Just heard the BBC Radio 5 interview with the crawley chief executive before the derby cup match.
He talks a good clean game. Solid. Spend what we have got. Don't rely on cup runs. Living within our means. Like i say, he talked a good clean game.
And then...
Uber-T**t Steve Claridge chipped in with comments about Steve Evans having experience at the level with Boston United. Any mention of his corrupt practices? No. All airbrushed out of history. All seemingly smells of roses at Crawley.
Clean at Crawley? With Evans there the foul stench is all-pervading.
-
Its easy to 'spend what you have got" / 'live within means"when you have an endless pit of money ? I doubt if 'Live within means' means self sufficient ? Doubt the crowds would pay for 25% of the weekly wage ?
Also enjoyed this from www.altrinchamfc.com :
Evans said, 'We're seen as wealthy, but there are players where Bruce and Susan have said the deal was too rich. Some clubs talk as if they've hardly got a budget, but we're playing catch-up against Wrexham, Cambridge, Wimbledon. Last season we took cars to away games to save money. Some opponents arrived in a fancy Premier League-level coach. Every fifty pence gets explained here'.
That'll be 'part time' Altrincham then arriving in style

'Last season we took cars to away games to save money'
and a season or so ago they took cars cos the coach company got fed up of not being paid ::)
-
aha ... Good point. Forgot about that ;D ;D ;D
Football League in two seasons maximum, out of existance in 4... Enjoy while it lasts Crawley folk, looking forward to the "Does the town not want a football league club" ;D ;D
Only good thing is that them going up will keep a well supported club down so more money for us when they visit Moss Lane :)
-
Dont you just love it when "Fat Jock" Evans trys to be all fkn righteous.. He is on a fkn par with the likes of Jeffrey Archer and Jonathon Aitken. All 3 of them are lying deceitful, despicable Oxygen Thieves... I cannot fkn abide them.
-
Just noticed that Derby have equalised... Hope they go on to fkn batter them...
-
Bad news - Crawley 2-1 winners; injury time winner from Torres.
-
it's not as if they have beaten a top flight team away is it. Unlike the glorious
ALTRINCHAM FC
-
That shows how strong this league is, Outplayed Derby

no it shows that if u spend big building a squad of players made up of players who should be in the football league but haven taken a drop down to our level when the £££ signs flashed up in there eyes that you can win a one off match.
Torres came from wycombe because he really wanted to play in the non league ...

they should be top then surely....oh hang on.....duke this leagues standard overall is impressive, Crawley are good, even if we hate them

The fact of the matter is, crawley should have been closed down, they have no history and have bought their way to a chance of winning this league, you don't get anywhere without money in this sport nowadays, it's a shame, on paper were the biggest team in the non league because of our proud history, and thats the way it should be, you can't buy history. Graham Westly got it spot on after tonights game, there shouldn't be any difference in fitness because they are all professionals train everyday and most of their players have played in the top leagues, our league is a professional league, ex top tier sides like oxford have struggled in our league and the ex league sides such as mansfield, wrexham, york, luton will be with us for years. £275,000 on 1 player that is more then we spend on absolutely everything over the season (wages for players and staff travel absolutely everything) To be fair to their chairman he is a local lad who loves the club, he saved them, Goodwin did all he could for us, we simply need a rich investor from alrtincham, hale surrounding area who loves football if we want to be battling these big boys. But fellas what im basically saying is don't be jealous of this silly little club, they may get promoted they may even be in league 1 within 5 seasons but I tell you what the likes of Lawton, Coburn, Denham play for the Alty FC badge. The likes of Torres, Neilson, Brodie plays for ££££££££££££££££.
-
Doesn't every league have a team trying to buy success? I don't like it one bit that teams have sugerdaddys but I think weve got to accept that, brodie is a diving scumbag
-
I was quite impressed with Bruce Winfield's interview after the game....he came across very well, but the commentator's soundbite of the night for me was that "Crawley have paid more in transfer fees since the summer than all of the clubs in League 1 combined"!!
Staggering!

speechless.

