Central defender arrives on loan

CENTRAL DEFENDER ARRIVES ON LOAN

Altrincham's joint Press and Media Officer, John Edwards, writes "Neil Young has landed the central defender he needs to cover for Tom Hannigan's injury absence after signing highly-rated Jon Moran from Forest Green Rovers on a one-month loan.
A Crewe Academy product who shone for Nantwich, Cheshire-based Moran became Rovers manager Mark Cooper's first signing of the summer after accepting a two-year deal with the Vanarama National League club at the beginning of June. Sensing the chance for the versatile 19-year old (d.o.b. 20 June 1997) to gain valuable experience at The J.Davidson Stadium, while Hannigan recovers from a knee ligament injury, Cooper consented to a request from Alty opposite number Young for the loan deal to go through.

Moran can operate at right-back, as well as centre-half, and he arrives at Alty with a growing reputation as a strong, reliable defender with a bright future. He was a member of the Crewe under-18 side that took the eye a couple of years ago, when they included Arsenal's renowned youngsters on their list of scalps en route top the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

It is a timely breakthrough for Young, in his quest to bolster an injury-hit squad, with two games in quick succession this Bank Holiday weekend. A trip to Kidderminster on Monday follows Saturday's home game with Curzon Ashton, and Moran will be availavble for both".

Welcome to Alty.

Wouldn't say we were 'injury hit'

If the total number of players on the strength is 24 (which by my calculations it is as of now) the term 'injury-hit' could only really apply if more than six were out. Densmore, Hannigan, Hobson yes - Hasler-Cregg fit enough to play for the reserves in midweek apparently; have I missed at least two others (Metz would possibly be another one)? (I could have done as I'm not used to keeping up with this number of players & I am a bear of very little brain ...) Someone more 'in the know' please advise.
Good luck to the new lad, by the way.

Yes Mike, include Metz....awaiting confirmation of fitness from Burnley. Is Miller on the injured list ? If so, there's your six.

NY's interview implied that Miller wasn't fit for the Gainsborough game in that he says he hopes he (along with Metz) will be fit for Curzon.

I hope Moran is the short term answer, but hardly the experienced centre back JC needs to steady him a bit. Welcome to Alty Jon.

Who are all these people to whom you all refer?

I think you're making these names up.

Either that, or they are figments of your imagination as they have never been seen.

But they do take our monies.

On a separate note, I think we now have 6 strawberry blonde players.

Statistically 1 in every 7 people are strawberry blonde so with the size of our squad 6 is probably about right.

Shame Duncan isn't still here as we'd nearly have a ginger starting 11.

I wonder if NY would pick his starting 11 based on hair colour.

He might aswell give it a try as what he's doing at the moment doesn't work.

On second thoughts, swap them all for brown haired people. I've heard that they're better at football.

Worth a go?

To be fair to the lad, who no one has seen play yet, if a club like FGR a prepared to take a punt on him, he must be a reasonable prospect. He's also played at a lower level so must be fairly used to being roughed up a bit.
