I don't think Ollie is a bad keeper; but any other player would get respite. Dinanga, Osborne, Hulme, Linney if mistakes are made.

Time for Phil to perform a duty of care; bring in a 2nd GK and give Ollie the support he needs. Coming from Welsh Champions behind a top-quality defence,  he's being challenged for the first time in his adult career.

100% behind this sensible post.  My mind is cast back to Joe Corrigan in the early 1970s at City.  The boo boys were rewarded with the signing of Keith MacRae from Motherwell in 1973/74 who immediately took Joe's place in the first team.  MacRae cost City £100,000 which was a tidy sum at the time.

Suffice to say that Joe had been retained and developed behind the scenes and it was he, not MacRae, following his  return to the first team, who went on to become a City legend.

A bit off topic but Joe Corrigan was my absolute hero as a lad. I used to watch city a fair bit all those decades ago and he was an excellent keeper. Thanks for that bit of info. He was coaching until a dozen or so years ago.

This save by Joe Corrigan was considered to be one of the best saves ever and on a par with Gordon Banks' save against Pele in the 1970 world cup.

Now watch Ollie's penalty save against Wrexham in last seasons trophy and tell me that he doesn't have any talent.

I have moved my latest post continuing on the theme of Ollie and Joe Corrigan over to the 'Goalkeeper' thread.

It first appeared on clubs kits in 1992 or 1993

I had a pennant on my bedroom wall in 1974 that I bought with the Crest on it.  The legend that is Pete Carroll (RIP) also had one about the same time that he had removed the frilly bits from and managed to somehow stitch onto his scarf.

So, somewhere between 1937 and 1974 is the best that I can do for now giving a range of 49 to 86 years.

I'd love to know when we first started using the current crest. People talk as if it's been part of our heritage for decades but I'm not sure how true that is. Personally I would like to see us in time move to a new crest that is a specific Alty FC design rather than the fiddly and fusty one we have now.

http://www.civicheraldry.co.uk/cheshire_pre74.html

I think that this should answer your question. My own opinion of the Crest/COA (Coat of Arms) is that it lacks any modern day relevance and quite frankly, I think that it is somewhat unattractive and disappointing to the eye.  The heraldic creatures are particularly ugly looking. It wasn't even commissioned for the Club - we just nicked it and used it after it was granted to the as was then Altrincham Borough Council in 1937.

Altrincham Borough Council ceased to be in 1974 and the Crest/COA was retired.  Ironically our 1974/75 cup run heralded arguably the best period in the Club's history.  I wonder how many other Football clubs maintain a defunct local government Coat of Arms as such an important club icon.

Now then, The motto 'ALTRINCHAM EN AVANT' meaning  'ALTRINCHAM LEADS THE WAY' I would keep as it does still relate and would be an ideal nod to the past.

I would like to suggest that the Club goes for a new Club Crest and it would be good opportunity to engage with supporters and open a competition for designs and ideas. If a prototype design was adopted by this means a couple of season tickets would be a great prize.

More likely to be the Cod Couple!

That's how I remember them back in the 1970s NPL days.  Seemed to be always in the bottom three, and a guaranteed bagged 4 points for us virtually every season with the only variation being how many goals we would stuff past them.  I think we even managed to thrash them when Les Rigby was in charge of us (nice bloke but crap Manager).

Morecambe were dispatched in a similar manner and it upsets me every time I hear the results or see clips of these two from the EFL.

That would only work on a flat planet though, due to gravity being all but equal. In your theory and model your result MUST be a league and trophy double.

Hmmm...  and I thought that applying a Cosmological Constant to remove the gravitational issues could have been my greatest error?

I called in at the Railway Inn at Mobberley a few days ago and they have a fixture list, albeit the last one, on the notice board in the vault.

The nearby Chapel House used to be a favourite haunt of some Alty Directors in the 1970s/1980s but I see that it has gone now converted into a private dwelling.

I can explain that very easily.

You see that if you take into consideration the effects of quantum tunnelling underneath the Golf Road and the consequences of Hawking radiation around the edge of the centre circle and combine that with the movement of CCC relative to the speed of light you will see that we're going to win the league.
