Wonder if the club may use these last two home games, to give out some of the free tickets to kids, from that streaming promotion they did a few months ago?

Not the greatest of games and in the end thought the draw was probably the fairest result, though we could have well sneaked a win with those chances in the 2nd half not being taken. Notts County looked a pretty ordinary team with little creativity upfront and we dealt with them well. I also wondered, during the quiet parts of the game, whether Tesco realise we have two of their shopping trollies in the Popular Side....

Great earlier post about the building of the late 70's and early 80's team and comparing it to now. Remember the wobble towards the end of the 80/81 season, i think when JR got injured, the buying of Gary Hulme for a then record fee of i think around £5k and in the end winning the league from Kettering with a game to spare before the last game of the season  at home v Yeovil. Great shame that alot of that team were nearing the end of their careers at the same time and it was always going to tough for Tony Sanders to rebuild a team of a similar quality. Remember the stick he was getting towards the end from a few fans and always thought it a shame his managerial career at Alty ended that way.
As for now, someone has already mentioned one difference from back then is the number of subs allowed but also there is the difference in the use of loan players. Personally at times I've lost touch as to who is permanent and who is on loan, and it would be good to finish the season with a more stable starting 11, of players who should be with us next season and not end up having the same turnover of players we have had this season. Its petering out this season but can't see why we can't compete in this league next season, I don't think there are too many teams we should be afraid of.

Always hard to say whether or not there is harmony in the dressing room. In a way it wouldn't be a surprise if there wasn't a bit of an issue given the big turnover in players in the squad in the last 6 months and players getting use to each other. This is compared of course to a mostly settled squad for the previous 3 seasons where there always seemed to be a brilliant team spirit, though when you're mainly winning games that always helps.

Unfortunately if we are in Tier 2 by the time we play County, the game will have been postponed not only on Boxing Day but on at least one other date as well, meaning even more games to fit in before the end of the season. Bit disappointing the club hasn't put out a statement regarding the pitch and what can be done to mitigate the issues,  if anything,  this season.

Agree about the earlier point about Mark Simpson. Not the worst commentator, but think Brian Flynn is best being the main commentator and thought John Edwards did a good job as well
As for the game, think Chesterfield will count themselves unlucky to lose tonight, with the two TT saves in each half, didn't think it was a pen and the JH clearance against the bar. Overall didn't think there was a great deal between both teams. Thought we played some decent football at times, it was probably not a coincidence that it was the best weather so far for a home game, and interesting to see us continue to mix up our usual short passing game with long balls as well. Great to see us get the first home win and hopefully build on this at the weekend.

I'm pretty sure NLN/NLS is currently the highest level where you can drink on the terraces, though over the last year or so there has been the odd piece in the media about whether this should be relaxed for the NL and above.

Altrincham FC First Team / Tom Sawyer

After watching a great Alty performance, in convincingly beating a decent team like Spennymoor, I must congratulate whoever picks the post match music. To hear Tom Sawyer by Rush whilst departing the Golf Road, was an unexpected bonus.

Reading the article it doesn't look hopeful for tomorrow, even more so that given we are playing a team based over 150 miles away, any decision would probably err on the side of caution, if come tomorrow morning, the pitch is 50/50 playable.
Agree with the other post about the club giving details as to when the covers are being used, as given the amount of rain recently, logically you would think they would have been on for as much as possible ever since the Kettering game.
Extra disappointing as the crowd would probably have been comfortably above 1500, particularly as City are playing at 5.30 and Utd playing tomorrow, and of course, more than likely just half that on a Tuesday night.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Kettering Match Thread
« on: February 08, 2020, 05:51:15 PM »
I thought the ref had an ok game, though not sure what Jordan did to get booked. We do have alot of Alty fans who start having a go at the ref if an opposing player dares to touch an Alty player or if an Alty player hits the deck. They don't seem to realise that we do have a few players who look for free kicks too easily, Mahon you can see already, is one of those players.
Also in the second half when the ref let play go on when the linesman flagged for offside, the ref got a load of stick, when he was right. The linesman thought the Kettering no 7 was going to collect a pass when he was offside, but he left it for another Kettering player, who wasn't offside and so the linesman was wrong and the ref was right. A fair few Alty fans dont know the offside rule.
As for the game I thought a draw was a fair result. We improved 2nd half after a really poor 1st half, but I can't remember their keeper making a save. Thought they were not a bad team and really well organised at the back.
