Shame it's not an away tie, the superb Beartown Brewery Tap in Congleton always worth a visit.

When will the Cheshire FA wise up and make this preseason?

Waste of time.

Wondered how long it would take for the first one of these

With a total of 22 entries it's too big for pre-season, I fear; and the County FA would never do it anyway.

Here's something. Isn't there a stupid rule that your starting 11 must include 7 that were in the squad for the last match, or something like that? If so, what are Crewe and Tranmere going to do?

It's a stupid competition, yet at the same time I do enjoy going to the early rounds. The things that really annoys me about it still is that it is classed as a 1st team competition by the Cheshire FA, but not the English FA, and that it must take precedence over league matches!!

I'm with Wayno on this and I'll turn up for the final only, possibly dragging one or both of the kids. Being a glory hunter of course.

I'm not the biggest fan of this competition unless we reach the final. I just hope we're able to field some of our youth players which will at least give them some good experience.

Considering we have a fairly small squad, how many of the 18 named players will actually feature?

My guess is that only Adam Reid and Sam Grimshaw will feature regularly in the competition, and we will essentially field an Under 19's team.

We can't do that. It has to be something sort of resembling a first team. Having a squad of 18 though means that we could, if we wanted, I suppose name the non regular starters, all but two of whom, at the most will have been part of the first team squad even sat on the bench.

We got into some bother when we played so many Youth teamers in the Final a couple of years ago

According to Competition rules each team are supposed to field their strongest side in the Cheshire Senior Cup. Obviously this rule rarely gets applied these days.

You've got to field your strongest side, but it still doesn't qualify as a first team competition when it comes to serving suspensions. You can't have it both ways and I find this rule ridiculous.

I assume it will be Tuesday November 6th following our thud and blunder derby at Droylsden, and before our FA Trophy campaign commences the next Saturday. I trust it will be segregated. I've heard terrifying reports of the Congleton Ultras............

Dont mention fkn segregation - you will put ideas into the stewards minds - next thing they will be segregation on Tue and Thurs at training sessions  >:(

Two Northwichs and two Runcorns - how the hell are we supposed to have rivalries when our rivals are cloning like amoebas!

What a stupid system! Byes/Exemptions should be based upon a clubs position in the pyramid rather than luck of being drawn out a bag.

A much better format would give the nine teams from the Blue Square North or higher a bye to the next round, along with last years winner (Nantwich).

Those 10 teams (bolded below) would join the 6 winners of the preliminary round ties (ie. teams from the Evostick and below), in the draw for the round of 16.

1    ALSAGER TOWN
2    ALTRINCHAM
3    CAMMELL LAIRD
4    CHEADLE TOWN
5    CHESTER FC
6    CONGLETON TOWN
7    CREWE ALEXANDRA
8    HYDE UNITED
9    MACCLESFIELD TOWN
10   NANTWICH TOWN
11   NORTHWICH VICTORIA
12   NORTHWICH VILLA
13   RUNCORN LINNETS
14   RUNCORN TOWN
15   STALYBRIDGE CELTIC
16   STOCKPORT COUNTY
17   TRANMERE ROVERS
18   VAUXHALL MOTORS
19   WARRINGTON TOWN
20   WINSFORD UNITED
21   WITTON ALBION
22   STOCKPORT SPORTS

As it stands, former league clubs Macclesfield and Stockport are playing a tie in the preliminary round whereas tinpot sides like Stockport Sport and Northwich Victoria receive byes.
