Someone replied saying they've signed one of the best goalscorers outside the league. A bit debatable really.

He may still do it, just didnt work at Alty. Sometimes players dont click at a club.

Ultimately he was not an Alty player and one that needed to be replaced.

Best for both parties.

Not sure he will do it even at that level Gillespie's biggest fault was his lack of effort and fitness not ability

Good luck to him, I hope dropping down a couple of levels helps his confidence and rescues his career. I'm not sure his problem was lack of effort really, I always thought he tried too hard to impress when he came on and just looked a bit desperate

I wouldn't be surprised if he still turned up somewhere as a top scorer.

Apparently he was great in training for us, but it just didn't happen when he got his chances in the team.

I wouldn't be surprised I'd be utterly amazed. The reason he looked good on Tuesdays and Thursday but sh*t on Saturdays is that there's no physical contact or anyone trying to tackle you in training.

And the precedent is below - regaining fitness in an Alty shirt at the back end of previous season

LANCASTER CITY (0) 2 ALTRINCHAM (0) 0

FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round Match,  played on Saturday, 27 September, 2003 at 3p.m.

SUMMARY:
In contrast to their performance at Southport last Tuesday and to their last FA Cup visit to the Giant Axe, Altrincham went out of the FA Cup in disappointing fashion at Lancaster City this afternoon. City had the better of a fairly undistinguished first half but took the lead after 67 minutes when Alty keeper Williams saved well from Sullivan but Hughes's stooping header at the back post despatched the rebound. It was former Alty man Sullivan who finished off Alty when he converted Hughes's pass, from close range (82 mins). Not even the return of Mark Maddox could alter the result

SCORERS
• 67 mins: Jamie HUGHES (Lancaster City 1 Altrincham 0)
• 82 mins: Tony SULLIVAN (Lancaster City 2 Altrincham 0)
