Updates from the meeting
« on: May 15, 2008, 09:21:32 PM »

I have so far been told the following by someone who is at the meeting:

Young and Little have signed two year deals.
Terms also offered to Lane, Tinson, Lawton, Peyton, O'Neill, Senior and Coburn.
Aspinall released
Scott is the other player who has been offered a bit-part role but is still considering what to do.
GH said Tinno is first name on team sheet and will continue to be so next season.
The new away kit will now be yellow with royal blue trim.

I've only just got back in from work and me brothers, so not been able to get there in time. However, it's good to hear positive news, especially about Young.

First, before I get lynched, I'm not at the meeting because I'm mid-finals and haven't got a penny to my name so physically couldn't make it.

Great to hear we're offering actual contracts to people, certainly progress.  Shame it's not full time contracts though eh? ;).
Glad to see the outrage about the macc kit has worked.  Looking forward to buying my away kit as promised.
Not a big fan of the tinno decision, but the manager is always right. Right?

I've also had updates from the meeting, apparently GH has been insisting he is right to play negatively at home.  :S

Any photo's of the new away kit? I might buy one if it's not too hideous.

I have been told it's quite nice although I haven't seen it myself yet.

The away kit sounds a bit like Torquay's home shirt....

The club acted on the constant moaning for moanings sake thats been happening on here in recent weeks and change it, as it wasnt really that important as we only wear it about six times a year!

So what do we all think then?

Credit to the club for giving two year deals to Young and Little, this is a positive step.

I can understand why Tinno has been offered terms as he has been a rock at times, despite the fact he is a bit slower than he used to be. Not so sure about the first name on the teamsheet bit though.

Peyton is a very fit lad and one of the most committed players I have ever seen in an Alty shirt. I see him as more of a squad player myself, but whether that will happen remains to be seen. If Warren is going to remain a first team regular it does set alarm bells ringing slightly.

A special thank you to Aza for all the commitment and effort during his time at the club. It is the right time to move on now but his contributions should not be forgotten.

If Scotty does stay I assume this will be only on a pay as you play basis? If not we can ill afford to clog up the wage bill with bit-part players.

I don't know about Joe. Great guy and never lacking in effort. I'm not convinced he cuts it at this level but maybe he'll come good next season?

I just hope the new players we do manage to sign add some much needed quality. We have commitment and effort in abundance but what's really needed now is genuine quality.

These are just my initial thoughts but I'm sure those who were there can enlighten us further.

Re the lads we've kept on you can't really argue with most of them, what most people would have predicted, obviously it hinges to a large extent on who we manage to get in too though. What concerns me more is if he thinks it's right 'to play negatively at home'. The away games are bad enough for the southern exiles but I'd hate to think we serve a similar quality of football up at home. Surely our absolutely shocking home record last year convinced that a change of approach may be needed? Would be grateful to hear views of those who went on this particular point.

GH never said tactics were to play -ve at home.......tactics were set-out to try and compete with full time clubs (with better players) to win the game.

GH said Tinno is first name on team sheet and will continue to be so next season.
The new away kit will now be yellow with royal blue trim.

Predictable (and safe) signings so it all depends on who GH can attract.

So gaps/problems in the usual places:- left back, centre midfield and big target striker.

Some of the success stories of last season were the loan signings.

I presume that Ryan Shotton will not be available but what about giving his brother, Liam, a trial? He scored 6 from 10 appearnaces at Kidsgrove from when he signed in March. If he is half as good as his big brother then he must be worth a looksee?

I also presume that Liam King, James Jennings ,Tom Cahill, Tansey and Turnbull will not be interested because they are/were on full time contracts. Interestingly James only had one start in Maccs last five games.

So a big learning point from last season was the use of Loan signings and I expect that it will be a feature of the forthcoming season.
