The power of the scarfe
« on: January 30, 2023, 12:44:39 AM »

Bumped into a chap in a shop in Paisley the other day - a scout (I didn't catch his name) - who recognised my scarf and said he was a friend of one of the Alty family: Nigel Bunce.

It is wonderful when Alty is recognised across the country; it is how I befriended a Scunny fan in Largs.

Of course, I do get accused of being a fan of teams from Sunderland to - embarrassingly - Aberdeen!

Anyone else had any of these great, random meetings?

I saw a couple who supported FC Halifax Town at a hotel in the lakes (in 2019?). They were alright to be fair and looked forward to possibly seeing us in the Conference in the futureif we got promoted. I also saw a Chester "City" supporter up Snowdon in 2020 who told me he hated Alty and was tired of losing to us, which was quite funny.(Incidentally, is it true about all the pubs in Paisley closing down at one point, similar to Partington?).

I saw a guy in Leeds wearing a Alty beanie and approached him all excited and he was having none of it. Just went 'oh right' and walked off 😂 must have just played for the youth team as a lad and wasn't actually a first team fan

I'm nit brave enough as an Englishman to go to pubs in Paisley (my annual pub visit is Costello's) but shops are closing at 2010s Alty rates.
I blame my daughter for liking Paisley, I just go for the stunning Hungarian lass who works in a cafe there!

Not quite the same thing but decades ago, this must be 1980/81/82 era I was going back to my car parked at Heathrow to find a very neat bit of graffiti on a pillar in the multi-storey car park. Etched beautifully was "ALTRINCHAM F.C.". It was a lovely welcome back!

I bumped into Kenny Pallin wearing his Alty scarf of course whilst working in Ashton-under-Lyne in the 90's. I asked him how he was & what he was doing, without a pause he said "sight seeing" then walked off.
To this day it still puzzles & amuses me.