Creepy Crawlies is the name of a soft play centre in Irvine - not sure I can go any more now (with Jennifer, obviously!)
-
They were a touch fortunate in my opinion. Survived a poorly taken penalty in the first 10 minutes, and then Tubbs should have gone for a two footed challenge (OK, it WAS on Robbie Savage which may be justifiable). Finally nicked it in stoppage time. Derby were below par.
They're capable of beating Torquay, and the money from the Cup run will go a long way to replenishing their "bottomless money pit". I'd normally be delighted for a club from our league achieving this, but somehow my enthusiasm is lacking this time.

lol, this is the part that confused me, evans mentions ambitious as there best asset but surely money should never be mistaken for this! If they go up they keep a big crowd pulling team down that's the only positive I can think of for us!
-
put a quid on for Crawley to win 2-1 so got a cheeky 12 quid from it :)
-
I just hope they go up - I can't be doing with them being in our league much longer.
At least Luton, Wrexham, Mansfield etc will know how much money it takes to 'buy' your way out of the league. Telling everyone you are a 'big' club doesn't work.

It's also a great play centre in York. I've got a free pass for my lot but even they are getting too old...
-
Play Torquay away in the next round so could well get through to rd 5
-
buggeration - them in round 5 would irritate me.

i liked this article in the Daily Telegraph - seems at least one journalist did a bit of research about Mr Evans and Crawley.

Notwithstanding the fact that Steve Evans is a convicted fraudster, this thread and anti-Crawley attitudes in general stinks of hypocrisy. People often post on here about the lack of external investment and yet when another clubs gets a hefty wedge to spend on transfers everyone is up in arms about the illegitimacy of the money. I for one would love a big money backer pumping money into the club, good luck to them I say.

To be fair Dan. I think the main reason people are criticising Crawley is down to the fact that Fat Evans is involved with Crawley and his history isnt the best when it comes to matters of finance.
If it was any other club then folks would probably wish them well..
Evans is the main reason I dont like Crawley and I have to say, if he were to ever become manager of Alty I would have to think long and hard if I would want to watch them with him in charge.

I like to think myself as reasonable sort of bloke. Evens is beyond what I can stomach though. To see that odious convict in the Footy League would be another nail in the respectablity of footy.
There are very few people I'd not invite into my house for a cuppa. Evans is one of them.

For a very reasonable fee, I'll not release your address to Jim Rushe......................or Colin Peake.

Anonymous backers don't get involved with Non-league clubs for no reason. Think about it. Where's the financial return? Where's the publicity? This WILL all go tits up. At that stage, people will end up being screwed out of money, whilst well-run clubs will have been denied success by Crawley and their overspending. It'll be incredibly harsh on Wimbledon if they miss out on promotion this year to Crawley, who later go into administration (AGAIN).
I would hate a backer pumping money into the club. First, it's unsustainable and dangerous. Second, it makes 'success' meaningless. If I was a billionaire, I could throw cash at Trafford FC year after year after year after year. Eventually I might win the Premier League. Is that something to be enjoyed or admired? Is it f**k. It's an idiot with no sense of fair play or competition going nuts and buying success. Not interested.

I agree with this mostly, but to be fair, the chairman of crawley at the moment is simply a local lad and a crawley fan, as far as i'm concerned he has every right to do what he seems is best for his club, as I don't think he's in the game for money, he's in the game for tho love of it.

Naive claptrap Alty Ian. Where was this millionaire boyhood fan a few years ago when they wanted to sell to someone to take to the next level, ended up selling to the majeeds. WHere's he been during all the times they've needed hm before?
Me personally, I'm not fussed by them. I've seen this before and won't cry for them when the fall comes. If I'm somehow wrong and it all works out perfectly for them then fair enough, everyone can throw money at it if they want, won't be any hatred from me, just a football club down south with money.
What I would say however is that I am not owed money by Crawley (in the sense that I once had to accept a cva payment rather than in full). If I had been cva'd as it were I'd feel very slighted by the ostentatiousness of it all at the minute. There are a number of business and individuals in that boat. Crawley should perhaps bear that in mind.
