To be fair, Brian did allude to it ("disappointment at the end"), but would anything have actually been gained going into that? Maybe they both just decide it best to let sleeping dogs lie. And with four points against FC and 12th in the table, I'm not complaining too much.

Ah yes, a bit like Bradford (Park Avenue) - who should really be called "Bradford (Park Avenue (Now Cemetery Road (Mind The Cricket Balls!)))F.C."!  :)

I suppose they haven't confirmed for certain what a "yeltz" is at Halesowen? Then again, my native Aberdeen couldn't say for certain why they were the "Dons", last I heard. And as for the Grapplers! The mists of time...

Always good to have a moment of calm once we've all slept on it; the fact we're furious to come away from the Shay without three points, on New Years Day and on an absolute dog of a pitch, is testament to how far we've come. That said, there's nothing wrong with continuing to demand more - as I'm sure Parky does - and it's a nice position to be in that we're doing so well and yet there's still some very obvious areas of improvement.

Parky did get it wrong - he's not perfect, but the in-game management does seem to be his most glaring weakness of the lot, given we've been here before.

Chris Conn-Clarke was having a stinker from around 50-70; for the first equaliser, it wasn't too dissimilar to the Brad Jackson one at Torquay that he got absolutely slaughtered for. Although that's where the comparisons end; you leave CCC on the pitch for those moments of quality which are sadly well beyond Jackson's capability. He also looks to be carrying a bit too much weight in my opinion.

Halifax could end up in the playoffs - and they looked poor for large periods of both games because we made them look that way. I'm confident that the days of being 'Conferenced to Death' by outfits like Bromley are a thing of the past and that we can get back on track.

Ah, "dog of a pitch". Could Dinanga have been 100% sure that the ball would not hit a divot and deflect wide? That the defender running back wouldn't stop it? And was he really off-side? Did he even have time to think about all this, and is he perhaps a bit rusty with his relative lack of game time recently? Here's the video anyway. Stop it at about 5.33 and see what you think.

For all the points you mention, earlier in this same thread I mentioned that the game management from the touchline cheesed me off much more than the split second actions of Dinanga.

That said, all of your points would have been analysed by a better forward and the correct decision made. Alas, Dinanga is not one of those individuals. Could I be certain that Conor Jennings or Jordan Hulme would have acted differently? No, probably not - but then again, we need a better quality than all of them.

It looks like they're doing something about it anyway.

From what I remember, Atherton Collieries looked a decent enough side in that game going into their first season at NPL Premier. When you think that a few years back, they were the second team in Atherton (To Atherton Labernum Rovers, whatever a "labernum" is), it is remarkable what they achieved in getting to that level. After the inevitable rebuilding job his season, I hope that they can make a real go at getting a forward of the quality of Newby for a whole season in the next year or two. Before he left, we were looking like a team good enough to compete for a play-off, and the challenge now is to maintain that sort of quality over a whole season. FC Halifax have possibly managed it with former County man Warburton, and I assume they are not repeating the financial mistakes of the defunct Halifax Town, so hopefully we can manage it too.

Just wondering as I stuck to my guns in the end and didn't attend. I don't care what their excuses are, last season was unacceptable.

High sticking to his guns with something and turning out he was just making it worse for himself... Things that shouldn't surprise anyone.
Thought you were going to comment on something other than Hugh?
You're obsessed and need to ask yourself why you never comment on anything  but another person's posts. Do you actually support Alty? I've never met an Alty fan like you with your fixation. Seek help.

I think this might explain it:

Incidentally my dad and his three mates aren’t going to Moss Lane because they’ve been on this forum and now think the club is overrun by covidiots. Presumably there’s more people out there giving the games a miss for the same reason. Losing the club money when they desperately need it for repairs, all because some clowns that have been on YouTube for 20 mins suddenly think they’re doctors. Absolute trash.

Exactly why i've been responding to the posts from Hugh recently... it's been harmless bollocks until recently, but it's become out of control.

I'm just not going to stand for it to over run in to pure malicious mis information."

The thing is, he seems to genuinely believe I'm killing people whereas our people agree with me and think they're saving lives and defending freedom. The trouble is, it's very hard for us to just all be friends again and carry on as before after what's been happening. Some are angry about what's been imposed on us, others see those who object to it as a threat. That's what I'd like though, to put it behind us. Anyway, I only wanted to comment on Dinanga, not start a big row. Let's forget it.

You're right, I just checked - and then lost to AFC Wimbledon. Your post too printing the full debacle going back to 2001.

There's no reason why we can't give it a go this year if we keep on at this level (unbeaten in 8 now!). Here's hoping.

Play-offs would be fun but promotion isn't an option. All I want is to go in to next season with a solid nucleus of a team, rather than rebuilding again and having another disastrous start which seems to be the Parkinson/Sorvel way. Imaging where Altrincham FC would be int he table if they had started the way they are carrying on.

I seem to remember in 2010 or so we had to make the decision part way through the season if we were going to spend money on applying for promotion should we finish in the play-offs. Does it still work like this or do clubs automatically participate if they finish in the play-offs now?

I can see us getting even bigger crowds in a few years with further ground improvements and we could be in a really strong position to give the Football League a go.

Ah AA, good to have you back!

I take it you prefer not to say if it was you at the Barnet game? Never mind, maybe I'll  say hello anyway, always interesting to hear about Dutch football. How are you enjoying Amsterdam then (and Ajax Amsterdam?)?

Another great goal by CCC, what. Dark times indeed. At least you're on the right thread...

This is what I referred to. You may have missed it at the time. I hope you enjoyed your holiday!

As I say though, no pressure to be sociable if you don't want to be. Each to his  own...

Oh and just out of interest, which is it today - "Direnanga" or "why do you hate Dinanga?"?

After the worrying events of recent days, I feel I have to speak out again (or strictly speaking, write).  I see that at half time yesterday, we were level on points with a team in the playoffs. The playoffs! What is going on? We should be nowhere near the playoffs. Just imagine we somehow got promoted - no doubt there would be ground "improvements" - when some of us have got used to the ground the way it is and would feel terribly put out. We'd be having to play rabble like Rochdale and Bradford City. And there would be bigger crowds - there might even be more teenagers. Teenagers I ask you! And not just in the Golf Road End. No doubt they'd also be on the popular side with their ringading ding talk phones or whatever they're called. And maybe even in the main stand!

Yes, we were going for election in the 1980s, but the NL today is similar to the 4th division then. And there'd be no more matches against proper non-league teams like Maidenhead. And no more promotion and relegation battles every season - just look at what happened to Rochdale after 1974 - now you wouldn't want to end up like that would you? And even our participation in the reviled, I mean revered Cheshire Senior Cup might be threatened - time was when Football League teams didn't participate, and it could happen again! And then they go and play a proven goal-scorer up front. OK, he was proven in the National League South, and very briefly in the National League, but with good coaching and game time, who knows, he might start doing it at this level. Yes, there was the so-called excuse that the substitutes were brought on late, and that with only a draw, no real harm was done, but I tell you, they're playing with fire. No, the only solution is to sell Colclough and put an end to this nonsense for good and all!

See you're on nights again mate!
Er, bank holidays actually. Do these bankers actually do any work?

He's got to go. Never want to see a certain player in an Alty shirt again.
No arguments from me. blocked Byrne on their equaliser and I just don't know what to say about the other thing that happened.

Flip flopping again? By the sound of the celebrations, quite a lot of people thought he was onside, and the video seems to show why. Still, don't let facts get in the way...
