Altrincham FC First Team / The SOS fund

Is it possible to give an indication of how much has been raised so far? Would be interesting to see the level of interest this has stirred up.

The Altrincham team that played at Burscough that day badly let themselves down never mind the fans.  We were awful that day more than awful, hence why its a match thats always sticks in my mind.

We won the Burscough game 3-0. The crowd was subdued because we had been dumped out of the cup at Guiseley on the Saturday.

those protesters at Burscough

There was no "protest" at Burscough, something which you and GH have both incorrectly asserted in recent times. The crowd was just subdued - there is a massive difference and you ought to think before you make accusations like this.

Sir, you mentioned some time ago a "consensus" before Lewes that Heathcote should have until Christmas to turn it around.

For the record, I estimate about 20 forum users (at least) were callikng for change between Stevenage and Lewes. One person also said "you'll never hear the last of it if we lose to Lewes".     If on the other hand we go on a great run and are top half by January.

Looking back I think what most annoyed me is that we'd had to go through all this last season aswell. I just hope this doesn't happen next season. Whilst I have raised my expectations a bit, I am still delighted just to be in the Conference. We have only the 24th biggest crowds in non-league after all and probably less counting core support.

Ah, if only people had listened to Dino before Lewes - lets get right behind the team tommorrow,we can win this one. i would urge supporters not to get involved with heathcote, even if things go wrong

Poor little Hugh and his refusal to let things lie. Everyone else moved on 4 months ago, so please stop being boring and do the same.

Or will you just keep getting gassed and posting the same old sycophantic nonsense?

The bottom line is that a dangerous precedent was set by the Robinson saga and the Conference must now be seen to be acting with consistency. Their handling of these matters is quite clearly a joke and, as Ballers quite rightly stated, it's hardly the most difficult task to monitor a database of player registrations.

The difficulty is that, having made the wrong decision once, they must now do so for all other clubs in the same situation. For the record, I hope they review the way they deal with cases such as this and sooner rather than later because they are just showing themselves up as a bunch of amateurs.

Paul Ellender or  Ryan Shotton.

I truly can't believe this, it's completely and utterly wrong that they're being allowed to get away with it.

Altrincham FC First Team / Mansfield Predictions
« on: January 08, 2009, 01:33:41 PM »
Lawton and Denham are both fit for Saturday, as is Danylyk, which is great news. No Elam or Smtih though.

My expected lineup:

Coburn
Lane
McGregor
Young
Doughty
Densmore
Lawton
Danylyk
Peyton
Johnson
Little

Subs

Senior
Ralph
O'Neill
Meechan
Denham

Mansfield 2-1 Alty
                      Senior

Att: 1,784

I think they will be very solid, their home form belies their lowly position and I would be delighted with a point there.

All this talk of Crawley being short on funds is a load of arse then!

On the subject of putting things up in the bar:

Any chance we can replace the photos of bloody Aussie cricketers with inspirational Alty-related pictures which serve as a fitting tribute to our fantastic history? Perhaps a few photos from our games at Wembley and FA Cup matches against the likes of Spurs, Everton and Liverpool? Even more recent stuff such as the playoffs in 2005 would look a treat.

And our three points......

6, surely?

 ;)

I always thought Alan Zelem at Macc was pretty useless.

Memories of his reaction when Nigel Shaw tucked a penalty past him at the Moss Rose in an FA Cup tie during the 1990/91 season always raise a smile.....!

Peter Wragg: "If that was a penalty, the game's gone for me"

Interviewer: "What about the replay John, what do you think?"

Kingy: "I don't think there'll be any penalties in the replay"

Marvellous!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Fixture Pile up
« on: January 07, 2009, 08:27:20 PM »
season looks set to run into May at least it will if the Confrence want good quality football played and not a load of knackered players walking round footie pitches.

Yeah, you can just picture it can't you! After 6 games in a fortnight, Alty make the season-ending trip to Cambridge United. Somehow the fixture backlog has rendered all 22 players incapable of running, or even jogging. The game is almost literally a chess match, players walking as quickly as their tired limbs will allow. 20 minutes to go and they are dropping like flies - the pitch is strewn with the prostrate bodies of players who are physically unable to continue. How the conference chiefs now wish they had played on until June to allow these poor fellows to maintain full fitness.

If any club ever has a fixture backlog as bad as ours in April 1991 I will be more than surprised. However, as tired as those players were, they still managed a bit of running in the last few games.

Chorley's portly keeper in the 1997/98 season. I can't remember his name but Ecky kept calling him "PIG" whenever he touched the ball!  :D
