember this happening?

Great idea.

Where do I place a bid? and how do I see what everyone else has bid?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Match OFF - York City v Altrincham
« on: March 15, 2020, 01:02:51 PM »
I understand the reasons why the game was called off, but I am a tad disappointed with the way in which it was announced as emphatically ON only to be reversed a few hours later by which time I had already purchased rail tickets.  Following the "It's official - York game ON after league hold board meeting" announcement I thought it safe to make the purchase after waiting all week.  I now have to pay £20 cancellation fees but I guess it is better safe than sorry.

Altrincham FC First Team / Prolific Goalscorer
« on: March 15, 2020, 12:37:44 PM »
I see that Tunde Owolabi scored another hat-trick for FC United yesterday.  His haul this season so far is 31 goals scored all competitions.  One would think that he is being monitored by others higher up in the pyramid.  I think FC United's current lofty position in the NPL owes much to his performances this season.  He was just as good at Radcliffe last season.

Only have two problems with what the board has said:

2) Many of the (trouble-making) Chester fans come and go to Manchester Piccadilly via the Metrolink and that is also how many Alty fans get home so what will be done to combat this?

Why would they go to Manchester to get from/to Chester when there is a direct train from/to Chester calling at Alty every hour?  Manchester is in the opposite direction and adds to the journey considerably.

Or have I missed something?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Pitch
« on: March 04, 2020, 12:07:35 PM »
incidentally, the pitch as being used on Monday night for something, maybe a game/training. Anyone shed any light?

Academy trials took place on Monday evening.  My lad took part and in my honest opinion there was some good potential talent on display.  The pitch seemed fine although my son did remark that it was a little soft under foot Golf Road/Popular Side corner.

Everything has already been said that sums up our woeful performance.  If we are to entertain any idea of the playoffs we must do (very) much better than that essentially poor effort today.  The passing was terrible, we gifted them the ball so many times that I lost count, and not for the first game this season either.

Anyway  ...forgotten about it already.  We can (and will) bounce back on Tuesday.  COYR.

I have no doubt about his perceived value to our team as a player but I doubt I would ever be able to find myself liking him.  Anyway I would agree with Steve  ...do we really need him right now?

TT has been good all season but at fault for both goals. Shouldn't have been beaten over him like that.........twice......in the same game.

Agree with green.  Disagree with red.  Both their goals were flukey.  IMHO Tony has a real shout at being 'Player of the Season' if his form holds up.  Great save on Saturday from that volleyed shot.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Chester Fan on JJ's performance so far
« on: February 02, 2020, 05:38:00 PM »
"Running down blind alleys" does sound a lot like him. The accuracy of his crosses and the number of successful offensive plays to come from the amount of possession he was able to enjoy were not exactly high in the ratio; ultimately these comments from Chester fans do not surprise me.

I agree.  Someone else described him as somewhat of a luxury especially when we were not playing well which I also agree with on the whole.
