To be fair the article doesn't say Altrincham town, it says Altrincham FC.
Also, highlight the web address that you want to copy in the search bar at the top, right click and then left click copy. Place the mouse cursor where you want to copy it to, right click again, then click paste. Simple enough once you know how.

TOM MARSHALL: A CLARIFICATION
Altrincham FC was shocked and saddened, yesterday, to read on the Daily Mirror website of the gaoling of former Altrincham central defender, Tom Marshall. At Birmingham Crown Court, Tom was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for his involvement with a drugs crime which took place before he joined The Robins.
The Mirror states that "Former Altrincham Town [sic] footballer Thomas Marshall was sentenced to two years and nine months after he was convicted of conspiracy to import and supply class B drugs, as well as criminal property offences. The court heard that Maybury [leader of the operation] began setting up a series of online websites, which purported to sell sports supplements such as protein and whey powder, in 2012. He started providing the drugs, some of which are legal in other European states, in 2013. In total he established five separate websites to sell illegal drugs, two of which he set up with Marshall".
It adds that "The court heard that Marshall, who had been best friends with Maybury at school, split from the group in December 2013 following an argument with him about money". Marshall joined Altrincham on 20 December 2013.
The Daily Mirror article says that Marshall was on bail whilst playing for Altrincham and implies that Tom was let go by Altrincham only after his conviction. In fact, Altrincham FC knew nothing of the court case or the bail arrangements and the player's release from Moss Lane came as numerous members of the 2015-16 squad were released, all for purely footballing reasons, by new manager Neil Young early this summer (2016). Tom had suffered an horrific injury early in 2015-16 season and did not play again that season.

2 years, 9 months for being ripped off by a so called mate after he promised him in on a scam which failed to deliver any money.
He must feel like a right idiot.

Pmsl.....probably a woosh moment there for some. Yes, alcohol, caffeine, painkillers, etc, etc....the socially acceptable side of drug taking.
-
Well at least that explains some of our recent performances.
-
No wonder he was so cheery

Yep - I use all of them thanks. Happy Days...

To think we were doing bucket collections for him whilst he was on bail for peddling drugs
I wonder if Kyle Perry and the rest a Stubblemelt knew as well?
-
Will I get a refund on my Stubblemelt tickets?
-
Well, I for one am sad that his life has ended up in this mess. I'm not in any way sympathetic about any drug related crime, and if he has broken the law then he must pay the price.
However, he was a fine player on his day and won the fans Player of the Year award. He also suffered an horrific injury which likely finished him with us, particularly in light of the Clubs statement that they were totally unaware of any charges against him.
Sad day all round.

2 years 9 months seems extreme for something so minor. Shame that

It's hardly minor in the grand scheme of things, especially when apparent profits from what he aided were £45k per month.

I think this might be my favourite thing ever posted on here.

They updated the article and corrected themselves after I read it late last night.
Thanks for the instructions, will give them a try next time I see something interesting!

I know of three players who have served time, but can't remember the name of the lad we had on day release that the press got all uppity about. The other one is of course Mark Ward. Any more? Can we name a Convicts Eleven?
-
Paul Edwards.
-
Cheers.
-
I can't imagine Andy Green never spent a night or two in the cells :-)
-
Peter Gick and Andy Gorton defo served time and I'd be very surprised if Leighton McGivern hasn't done a spell of porridge.
