Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Stockport - Match Thread

We dominated for the first half hour, passed the ball well and it was a shame that Andy White couldn’t score with only the keeper to beat. If that went in I think we’d be in the hat for the first round. In the second half we never really looked like scoring and in cup games when it’s tight you have to stay in the game and not give away such soft goals. We are definitely conceding too many goals and we need to work out why.
Thought Sean Williams and Connor Hampson were superb.

Having used the main website for a couple of months now I have to say its a regressive step. Its all style over substance. It was only thanks to John Laidlers Alty Files that I got the information about Callum Harris signing and the fact that Lloyd Bannister had now left the club.

. Time after time when we attacked they had two banks of 4 in position within seconds and they closed us down. We never did that.

Its a good point and I believe its because we are too slow when building attacks. Too often the centre backs split, the ball is passed too slowly along the back line, by this stage the opposition are set up in position, they press, our centre backs understandably become uncomfortable on the ball and its hoofed forward and lost. Ive enjoyed watching Parky's team, but I think its time we made some suitable changes to mix our play up and keep the opposition guessing.

Totally agree with the comment about the full backs bombing on creating space , without Connor at LB or Dens RB we don’t have this option in games. Apart from Max Harrop we were dreadful today. No movement off the ball, too predictable in possesson and worryingly no response when we fell behind. Comfortably beaten today. We are obviously missing key players , but there are some that aren’t up to it at this level.

Can someone order a cab for Daniels. Pathetic footballer.

Took far too long to make the sub. We clearly needed a change earlier.

Missed Hancock, only had Hulme in and around the 6 yard box. Sat too deep and didn't get enough players forward and into the box.

Terrible positioning for attacking set pieces. Some decent balls in but no-one in the 6 yard area.

White didn't do bad but we miss Hampson making runs on the left.

Dale seems lively but needs to improve on his first touch. Reminds me of Elliot Newby. I think he'll do well.

Bloody change the way we shoot each half. At least give it a go as we are not getting the results.

I agree with most of that. We weren’t quite good enough to deserve the 3 points. Once we have everybody back fit and settled we’ll be ok. Daniels was very disapointing, it was like playing with 10 men before he went off. For whatever reason it’s not worked out for him at Alty. Hopefully that’s the last we see of him.

We need to build on yesterday's performance,  and it would seem to be a good time to play Guiseley,  who haven't pulled up too many trees so far.

JJ is almost certainly going to be out - anyone who watched him limp up the touchline after the game yesterday will be worrying further ahead than Monday. He's a big miss.

PP will probably put Daniels in his place (he takes a decent corner, though I'm otherwise unimpressed), but I would move Dale to the right and bring in Harrop on the left to give us the pace that JJ usually provides.

I take us to win 2-0.

Harrop actually came to the club as a left winger, it was only the injury crisis in central midfield that meant to he filled in and did really well. I too would like to see Harrop on a wing in place of JJ if he is injured.

Ben Harrison was sent off for the reserves today. Not sure what that's all about? I would argue that him and Tom should be our first choice pairing.

Poor display today.. Yes Jordon Hulme should control his temper, but in his defence he needs someone else up top with him. We should have two up top especially at home. For me it's time for a change in keepers. TT kicking is just not good enough at this level.
We also need an alternative system when plan A isn't working.
Over to you PP. I'm sure you will sort it.

Not convinced the lad from Port Vale is the answer. He spends more time on his arse than his feet.

Agreed. Today wasn’t good but I’m not sure it was abysmal either. No support up front for Hulme, plan B required when things aren’t working and a change of keeper. Tony’s kicking is rubbish and he looks far to heavy to be agile enough at this level.
Max Harrop was my MOM.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Daniels and Thompson
« on: August 15, 2018, 03:41:14 PM »
If we let Miller go to fit Daniels in then it was a mistake. In three games that I have watched he hasnt wanted it. He must be covered in grass burns from the amount of times he hits the deck. He would have been through first half, I can't stand players who dive.

I keep repeating myself and their winner did come from a break down in play and no closing down on our right but Thompson should have saved it. It wasn't far off centre. I didn't mention the Southport free kick as I keep hammering him but we need a new keeper. Sorry to say this but he will cost us points.

We looked shattered against a poor team. We missed Richman and Hancock big time. Hancock is massive for us, he see's smart passes and also scores.

I mentioned it last season but let's get back to shooting towards the away end second half.

Just watched the highlights of the winning goal. I agree with the above comment that TT should have saved it. Poor goalkeeping. After 4 games 9 conceded maybe we give Wynne a go, I’ve never been convinced with Thompson to be honest.

Great coverage from the RR team on Saturday. A quick question for Brian Flynn , when you were reading the full time scores from the National North League there was a song playing  in the background. Not sure if that was something that RR put in or whether it was being played at the ground. Question is what is the title of the song please ? I’ve not heard it since the late nineties as it used to be played at the end of every game at Moss Lane. Been searching for it for years !
Thanks

My son has also being trying to find this for years & it surfaced during the close season, via the club's twitter account on an online Greek Pirate Radio Station under the name 'Alty FC Official Theme'....the artist's name is 'Dogsounds':-

Saturday was the first time that this music was used on Radio Robins but it will be the closing music for the foreseeable future at the very least.

Great thanks Brain

It is full of gloss and no substance, but is promising. I still go back to the old site when I want to know something. Oh by the way I am not old. Bring back John while they finish the new site. It came out of the box to soon

I would agree with this. While I appreciate that the layout of Johns site needed updating, the new site doesn't carry anywhere near the information that JL's does.

Shame that he has gone because if he gets back to to his best he is an asset. I’ve not seen enough of Rokka yet to make a judgement on him. The main issue for me still remains the goalkeeping position. I don’t think TT is good enough to start as our number 1.

Sean Williams was criminally under used when he was here first time, he was the best player on the pitch when we played Warrington at Home. Super composed ball player and will be great addition for this league

I always felt he was under used too. As you say a composer footballer that can pick a pass , a good signing.

Twitter feed has suggested that 15 have signed up. So, not including the lads out on loan I would imagine the only player around the first team at the end of last season but not signing would be Sam Heathcote.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Sam, Lawrence and Sean Miller back at the start of the summer and play the first couple of friendlies in an attempt and win a contract though.
