I think it is probably the best that I have ever done aside from a £13.50 ticket that I once got to fly from Manchester to Heathrow  (British Midland - Remember them?)

I have registered and bought a ticket. I have also managed to get hold of 3 x 1st Class return tickets from Crewe to London Euston for a total of £87.85 so I am going down on Friday evening and coming back on Sunday.  I am going to the game but 'er indoors' and my daughter are already in tourist mode and I suspect that this is going to cost me dearly. I have booked accommodation in Harrow-on-the-Hill,  just a few stops on the metropolitan line to Ruislip Station which it is only a 10 minute walk to the ground.

For anyone going by train to Euston on the day you can catch the Uxbridge branch of the metropolitan line from Euston Square (5 minutes walk from Euston Station). This should take you to Ruislip.

If anyone is interested I bought my rail tickets from

A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable game.  I thought that Nantwich looked more than half decent for their level and they deserved to score at least once if not more.  They were very unluckly with a number of good strikes, crosses and nice movements.  Alty looked, in my opinion, and for the first time in a while, like a team that might be capable of scoring goals.  Dare I say that normal service is about to be resumed?

Colclough was a class apart from anyone else again and I wouldn't be surprised if he is attracting attention very soon.  Ben Pringle is 100% a footballer and could do a job for us.  He looks match fit and ready for it.  He impressed me.  Dinanga also certainly made a good impression on me as he showed creative movement off the ball and he closed down their players effectively.

I'm glad that I went but the stormy downpour on the way home was no fun at all.

I went to Ashton and thought it was a comfortable enough performance but nothing special.  It seemed a little scrappy at times and I got the feeling that Alty were capable of much better.  Another missed penalty and several gilt edged chances allowed to go begging.  Colclough was the stand out player for me.

I worked alongside John at Terminal One, Manchester Airport for a number of years before we both retired.  He was absolutely obsessed with Alty and really loved the Club.  Come to think about it I don't think we ever spoke about anything else!

Farewell my old friend and RIP.

Peter Jones. Memories!
Probably the oldest looking Alty player I have seen (or was it because I was so young?)
Good player, not much pace but read the game well.

I remember that when I first caught sight of Lenny Dickenson's wizened looks for a moment I wondered why on earth Alty had signed Syd James.

I am 59, however, I have been forced to retire early due to ill health.  I was diagnosed with Parkinson's about 10 years ago and carried on working for as long as I could.  Although I consider my pension to be generous, under the circumstances, it is still considerably less than I would have received had I been able to complete 40 years service.  Thus, I am relatively poorly off compared to many others who are catergorised as pensioners but I do not qualify for the concessionary rate due to my tender age.  Would it not be fair to consider extending the concessionary rate to include disabled supporters?

Whist I am sounding off, I also feel that something needs to be done (I have no idea what) about the lack of legroom in 99% of the seating in the main stand.  As well as being painfully stiff in my legs, I am 6' 2'' tall and find it almost impossible to obtain a position in which to be comfortable.  I did initially manage to find a spot with a bit more legroom when I attended the final game of the season against Torquay but was moved on by Bill who told me that the seats myself and my 12 year old daughter had sat in were reserved for someone else.  We moved and I spent the game in some discomfort and now that I am not really fit enough to stand on the terraces anymore I have to decide whether or not I can continue to attend games.

The Family Stand offers some hope.  I have found that there is ample legroom there but, alas, whenever we play teams like Stockport and Chester, for example, the stand is given over to their supporters.

I would be interested to hear other peoples opinions and ideas and I am sorry to be a miserable old git.

Fair comments Condate, I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in one of the YouTube fan Q and A's that this season we would go with one of the template kits and then look for a more bespoke design going forward.

Now that you mention it I do remember the same being said.

If anyone wants a new Alty shirt sans sponsors endorsements It looks like they are currently available on Puma's website for £18.  It looks like the same shirt to me, and if it is, then it would appear that the 'new' shirt is just an off the shelf product and nothing too special to write home about.

See LIGA Men's striped Football Jersey.

However, I still like it and think that the decision to go with the Puma brand is essentially a good one.

Someone I know used to work at the UK Border and once did catch an Albanian who presented a falsified British passport.  He was detained and subsequently removed from the UK.  They were alerted to him initially because of the name on the document which was David Blunkett (the Home Secretary at the time).  A rare gift from a forger with a wicked sense of humour.

Another time whilst working on the non-EU desk a passenger approached his desk and presented what he immediately recognised to be a Polish (EU) passport.  Without any further ado my friend informed the passenger that he was in the wrong queue and was he not aware that Poland was in the European Union to which the passenger replied he certainly did know for sure.  The passenger's name when the passport was opened was Lech Walesa (former president of Poland). Oooops!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Jordan Hulme

Naturally I am disappointed that Jordan has left Alty for pastures new.  However, he has not jumped a sinking ship or anything like that, but has chosen now to move on whilst we are in a good place.  It has been a great adventure for the last three years and Jordan has undoubtedly been influential in bringing about our return to National League football.  He demonstrated his loyalty to the club when Chester FC came after him (on more than one occasion I think I might add) and he always gave 110% on the field of play showing the true grit and a determination needed to assist the team to win consistently, and in many games, impressively.  I certainly do not begrudge his decision to move on and I wish him all the very best.  I think his remark about Tom Peers is just a bit of banter and, anyway, I have been impressed with the way in which Tom gets himself into goal scoring positions and when he begins to find the net I think that he may become a prolific scorer.

So, the Alty adventure continues.  The club is greater than any one player and I am sure that if it were not for a non-disclosure agreement preventing so, most supporters would be satisfied to learn the fee that we have received for Jordan.  The money could be a life saver given the current state of affairs surrounding football and although I think that perhaps we should not be in any great hurry to spend it yet, it would be a real coup if we could use some of the money to offer Duncan a short term deal.  :)
