Just seen this on facebook - FC United offering fans to pay what they can afford/feel its worth - obviously with rigerously planning - ie for wages ect..

I think it's an absolutely ridiculous idea.

I reckon for every fan who would use this as an opportunity to support the club and make an extra donation there would be another 5 or more who would see it as a chance to freeload. A certain number would pledge a fair amount.

If the club wanted to offer discounts to fans on certain benefits who could not go otherwise then that would be a better option, but only on a game by game basis as circumstances change.

It alright doing stuff like that on a game to game basis but its a real gamble for season tickets.

They say that an average of £160 was pledged last year which is good.

Maybe it works if your fanbase has been with you from the start but I don;t think it would work at other clubs.

And there is no going back if it goes on its arse either..

It just means their crowds which are currently propped up by non attending season ticket holders, will swell to even bigger figures but still have the same 1400 actually turn up at games.Oddballs from ireland, norway and denmark will simply pay 20 quid for a season ticket just to feel part of it and never actually go and still be MUFC supporters.

Well, they did it last year and it seemed to work reasonably well.

I know they have a few tossers in their following, but overall I'm quite impressed with a lot of what FCUM have done. They've shown a radicalism sadly lacking in English football and society in general. Rather than just moan about the leeching owners, the ludicrous ticket prices, the constant shifting of games for telly etc etc etc, they actually did something about it and continue to introduce initiatives such as this one for the benefit of supporters.
