boshell will play in final , management only had gentelemens agreement that he wouldnt play.
-
Have to try and keep the ball away from him then
-
We need to focus on what we're going to do, we've got no control over Guiseley. Let them do what they like, we can win this whether they've got Boshell or not.
On the day, anything can happen.
-

Well he's not being very gentlemanly then if he does break it and play, he was treated superbly by this football club, no honour.
-
Although Boshell clearly is a very good player we can't worry about him to the exclusion of everything or everybody else. Each team has a squad of sixteen and we need to take account of each and every one of the Guiseley Players
To listen to some folk on here you'd think he was a shoo in for the World Cup squad
-
In my opinion Danny Boshell was and is a superb midfielder.
However if he breaks an agreement that allowed him to further his career, whether it be gentlemans, signed or otherwise then he is a man of little honour and he should be ashamed of himself. I don't think any agreement would be enforceable under league rules or the like but both him and Guiseley should be sticking to it, as frustrating as that may be for them.

do we know if the agreement covered the play offs or not ?Or as they were nearer the bottom than the top when he went back to guiseley it probably wasnt mentioned ?

The agreement was Danny Boshell could not play against Altrincham in the league games at Moss lane and Nethermoor nothing was agreed regarding play offs maybe your Chairman and Manager must have thought we wouldn't get to them I think we was around fourth bottom when he left Altrincham.

thats what i thought so he wouldnt be breaking any agreement , how many do you think will travel over on sat?
-
Frankly I would have been amazed if any agreement between the clubs had covered play-off matches. Guiseley are entitled to pick whom they please - we should not concern ourselves with one player above the others at this stage; in this, as in many things, I am in agreement with ATS. The spirit the side showed yesterday was excellent but one or two will have to produce rather more by way of performance if we are to win - let's concentrate on our own players and hope they are all fit, ready and at their very best on Saturday. That's the way forward.
-
If it was a gentlemen's agreement then it wasn't written down and it certainly didn't specify the league game at Moss Lane as that had already happened by then!
The spirit of the agreement was that he wouldn't play against us when he would otherwise have been contracted to us. None of us know the precise words used in the conversation and I don't think we can judge Bosh or Guisely unless someone with FIRST HAND knowledge of the conversation chooses to make that public and I know that our club are too honourable to do that - I can't see us coming out and saying Bosh promised he wouldn't play and we are disappointed with his appearance etc
I'd hope he wouldn't play but I don't know if, given the chance, I'd be able to resist playing in a game of such importance to the club he supports, never mind the professional incentive of being in national league next year

Mike, I've said my piece on it and be assured my focus is very much on getting behind our lads.
If Reeves, Walshaw and Clee are firing on Saturday then it won't matter.
We can and will play better on Saturday then we did yesterday. I am sure of it.
-
Boshell walked out on his contract with Altrincham so why would we expect him to honour a gentleman's agreement? The guy deserves to be given stick on Saturday every time he goes near the ball.
-
I'm not spending all week on here debating the rights and wrongs of Boshell playing for Guiseley.
We just get on with the job.
-
Forget Bosh.
Let's just see what happens.
-
Boshell leaving looked bad because the midfield went missing in big matches however moult and richman were excellent in the 2 games against hednesford so more of the same
-
He's an irrelevance and if Simon Richman gets to him he won't be on the field long anyway. ;)

I dont think YOU thought that you would get to the plays-offs back in October. We did Bosh a favour letting him go and at the time it disrupted our plans for the season. Some gentleman if he now intends playing against us in order to really put the knife in our promotion plans, which we set out when he signed to play for us for the whole of this season.
-
Re Guiseley fans view that Boshell could not play in the league matches at Moss Lane or Nethermoor, can I just point out that he DID play at Moss Lane - for Alty. He came on as a sub replacing Nicky Clee with Alty already 4-1 up.
So if there was an agreement for him not to play at Moss Lane, it has to refer to the playoffs. Or else we are all making stuff up, or interpreting the situation on the bais of preference rather than fact
-
crikey , dont think he is that good , didnt rate him myself , on the day if we play to our full potential we can beat any one , cant wait for it .
-
This was the most predictable thread of the week.
It makes us sound like we're getting our excuses in early for when we lose on Saturday.
Richman and Moult, in the last 2 games, gave us more than he ever did so lets forget about him and to be honest can we delete this thread as it makes us look pathetic?
-

Agreed. I didn't see him play (he'd gone before I came back) but a few on here would have you believe he's the reincarnation of Platini, Bryan Robson, Maradona and Zidane, and that he beats teams on his own. We need to get over it, worrying about one player is pointless and counter-productive.
Instead, let's focus on Guiseley's loss in the playoffs 3 years running. That sort of record has to weigh on their minds - look at Jimmy White....
-
Fair post but jimmy white is not the best example of this in his 5 world finals he played against higher seeds who were expected to beat him
-
i think wally played in most of guiseleys playoff defeats , abit ironic if he makes it four !!!
-
Be more ironic if he scores the winner that gets us up
-

Its not a matter of how good he is Phil.
Personally I don't give a toss if he plays or not. He was treated well by Alltrincham FC & what would annoy me is (if its true) . if there was an agreement that he wouldn't play then it is a poor fkn showing from the people involved in Yorkshire. Having said that, there is precious little honour left in the game nowadays and having ballsed up there play off hopes over the last few seasons, Guisely will do anything to get promoted.
-
How do we know he is playing? where is the evidence ? .
-
To what extend gentlemens agreements should have in a (semi) professional game where there is money at stake?
Surely the club should have had an agreement in writing. If Bushell does have a blinder - the board/manager only have themselves to blame.

