Come on Alty
-
Away again harrogate or portsmouth
-
sh*te Possibility of Portsmouth away that is hell of a trip
Possibility of been on TV though
-
Portsmouth I hope!
-
It would definitely be on telly if we were at home. Away is unlikely. Come on Harrogate - we'd get through against them. Can't see it though.
-
It's a delayd kick off power cut Harrogate

Harrogate vey good at home on that pitch

20.40 KO now it's going to be the middle of the night until the Player's and
Supporters get home.

The BBC Sport website has already written us off!
20:06
Altrincham awaits the winner
Harrogate v Portsmouth (20:40 GMT)
The prize for the winner tonight is a home tie against National League North side Altrincham.
Whoever gets through would have to feel confident of making it into round three when the big fish enter.

Pompey away would almost certainly be 1245 on a Sunday, amaaaaazing. Harrogate might stay at 3 on a Saturday but would be very tough on their plastic pitch. In short Pompey please. Another 12k from the TV & our share of the gate receipts from what would be a five figure gate. I imagine Pompey will have some cracking pubs too.

Just another incentive to win!

And if we got a replay, Portsmouth have to travel a fair trek midweek Vs Harrogate popping across from Yorkshire

Several outstanding pubs in the bit of Southsea nearest to Fratton. Loads of back street places in what is now a student quarter.
-
Don't want tonights' game to be Harrogate win or draw then
-
Fratton Park is a ten minute walk from my house! Just need Pompey to do their bit. Struggling at the moment by the sound of it.
-
It seems crazy praying that a team based on the South Coast and almost certain to beat us, is our next FA Cup match, but that's where we're at I'm afraid. Plastic Harrogate on a plastic pitch is simply unthinkable.
Anyway, Pompey ahead now.
-
It's Portsmouth!
-
Balls! Just realised my only wedding invite of the year is on 30th Nov! :-[
Hoping this gets moved to the Sunday - the match that is ;D
-
Fantastic! Is this our biggest single game since Tottenham away in ‘95?
Let’s hope tv don’t muck it up too much! Looking forward to it.
-
So if Pompey only get half their normal gate that's nearly 10,000 @£10 each
Altrincham could get £50,000 gate money???
-
Plenty of cheap hotels being a ferry port should it be moved to Sunday and people have to travel on Saturday. If you’re so minded there’s overnight coach travel from Manchester to both London to continue by train and Portsmouth if so minded

Yeah - for that one I was in a SPRADS pantomime, with several other Alty, all unable to go... ::)
-
Fantastic draw financially for the club, 45% of gate receipts, plus potential TV money.
Recent games have had 15-17,000 they charge between £16 junior to £24 adult so at £20 average thats around 300K x .45 = 135K.
This could transform our playing budget :o :o

We made 118K from that game

They got 8,000 at home last time they played at home in this round. It wouldn’t be the worst idea to agree to them charging a tenner or whatever to get the ground fuller
-
very doable for me both Saturday and Sunday by train either day and as i get free rail travel will try and convince the wife
-
How much has been made in the cup run so far ?Around 90k?
-
Because of the distance hopefully it is as it stands now on the fixure list
Saturday 3pm , anything else might mess up making a day off it
-
I always thought that match expenses for the host team was taken out first from the gate receipts then the remainder of the pot was shared 1/3 (home team, away team and the FA) maybe its different now?
Guess there will be TV rights as well.

We played at Preston a year or two after the last Spurs game, which is a similar draw to this one. Millwall at home also arguably a bigger occasion? But it's a corker definitely.

Think it’s a 50/50 split (minus expenses) up to the 3rd round and thereafter for non- league clubs. This is a good explanation:
http://financialfootballnews.com/fa-cup-prize-money-much-can-club-get/
It was published in Jan ‘18 so the prize money and TV money have changed but think gate receipts rules are still valid

Would have liked Kingstonians at home, but a better tie than Harrogate away I suppose.....Wonder if distance-wise we are entitled to an overnight stay ?

