Non Altrincham FC Talk / Re: Sounds a right mess in Wales.
« on: December 28, 2021, 10:41:51 PM »
With crowd limits of 50, Welsh rugby wants to know what they are supposed to do about lower league matches on council land where anyone can turn up, should they end up with rather more than 50 people there, like once happened with Packet House.
I suppose it'll be like in that 1942 film "One of Our Aircraft Is Missing" when they were only allowed 200 people at the match in occupied Holland and the German police demanded that 50 leave! Never mind, three weeks to flatten the curve...
It's very similar to the rules in England during part of last spring when spectators were not allowed at all at football, and other sporting events, at private grounds, but were allowed on public land  as there is nothing to stop them. I remember going to a game at Old Alts, as they play on a public recreation ground at Crossford Bridge, and elsewhere to other games.

I also went to a Welsh Cup game in the summer at Ruabon Rovers on a public ground when 220 were there, but only 100 were  then permitted, but it was on open public land.  No problem, nothing happened. Although you and I might disagree with Boris Johnson and Mark Drakeford, they are not actually Nazis!

Maybe we can't afford new players due to the fact the club are now having to pay for stewards SIA from an outside agency since #Grassgate

Odd statement considering we have just paid an "undisclosed fee" for a new player.

I am a little bit worried we could gradually, gently slip down the table, getting the odd brave draw here and there, and suddenly find ourselves 21st in the final week of the season. There is plenty of time yet, but we surely have to start with a striker, from somewhere, sooner or later.

Thats how we went last down.

Yes, that's what worries me. In both 2000 and 2016 we had a dreadful end to the season following a decent start.

we'll end up with a (late) Desmond.
Full marks for topicality!  I can certainly see that score happening too.

I was suspicious too about Wrexham's  game being called off when capacity was down to 50, but it's not just the big clubs. Boreham Wood, the smallest club in the  division, are also off on the 26th following positive tests among their players.

I can't see the game on the 28th being on, or questions would have to be asked. Agree it would be good to see the rules or protocols for postponements put forward in public,

I'd say it's because Tom still has bags of potential... I'm not sure I'd say that for Dinanga.

Tom Peers is actually older than Marcus Dinanga. Having said that, I was very surprised to see him go out on loan rather than Dinanga.

I assume we must be bringing somebody in, but hopefully he will bounce back again from a successful loan spell. Ashton-under-Lyne in the winter might be less inspiring than New Orleans in the summer though.

The new project got off to a flying start on Saturday as Bedford lost 6-1 to Sileby Rangers!

Another strange this about is that Bedford are not even the leading team in Bedford; that's Bedford Town who play next door.

When I went to school 1,316 per 100,000 equalled 1.316%. Perhaps I should surrender my Maths O Level.

Sorry, you're right! I looked at the figures several times too. Good job you quit at O'level. I've got A level  :)

I'm out by a factor of ten so if it doubles every 2.5 days 1.3, 2.6, 5.2, 10.4 it will take another 10 days or so to get to where I thought it was. Lets call it two weeks.

At that point 1 in 8 people on average will be positive.  How big is the squad?

By which time we may know more about how Ill people get with omicron. The scientists are good at that.

Yes, big hope is it won't affect many badly. Until that is proven we are stuck with the cautious approach of isolating if you've got it or if you haven't been vaccinated and you come into contact with someone who has it.

It's a personal choice but I wonder how many of the players haven't been vaccinated? One case could cause big ripples as I'm sure is the case elsewhere.

It doesn't exactly answer your question, but the EFL announced today that 25% of players do not intend to get vaccinated, although these were figures taken in November, so the recent growth in the Omicron variant may have affected this.

There do seem to be good grounds for hope that Omicron has little serious effect on the large majority of people who are infected, although that could still mean a sizeable number of people do suffer given its escalating growth.

Blyth in the FA Cup on a bitterly cold January day a few years back. We travelled up to ML from Shrewsbury and got on the fans coach. Bloody freezing afternoon.

Closely followed by Southend  a couple of weeks ago. I was still shivering and  I was in Bowdon before I started to warm up

I might have to rethink this, I went to a game at Blyth, the year escapes me, there was about 5" of snow in Newcastle but nothing on the coast but was it cold! In fact I remember the Alty fans behind the goal singing "It's Very Cold....Very Very Very Cold......"
I didn't think Ryhope was all that bad but the girl I took along seemed to think it was, she whinged non-stop for two hours. Never pleased are they?

Oh, yes, I remember an Easter Monday game at Blyth when the conditions were so bad travelling back that I thought it was worth calling my mother to say I had got back  okay, This may well have been 1998 when we drew 3-3?

Actually Hugh walking in the road when there is an accessible footpath is not legal
Under what law, please? The relevant section  I can see of the Highway Code states " Pavements (including any path along the side of a road) should be used if provided. Where possible, avoid being next to the kerb with your back to the traffic. If you have to step into the road, look both ways first. Always show due care and consideration for others."

There appear to be a lot of qualifications there, and it's sensible advice rather than the prohibition imposed to prevent walking on a motorway.  What's more, sometimes bad parking along Moss Lane can force pedestrians into walking along the road when the pavement is blocked.

It would be the York game for me, (I think only four FA Cup matches beat the weather that day) although I didn't go to that Tow Law match in the early eighties. I did attend our game there a few years later when it was merely  staged in  a gale and pouring with rain but not freezing.

The coldest I have ever been at a game was probably at Buxton  against Colwyn Bay when our game at Macclesfield was a late call off in the mid nineties. More or less for a joke, I phoned Buxton from a phonebox - "I assume the game is off," "No, it's still on." - so we set off over the Cat and Fiddle to  Silverlands for a game which, even if it should have started, should not have finished. Mark Dempsey, I think before he joined us, played in this match, but was substituted suffering from mild hypothermia.

Good posts by CRT Butty which summed up the game well.

The stewarding seemed perfectly polite and okay (not sure what to say about ATS's exoerience!), although the refereeing was poor.

Bromley managed the game very well once they took the lead, and I expect them to be up near the top of the table come the end of the season. We didn't play badly at all in the second half (quite the contrary) but still don't have  a target man who can be guaranteed to score goals, even though they show promise. I am sure everyone knows that.

1) How do you know the number of attendees unless you can control sales on the gate?

I'm hoping for a good game on Saturday just to take everyone's minds off this crap.

1) That's why I think it's capacity, not actual gate. You sell xxx tickets and nobody needs to bring anything, but sell xxx +1 and everyone needs to be contacted and told they need to bring some proof with them. I don't really know, I just assumed it would have to be based on capacity.

2) Yes please.

Beer time.

The answers do indicate the uncertainty of this benighted idea, which was down to a panicked Boris Johnson trying to secure his position, regardless of the consequences. Possibly, as most of Meadow Lane will be closed when we visit Notts County, the capacity will be reduced so it won't apply anyway, but who knows?

For what it's worth. some have compared the new regulations to what already applies in Wales. I went to a Cymru Premier game rather than to Adershot on Saturday, but everything at the match, although Cefn Druids were really not very good at all, and in the pub and on the train beforehand, were just like normal.

What's wrong with a lunch time kick off, everyone can get there AND get home.

7.30pm is simply a joke

Nottingham Police couldn't cope with two sets of fans, one lot leaving the ground as another set are making for the neighbouring stadium. If County are playing on Tuesday, it looks like this is as good as it gets unfortunately.

Didn't Everton play at Goodison Park the same day we played at Anfield?

Very different times.

They did, and Manchester United and Manchester City were both at home at the same time too. As you say, different times,
