Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Spennymoor Match Thread

As correctly commented above, the performances haven't been great for a while now. The passing last night was too slow and we weren't able to stretch their defence or turn any of their defenders, all the play was in front of them. Its a shame that the suspension of Jordan has also coincided with the dip in form of a number of players, notably Hampson, Harrop and JJ (all influential). We need to try and keep in in touch with the play-offs, get Jordan back and hope that James Poole can get fit for the run in. I think what the last few weeks have shown is that we have a very good starting 11 when everybody is fit, but lack squad depth.

I personally thought Tony was a weak link last season and was massively out of his depth this year. I also agree that he was shielded by a very good defence for the level we were playing at last season. Parky has sorted it, so fair play, even though I think he should have changed it weeks ago.

We need a couple of extra bodies in. I'd start Wynne and Harrison too.

Agreed. Harrison should have been in the team a couple of weeks ago for me.

Well apart from the opening 10 minutes where we looked pretty sharp, that was absolutely awful, probably the worst all round team performance I’ve seen under Parky. Not one player can come out of that with any credit. We lost the ball cheaply all game and the lack of reaction when the second and third goals went in was worrying. Every player had an off day and Josh Hancock, James Jones and Max Harrop were unusually poor. Unfortunately I’m used to the level of performance from Tony Thompson, he was absolute garbage.

The Chorley forum has got some very accurate accounts of yesterdays game.

Tony Thompson isn’t good enough, never has been and never will be in my opinion, though I don’t expect any change in keeper until next season at the very earliest.

Wynne in for Thompson and Harrop in for Matack. Id also consider bringing back Ben Harrison. James Jones has been good this season, but the way Parky plays with so much emphasis on the centre backs starting the attacking moves, Id like to see Harrison back in. His distribution is much better than Jones and he is also more comfortable on the ball.

Good post , agree with that. The Thompson situation is becoming a bit of a joke to be honest. I appreciate that Parky is wanting his team to play out from the back but we are over doing the sideways and backwards passes.

Frustrating to only draw...would have gone 3rd with a win but we really are conceding too many at the moment.
On the bright side 2 scored a fightback showing spirit.
Im hoping jordan's return will see the start of another long winning run.

Agree with this. Very important for us not to lose today and it was a lovely strike from Connor. Not sure why Parky left it so late to make a substitution though ? Chris Sang was a willing runner in the first half , although no goal threat at all, but was clearly knackered after 60 mins and contributed nothing for the final 30 mins. Surely Harrop deserved more than 2 mins.

Shame no post match interview yesterday. I'd have liked a few challenging question asked of the management team regarding team selection and prioritising of competitions.

A mixture of injuries and illness from what I was told. I dont think challenging questions are really required to be honest. We were slow to get going yesterday, but that was to be expected with the amount of changes. We actually had the better of the second half with 10 men and in the end could have nicked a draw.

I do. A poor showing in FA Cup and a poor showing in the troohy.

Very disappointing. Easy for older fans to write off the cup but not that easiest when all you've seen in Barnsley

We were actually very good for the first 30 mins of the FA Cup tie and had Andy White scored when clean through would have probably gone on and won the game. It was hardly like we were playing the Dog and Duck and went out. Having now listened to the interview, it is clear that Parky did rotate the squad, but with the Xmas period coming up I can fully understand that. Parky was totally open and honest with the decisions made and I 100% agree with him.

Totally controlled the game for the first 60 mins , dominating possession and disheartening their players. Some of them were visibly frustrated. The way we won the ball back at speed was impressive. We are in brilliant form at the moment, pleasure to watch Parkys alty these days.

Agreed with everything Phil said there. Made the point at the end about the fans and he was absolutely right, so good to hear the atmosphere coming back to Moss Lane home games. I always felt that the noise created by our fans behind the goal was one of the things that set us aside from so many other north west non league clubs.
