Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stolen flag fundraiser
« on: December 21, 2022, 09:40:38 PM »
A Warrington Town supporter once hung a flag at the other end of the pop side. An Altrincham supporter asked for it to be moved as it was blocking his view, and was told by a steward words to the effect of that they weren't going to get involved as they did not want to stir things up. In the voluntary days I think. Incidentally what are we paying these agencies for now? If we are to be made to feel uncomfortable entering the ground and all the rest, one would hope that we would be getting certain minimum standards in return. I seem to remember one of our supporters pretty much going ballistic about apparent double standards over the rails thing at the Stockport friendly (and one of their supporters still complained on line about pernickety stewards afterwards). Please, let's get it as right as we can. I  don't like to criticise, but after all my mate was among the (voluntary) stewards who got criticised over the Witton/Woodley CSC debacle. We have a right to answers I think when we are paying good money for these people.

So they have rested players (though I think the other J Jones is a regular). Still, I can only see this ending one way.

So that's why it said "2 minutes gone" when I looked a few minutes back. Presumably not held up for crowd congestion?

That reminds me, technically our next 3 games are against F, F and Sc*nthorpe or  "Up At The Wrexham" (Fantasy Football League on the BBC (which is set to return according to the Sun so must be true)? "Hello I'm Dean Greygoose" too!).

Why did they need two different shades of pink? And was the "salmon" actually burnt salmon?

Should have won 5/6-0.

The 705 ATT is a much clearer representation of where our core support is at than the 2k+ average we achieved last season. Still a National League North level fanbase when it all boils down to a ticketed Tuesday night game.

For comparison, Dagenham and Redbridge got 463 against Uxbridge (from Middlesex) according to Football Web Pages, who don't currently give any other FAT 3rd round attendances for NL teams. And Scunny are winning 0-1.

A very one-sided game that in typical Alty style we failed to win convincingly.

One downside of the evening was the behaviour of some of our supporters - the bunch of kids behind the goal shouting relentless, tedious and crude abuse at the Curzon keeper can perhaps be forgiven due to their age. However, the blokes who nicked the Curzon flag at half time really should have a word with themselves. It’s a shame that the stewards didn’t seem interested when they were pointed out, despite the repeated PA announcements on the subject.
we pay a lot for these stewards now . I hope we are asking for a refund for incompetence

I’m sorry,
We all like a laugh, don’t you think the THIEF  that stole the flag just hand it back ?

I know you're older and rose tinted, but away fans should never have been allowed to stand and display flags in and amongst where Altrincham fans congregate.

Swap 1 club for many in the NL and FL and that'd have been a full on fight.

Not condoning the theft but let's question why they were stood amongst our most vocal fans with 4/5th of the ground tk stand

Telford fans also chose to remain in that corner for the entire match once. I don't know, but I assume some sets of fans just can't be bothered moving round like we do - and in contrast every single Wealdstone fan moved round in the unsegregated game. I think I'm also right in saying that no significant number of F.C. United or Manchester United (XI) supporters have moved round at half time on the occasions we have played them without segregation (which of course on one occasion at least saw bloodshed).

Once again I have to ask what was going on with stewarding. If it was me, I'd have had someone on hand to do something about it if, say, a flag was nicked with the way things were last night. Maybe it's just me, but I wonder if having segregation for almost every game breeds this sort of behaviour and encourages a more confrontational attitude towards opposition supporters? I used to go to the Drill Field and Moss Rose without segregation - have things really changed that much since then? Segregation has been dropped in other sports, and I repeat I would like it to end in all football matches. For me, it's a form of discrimination and a self-defeating surrender to bad behaviour.

Drax trains now!

I'm sure  there was talk some years ago of building one or two new stations on the Skelton to Stockport stretch, including in Baguley to link up with the metrolink. I suppose it's one of those projects that has gone by the board, like the reopening of the Carrington line, or the Western airport link from Mobberley/Ashley.

If they got the station, and trains at least every half hour, Brooklands roundabout would be ok.

You are right. There was talk about a Baguley interchange with the Metrolink, along with some other stations, although I don't think it ever went beyond talk that it would be a good idea, which it is.

As for Solihull, Birmingham/Solihull Bees actually have their own ground at Portway nowadays out in the countryside south of  Birmingham, which they share with Midlands Hurricanes RL.

A passenger route going through near on ten miles of heavily populated area without an intermediary station is a nonsense, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was unique in England - though to be fair the line might have closed by now if it wasn't for the freight.

Still, someone on here once suggested he had that potential. I certainly remember him looking pretty good in a match against Arsenal before his injury problems started, and when you look at some of the players who make the squad in some of these friendly matches, he can't have been that far off. At any rate, he must be the nearest to a full England player to previously have played for Alty for quite a long time (though to be fair, Shotton didn't let too many people down as part of a  very solid Stoke defence under Tony Pugilist).

Scored earlier than usual. Is he starting games now? Or have Boro got players out injured? How much was his sell-on clause worth again (if it had been triggered)? And could he really have played for the full England team without the injury setbacks?

I don't see whynot as long as it's somewhere sensible (somewhere near Brooklands roundabout has been mooted in the past), it doesn't seem to have done Wigan any harm Whether we'd want to become a club like Wigan is another matter, but if we ever have ambitions to go much beyond the 4th division, it may be the only way.

Thought they finished fourth?

Yes I think you're right. They had been third for so long before missing out at the end!

Which F. C. are you referring to? (sorry to appear dense!)

F.C. Halifax Town who finished third last season, as opposed to Halifax "2.5p in the pound" Town F.C. I balk somewhat at calling them "Halifax" or "Halifax Town" as if nothing happened, especially as the effective theft of the former HTFC resulted in Graham Heathcote being castigated for three successive "relegations" - they were nothing of the sort, and certainly not in this case where HTFC spent money they apparently hadn't got on a player Altrincham might have signed. I also balk at calling the new co. club "F.C. Halifax Town", or putting "F.C." or "A.F.C." at the start of club names in general, a gimmick pioneered, I understand, by A.F.C. Bournemouth so that their fixtures would appear at the top of lists in alphabetical order, but the A.F.C. bit is generally ignored now.

That Colclough free-kick against Dorking has to be a goal of the season contender, probably not many at this level who would score from so far out to the left. A pity so many people already in the CSH missed it.

Let's face it, the best we've managed at this level since the Maunders bombshell is 12th to 14th, so to go above that really would be breeaking new ground in this era of our history, and in a mostly full-time league, so I've got to be happy with 14th. Moreover, we are now 24 points in our last 14v matches after the perhaps predictably slow start. If we carry on like this, we can finish top half and maybe even challenge for the play-offs next season. |Hopefully we can match what F.C. did last season eventually.

Altrincham FC First Team / Any chance the Maidenhead match will be on?

Looking at the forecast for Tuesday with a maximum predicted temperature of one degree Celsius (about 34 degrees), I would expect it to be well below freezing by ten p.m. and even cloud cover would seem unlikely to save us. Should I write this one off?