Really don't want to focus the week on one man but that's unfair. I don't know the details of the agreement but it I do know that it's in writing.
That said, when a player is released ( rather than loaned ) he is usually released so I think we did well to get any sort of agreement that he didn't play against us in the league game at least.
He is good but he isn't going to win the game on his own.
It's about us and what we do on Saturday.
-
Jesus, they've got a decent midfielder, so what? They finished 5th, they were bound to have a couple of decent players.
We've got the best forward line in the league by a mile, let's get over it and win the game 4-2!
I can't wait for Saturday, a cup final at home, there won't be many opportunities like this in any of our lifetimes as an Alty fan.
COME ON YOU RED N WHITE B@ST@RDS!!!
-
Hes a good passer but thats about it ,old and slow

If Boshell plays then neither he nor Guiseley have any class whatsoever..........in such a case with a gentleman's agreement (that was honoured) even for league games only it would show class for guiseley to recognise they wouldn't even be in the play offs without our actions.........whereas I am proud that my club has repeatedly shown such class and decency.....you could say we didn't really have much option other than keeping an unhappy player....but we released him in a no nonsense no hard feelings way and got on with it.
In the same vein we have the players to beat them...so lets beat 'em and in the words of jim bowen....eeeh shame lads....have a look at what you would have won.....
a few choruses of play for a big club, you used to play for a big club can I'm sure be expected.....
-
Simply put...
Arsed.
-
Not that it's important with less than a week to the game, but if the agreement was for league games (rather than a catch all 'competitive fixtures') the play offs ARE league games. If Guiseley want to interpret it in a way that entitles them to play Bosh then fair enough. The lasting effect beyond Saturday is that nobody will enter into an agreement with them unless it is independently witnessed and so legally enforceable.
-
It's not getting excuses in early at all, but put simply Bosh should not play. The play offs belong to this season, not next season. For what it's worth, I'm not sure he'll play anyway, he seemed like an honorable guy when with us.
-
If he does play do you think i will inspire our players more seeing as the 'gentlemans agreement' was broken?
-
Last time I checked there were eleven in a team. Gentlemans agreement or not we need to beat 11, and our focus cannot be on whether he plays or not in breach of an agreement.
Come on Alty.
-
Guiseley's forum makes it out that due to 'transfer terms' he isn't playing on Saturday.

Bower said: “Danny not being able to play is unfortunate, but at the time when we signed him, I suppose if they (Altrincham) said: ‘You can have him and you will get in the final of the play-offs, but he won’t be able to play’, we would have taken it."
I bet they would've too!

Hear Hear, that said, he was a contracted player, and a good one. This agreement may or could possibly be seen as have being in lieu of them paying a transfer fee. We can't afford to let quality players go for nothing, regardless of how their personal circumstances have changed, and this seemed an adequate solution to all parties

Good sense prevails, well done the Board.

no bosh and no brooksby , confirmed in yorkshire evening post.

Lee cannot, and won't, assume this makes Saturday any easier. Our mental approach and readiness for the game is the same regardless of who they put out. On the playing front this is a squad game so they'll have options - Lee will have the lads ready mentally and physically irrespective of who they name.
COME ON ALTY

Very good news shame for brooksby with injury but neither playing a bonus for us
-
You'd assume Potts and Holsgrove will come in for boshell and brooksby
-
So, just to confirm, all that stuff about Bosh and Guiseley having no class is now no longer the case ;D
-
I'd wait until we see the team sheets tomorrow, take nothing for granted...

Whilst it is a bonus that Brooksby and Boshell won't play, there are another 9 players on the pitch, including the best keeper in the league.
However, the game at their place earlier in the season, when they started picking up, we should had won. If we perform how we know we can, it is irrelevant who plays for the opposition. We will win. Let's make sure we do perform.

If we are only playing against the other 9 that will give us a massive advantage.

I saw Drench play many times for Southport and he is indeed a fine keeper, but i'd argue that the Harrogate keeper is the best in the league. Guiseley have a very, very good team, but losing both Bosh and Brooksby is a huge blow to them and so I think they may approach the game a bit more cautiously now. Of course we can win, but we desperately need our front 3 players to hit the ground running, especially Nicky who looked a bit out of sorts last week. I WOULD say that Danny Ellis is the best centre back in the league, so good luck to Wally and Reevesy - Nicky will be the key - no pressure lad!!!
-
Don't think Clee looked out of sorts one bit!

Do we know for sure that Drench is 100% fit to play ?

Just slightly damp at the moment!

I have to say the way Guiseley have accepted the Bosh situation does show a bit of class.....I think alty fans have also shown class by not celebrating the fact a key duo is out for them and acknowledging it is still 11 V 11 and will be a tough game.
makes a refereshing change going into a big game with a bit of mutual respect.

Always had respect for Altrincham and back in October when we were 4th from bottom I was hoping you would be in the play offs and go on to win promotion but how things change and you can guess who I want to win today but whatever the result let both set of supporters have a great day 45 minutes before we set off down the m62.
-
By far and away the best two footballing teams in the league will meet today. A safe journey to all those coming from Yorkshire, have a great day out, but not too great obviously. Let battle commence...

Dannys views on todays game. Rightly sounded flat. And stunned.

Both Danny and Mark Bower deserve absolute respect for being on the pitch to applaud our lads at the presentation ceremony. Here's wishing them well for next season.

That's class. I hope Bosh got a good reception (sure he did knowing Alty!)