The players stayed overnight this weekend so I'd fully expect us to do so again. They deserve to, all about the experience for them as much as us. Buzzing for them.
-
Their forum is already dismissive of us, eg "should be a turkey shoot". However, Portsmouth are rather underachieving this season, and are in the lower half of League 1. Prior to putting 4 past Southend in their most recent league outing (and there IS a turkey shoot !) they'd only scored 16 goals in 14 games. We're perfectly capable of earning a replay. I hear the sound of ringing cash registers.....
-
Agree with above.
Watched them last night and aside from the 2 great goals they weren't great. One of the cbs looked dreadful.
I'm not writing this tie off
-
I've written us off in 3 of the previous 4 rounds and will continue to do so! Let's face it, our best chance is them underestimating us, resting key players or having a player or two sent off. It's very unlikely but yes, shocks do happen.
-
There are only four better ties for us than this:
Maldon and Tiptree (H)
Chichester (H)
Sunderland (A)
Boston (H)
If we're going to go out, I'd rather do it away at Pompey than stood on a terrace at League 2 Salford or Port Value so I can be home for tea.
They're FA Cup Winners, have played European football. Even I'm not being negative about this one.

Agree.......but I thought there was a distance for an away tie where the hotel bill tab was picked up by the gate money before the split between the two clubs

As a Pompey season ticket holder I agree 100% with this.
Pompey are not playing well this season. They lost their best two centre backs - one to long term injury, one to a premier league team - and are struggling in defence. Another CB went off injured last night and so did Tom Naylor who has been the best player in the team and captain. The reports are that they won't be out for long but if Naylor doesn't play it would be good for Alty.
They have struggled to break down teams who are solid and well-organised at the back and have been vulnerable to teams who can break quickly. Could suit Alty.
On the other hand don't expect Pompey's management to underestimate Alty. There is a lot of unrealistic expectation about everything on the fan forums. I wouldn't take much notice of anything said there.

Ah I see, interesting question!
-
FA rules state you'd need to set off before 8am to get to the ground 90 minutes before kick off, allowing a 45 minute stop along the way.
So whether we play Saturday at 3 or Sunday at 12.45 could be a factor.

Hi Mark,.. see my post below, the FA take 10% of gate receipts for all games and the remainder is split after (certain specified) expenses. So its effectively 45% to each club less expenses, which for a big club like Pompey will be quite high, travelling, officials, stewards etc
We could realistically get 75K or more from a 10,000 gate. As Pete said, if they went cheap and got 17,000 fans to come and watch the "turkey shoot" (last home game was about that) we might get even more money, plus TV money which for a live game is 75K per club.
This could transform our finances,.. ;D

What's the mobile signal like at FP mate?
Would I be able to put tweets out (match day updates) from the away end, do you reckon?

I wouldn’t have thought before all the replays are done with which would be a week on Wednesday. There was a large number of draws in R1, something like 15 replays to take place including the likes of Bromley, Wrexham & Sunderland, all of whom would have a fair chance of being on the TV. I would still proceed if trying to do some planning on the basis that we will probably play at 1245 on the Sunday.

Agreed they will probably do one all league game and the rest non league v league ,4 games on tv i think. If Bromley and Ipswich win their replays they will probably be on in my opinion as will Maldon and Solihull .It wouldnt surprise if Salford were on also replay win permitting,Stourbridge /Eastleigh v Crewe also in with a shout

I reckon they may choose Bromley/Bristol Rovers regardless because you'll have either non league hosting league or a west country derby given Plymouth are the opponents.

I agree with all of that, and add for rail passengers that trains are not going down the faster route from London via Guildford (this applies on Saturday, too). There are replacement buses, but the better bet is to take a train which goes a longer way round via Eastleigh. The route to the north and midlands via Reading is still open. Fratton station is very handy for the ground.
If anyone fancies making a longer weekend of it and coming back on Monday, the RMT have declared a strike on South Western Railway that day, along with nearly all of December!

I can usually connect but it can be slow. I don't tend to use twitter but I'm always trying to get live updates from the Alty website and I can generally do that. I'd expect it would be ok.
I think the coverage is ok but you have 20k people in a small area and most of them are using their phone in one way or another. There's probably limited bandwidth via the masts close to the ground.
One of the floodlight pylons acted as a mobile mast and that has just been moved to the far side of the car park - floodlights are now mounted on the stands - so not sure if that has affected coverage.
